It's been a split decision on these. I like the B&W because 1. It's me lol, and 2. I think it's a Cold War look. Others though are digging on the color.

Just filled out a Form 1 for this, so I'm putting it in the NFA thread.

Was going to do a forged Mega Lower, but already had a 10.5" Mega Billet Upper built up as well as plans for a 12.5" on a Rifle Length MML.

This is my latest creation. It's about as Noveske as one can get without buying a complete rifle from them. I've had this barrel sitting around since 2012, so i guess it's about time i built something with it.

Full parts list: Noveske Gen 1 lower, Noveske forged upper, Noveske 12.5" CHF barrel, Noveske 11" NSR, Noveske phospate BCG, Noveske QD end plate, Noveske marked Troy BUIS, Noveske marked Gunfighter charging handle, AAC 51T Blackout, BCM receiver extension/H2 buffer/action spring, BAD-EPS, BAD-CASS safety, Geissele SSA trigger, Magpul CTR stock, Magpul MIAD grip, Magpul enhanced trigger guard, Aimpoint T-1 riding on an ADM mount, and Colt parts finish out the LPK.

Thank you! I haven't shot it yet, but i don't expect it to be too much different from my BCM 11.5" and DD 10.3" uppers. Both of those feed and function reliably with anything i've fed them so far (running H2 buffers in those as well). I will say this thing is crazy light, feels like it'll handle quite nicely when i get to put some rounds down range. [:D]

Not only am i a Noveske whore, i'm also a BCM whore. The SBR'd lower is a BCM4 that came complete from Bravo Company. I changed the grip to a Magpul MOE, and installed a Geissele G2S trigger, BAD-CASS selector, BCM QD end plate, H2 buffer, and B5 SOPMOD stock. The upper is a BCM with an 11.5" cold hammer forged barrel, a KAC M4 RAS and accessories, a BCM BCG, and BCM rear carry handle sight. Although technically it's an inch too long to be a true Mk18 Mod 0 clone, i'm debating getting an LMT rear sight and Aimpoint going for that look anyway. In the meantime, it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot as it is.

So what you're saying is... other than the KAC RAS, there is nothing about this that's remotely like a MK18 Mod 0? [BD]

Thanks Dave. Yea this is one of my favorites. The RA Mod 2 set is awesome and paired with the 7" force rail and MFT stock it's lightweight, smooth shooting and easy to shoulder. It's one those it just feels right when you shoulder it.

Took this shot for Alamo and UW. This is my 12.5" SBR with the AR performance barrel and 12" Rev rail from the T&E program. I dont think youll get an AAC can much closer. In fact his barrels use 5/8x24 threads regardless of caliber so this has the standard socket adapter the deep one will not work of course...

Guess you got to remove the rail to remove the can? Or can you get it something in to remove it.

Nah, I wouldn't do it if I had to remove the handguards. The 18T Spring Mount just twists on and off the mount.

Receivers are PSA (SBR lower with my company logo), Timney 4# trigger, CMMG 22lr bolt & collar, CMMG solid charger, Taccom 4" aluminum-sleeved tensioned stainless barrel, BAD-ASS ST 45 degree selector, Magpul CTR, UCWRG Grip 23, Spikes billet trigger guard, Trijicon RM07 on ADM mount, CMMG 9mm deflector with spring-loaded hinge, TACCOM rimfire reliability kit, Black Dog & CMMG magazines, custom carbon fibre handguard cut to length, Silencerco 22Sparrow Stainless monocore suppressor.

Pistol is a Walther PPK/S in 22lr with P22 threaded adapter and Silencerco 22Sparrow stainless.

What a fun pair on the range! The SBR is very quiet, as the 4" barrel leaves standard 22LR at sub-sonic velocities. I can easily shoot a rapid 4" group at 25 yards using the 6.5moa RMR offhand. Both guns are mostly reliable until they get gummed up after a couple hundred rounds. 22LR suppressed is super dirty.

The pistol is heavy for a .22, but it's built like a tank. The craftsmanship is outstanding, and the extra weight makes it very easy to shoot well. It's not a gun I'd want to carry but dang it's awesome on the range. The trigger is fantastic in single-action mode.

