As long as it bang-bang, and not "FUKING KA-BLAMM!" You should be as well-off as any other shooter. This isn't so much a group to run off the cliff with "Get home safe" and shit like that. You will find some extended pinky shooters, but they really do shoot and not just photograph stuff and polish it and put it back in the safe until the next photo session.

Champagne costs whatever the drinker can afford to pay.

A lot of people like the Expanse because they want the "M4Carbine" Marked Colt lower and then dump the upper. The upper doesn't seem to be consistent as they keep changing from real Colt upper parts to non-Colt. You never seem to know what you're going to get with the Expanse.

Basically this. That'd be all I want from it.

It's not worth it. Even the lower isn't normal Colt manufacturing quality, probably because it wasn't manufactured by Colt (though I can't prove that).

Interesting. I've never seen Colt Offer a 14.5" barrel in a complete gun before with a non-A2 FH.

I bought 2 Colt OEM1's a few months back for $690. I think that's the way to go for how Colt prices have come down at this point if you want to be sure you get a Colt upper.

• Will replace A2 Pistol Grip with Grey Powder Finish Genuine Colt (Cost to me $0)

• Will replace Waffle (Sub-Contractor) Stock with old school Genuine Colt

• Will have Collar Machined Off, so I may mount a Bayonet

• Will buy Square Forge Detachable Carry Handle at my leisure

Bottom Line:

• Will buy another, nex' time ole missus isn't looking...

P. S. You in P'cola?

A little fuzzy, but I get the idea. Looks like it's the same basic machining that mine has that isn't what all of my other 6920s look like. Not the end of the world when you know you're buying an Expanse, but a bit frustrating when you thought you were buying a 6920 lower.

Not P'cola, Jax. Although I was stationed at Whiting as both a student and then later as an IP.

I would have no problem going out and shooting the crap out of one of those, but it's unfortunate Colt took this route. Non-Colt parts mixed with Colt parts, assembled by other than Colt. That does not mean that it's necessarily of poor quality, but a lot of folks will not make the distinction between the Expanse line and the regular Colt product.

The Expanse for a lack of a better term is crap.

It's a Colt lower with a mish mash of parts bin extra for an upper. Reminds me of the Colt Competition Series.

Colt OEM1's and 2's are sub $700, which to me is the only way to go if you want a Colt.

Perhaps not if you want a 14.5"? LE6921 might be a better choice.

I've have a 6920 for about 20 years, only back then, the only Civilians who could legally own the whole carbine were Peace Officers.

So, I bought the AR6920DC, which was the Conversion Kit, i. e. Complete Upper & Manual, with the restricted mags stolen by CDNN.

That's what I've been getting at. It's not even a Colt lower. The last "Colt" lower I bought was apparently an Expanse take-off (based off of the parts and manufacturing). The manufacturing itself is not the standard Colt quality and I wouldn't be surprised if it was done by the TX/Colt Competition company.

The lower functions fine, but even fitment isn't the same. I'll shoot it until I die, but it was frustrating to figure out what I bought after it was too late.

Aha! The same element as the piston debate; you knew and bought anyway. Rolling the dice when the odds seem hard to beat, regardless of what others say is a human element! [:)]

When they first came out, I handled 2 or 3 of them as I was considering a purchase. The lowers seemed to be the same as my other M4Carbine Colt Lowers. I don't know if they've changed over the production run, like the uppers have. At the time, it was painfully obvious the upper was suspect. Markings, quality, crap handguards, ect.

Ended up passing until I could find OEM's in stock.

No, that's not what I'm saying. What I bought was advertised as a "M4 Carbine-marked lower," which at the time, wasn't coincident with an Expanse lower. I thought I was buying a new 6920 lower at the normal 6920 lower price point. When I got it, I noticed things were different, but I accepted the transfer. Then I did a little research and found it had all of the elements of an Expanse (machining and FCG, with a slight fitment issue) because, as UW just said, the productions runs aren't consistent. Not much I could do at that point, so i pressed on and started shooting it. But it was still annoying.
