I thought it was a scam email at first, but apparently photobucket has pulled the plug on hosting photos that are linked elsewhere, like here. WTF! Now they want you to buy the service, for $400 a month. Uh, no. It sucks because, like a lot of folks here, all my photos are hosted by them and are now not displayed.

What is 3rd Party Hosting?
Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.

Yup ... I spent the last three days downloading all my albums. Deleted my account today. Gave them a "bullet" list of reasons.

At your age if you were using MySpace, you have issues.

So many forums are trashed from this it's not funny. Greedy assholes will pay for this. I bet they are done.

Best part is if they just would have had a $20 yearly fee they could have made a killing. Now they will just fade away.

Fixed it for you.

Though the Geocities references made me feel nostalgic.

You're right sinner, I had a ton of info posted on other forums. Not anymore it seems.

Photobucket will be unknown in no time from this.

their holding your old image posts hostage. a $4 monthly fee would seam fair as web hosting can be found for that or less. At some point they have to charge, this was a bad move

Not sure what you guys are doing wrong. I pay $20 a year for 30 Gb of hosting and have posted any damn where I please.

I gave up using Photobucket several years ago and started using Flickr, as well. I've been very happy with the exception of two things:

1) Yahoo owns them and I can never remember my Yahoo u/p because I never use that email account.
2) I'm sure Yahoo will implode eventually, so hopefully Flickr stays viable, but there's a chance it may go through some issues eventually.

Flickr now no longer loads on my .mil computer at work, but admittedly, this is a minor issue.

I'm transferring pics off PB to Imgur. It's a slog.

This has literally broke the internet. Google images now is not much above useless, so many things pull up fuzzy.

...and then not all all when you follow it to wherever it was posted. 🙄

FWIW, I've been paying for an account on SmugMug for several years and it's been worth it for me. It's my digital archive for my family photos and lets me share my firearms pictures in such a way that people can easily make their way to my personal/family photos simply by applying some simple logic to the URL. SmugMug was really designed for professional photographers, so for those of you who are really into photography it recommend giving it a look. I think the base version is around $50/yr. I pay a bit more for video storage.

PB is ripe for a boy-out. If played right, there's more value in it than it's worth at the moment. And the PR of the saving company would be big. "The company that saved the internet."

Yet it must be quick before half he users delete their accounts not like I did last night.