I've been wanting to share these for a long time. I finally got my basement back together after the Great Floods of 2015 in Colorado (we had more rain in May than we've ever had in recorded history) so I have been fiddling with guns again ... fun times!

I won't argue that at all. It was just a reconfig of parts as my original plan didn't work at all. Was curious how the scope would look on it. I think my reserves about it are what you mentioned. I had the eotech on here with the STR. I'd love to have a bobro or micro/SW setup.

The height over bore is way off but the rear eye relief looks set up well. A lot of people set the scopes way too far back on ARs

It's just a dry fit to see how things run. However This is the scope and mount I used on the T&E rifle and it worked well on it. I'm probably gonna go back with the eotech.

I was always told that the scope should line up roughly with the charging handle. Not behind it... but not way out in front of it either.

I'm just asking so that maybe I can learn a little something but what is the right way? Wouldn't the forwardness sort of depend on the type of optic and shooting style/type of shooting?

Let me try to explain it. Since it's an AR, with the optic mounted, eye relief needs to be measured from the charging handle forward in a similar fashion as the iron sights. This allows proper charging handle clearance and also allows the shooter proper position behind the rifle from cheek weld on back.

Here's a helpful illustration:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/DownSouthTAS/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsyx7v2uid.jpg

Also, height over bore is the distance between the center axis of the rifle bore and the middle of the scope objective lens. I try to keep mine as low as possible; a scope cap barely fits on my objective lens it's so low

Based on that information I could move my scope up about 1 or maybe 2 spaces. I only have 3 spaces available going forward. On mine right now the very back tip of the eye cup is about even with the charging handle.

I wonder what I would gain by moving it forward 1/2 inch or so...

I understand; sometimes you've got functional limitations but I try to be as close to "right" as I can. On one rifle, my ACOG mount is as far forward as it can get but the length has the rear lens only about 1/2" forward. But that model of ACOG (TA-11) has probably the most forgiving eye relief of any optic I've used.

I have the option to move mine forward... so I am just kind of wondering what is to be gained by doing it. Would I just be able to lean more into my shots or what?

The specs on my scope says it has a 4" eye relief so I technically could put it up some if it's worth it.

I mounted my scope where I did based off of google and internet advice. What THEY said was basically 'go back as far as you can without interfering with your charging handle'...

I am just curious if it will give me better body position or what.

It also depends on how you shoot your rifle. NTCH is one way, but not always THE way to shoot, depending on the optic. Some respected guys run their stock all the way out and advocate that. Personally, with my long arms, I find a happy medium for RDS, but for magnified optics, I'm more concerned about how it fits when prone, which for me, is the most "demanding" position for eye relief. I then adjust the stock based on what I need for other shooting positions (sitting, standing, etc).

Then there's the Elcan, which claims to have better relief than an ACOG, but I've found it to be no better when at 4x, which causes it to sit pretty far back with a 4 position stock at the first click...at least for me.

I understand NTCH isn't the only way to shoot a rifle but it's sort of how the AR/M16 series was designed. I don't touch my nose to it anymore but it's very close and as long as I've shot the rifle I'm fairly certain I get the same sight picture/cheek weld. If I have any doubts, I can always throw the index finger up there and verify I'm a fingertip width away. One reason I don't like the PRS stock is because the built in cheek pad forces you to set your gun up in one way only; there's no room for adjustment and even at the lowest setting you need some seriously high rings to see through a scope.

And there's no way possible for Elcan to claim that realistically given the different models of ACOG. It would be hard pressed to beat the -11 or -33 series.

gatordev
28 June 2015, 19:01
Yeah, like I said, I think there's a happy medium, and for magnified optics, I put my head in the same place you describe, or as best I can. I was just mentioning another method for Alamo, since he's concerned about the "right" way to mount the gun, and I'd argue there's lots more variables than just a one-size-fits-all spot.

And there's no way possible for Elcan to claim that realistically given the different models of ACOG. It would be hard pressed to beat the -11 or -33 series.

I mean the -01 and the -31, which are both 1.5". Elcan claims ~2.5", but it feels almost about as close as my TA-01NSN in order to not get scope shadow.

For sure. Tell me if you want to do it. I can possibly set you up. But iit will be BYONV. (Bring your own night vision) lol

There is no season on pigs. Any time day or night you can kill em in Texas and with any set up you want. Suppressors, night vision, thermal, what ever you got... The real trick to the helicopter thing is finding a place big and open enough to shoot like that. Central, South, and West Texas are the places to go.

Because it requires so much space the ranchers charge a serious premium for helicopter shooting.

Let me know though and I will see if I can hook you up.

Well i'll put it like this. The last time I shot with Slippers I used his quite a bit. Now I have one... It's very tight on the buffer tube. So tight in fact I thought I was gonna have to use some lube to get it on. It's of course heavier than the MFT stock but still throws up great and feels very solid. Feels like a Magpul should!

I haven't had any range time with it as I just got it today. Saying that, initial impressions are good and purchased it after reading the reviews from other members here that I trust. As others have stated I think it'll be a great range optic which is all I'm looking for.

I have the original Sparc and it has severed me well. I'd say you can't go wrong with either and if you're looking at the Sparc the advanced red dot is supposedly a bit nicer than the standard microdot.

Surprisingly both the PA and SPARC line of optics have surprised me with their ruggedness. Checkout the member submitted review section for PA optic reviews.

Yeah I see that. I guess 'CQB' can mean a number of things. Based on my research a 12.5" 5.56 SBR it should still be pretty effective out to 4 or 500 yards. That's still very good. The blackout with subs, not so far. I'm guessing about 200 yards for subsonic 300.

Uwone said he liked 1-4x on an SBR and I can see that working just fine in many cases. That said as far as my theoretical SBR ownership I am leaning towards a 1x RDS or something like that. Of course I am still learning, but I would think an SBR excels at helping clear rooms, ducking behind cars, getting in and out of vehicles or whatever. On the surface it seems like it would make the platform a lot more flexible (of course given that you are gonna do all that stuff).

I think an RDS is pretty standard fare but then Uwone went all contrarian on us [BD]

Based on my research a 12.5" 5.56 SBR it should still be pretty effective out to 4 or 500 yards.

There's a difference between capable and effective. Capable yes, effective not really. I'm sure there are plenty of people who have under perfect conditions done so, but I can guarantee you that given any real type of wind or external forces, they'll see they're accuracy drop greatly. And, at 4-500 they're accuracy is likely 2+MOA. there's a reason you don't see SBRs run in comps. That said, some people just prefer magnified optics because of the more exacting precision it affords.

gatordev
22 August 2015, 12:24
I'd be far less concerned about what's effective for others and figure out how you want to use the gun. My guess is the reason UWone likes a variable 1-4 is because of the job he does, where being able to recon a position far more than shoot at one, but still have the ability to be precise if needed AND be able to clear a room, if needed. But as a cop, there's far less shooting than observing (I hope, anyway).

If you want your SBR to run 'n gun in close, just get a RDS. There's no substitute. Want to extend it out to 200-300? Maybe look at a variable or a TA-31 style optic. But it really depends on how you want to use it.

The solution to all this is to have more than one SBR :)

23 August 2015, 09:30
I like the 1-4 because of my astigmatism which makes an RDS look like a blur I can still hit with them but not as precise as a 1-4 even only on 1 power

Ever since the ATF stopped approving SBR form 1s for WA residents, I've been on the hunt for a reasonably priced factory registered SBR to add to my safe. What i really wanted was a Colt 6933; something relatively cheap yet high quality that i could shoot the snot out of. The closest thing i could find in stock locally that wasn't priced north of $2k was a DD Mk18 in that heinous dog shit brown "milspec+" finish. If it were black, i might have jumped. But the thought of having to spend another couple hundred bucks to make the rifle not fugly, after paying the $200 tax and waiting 6 months for the stamp, made it a no go. I sent my dealer an email to see if they had any basic Gen 1 Noveske SBRs inbound, to which he replied no, but he could order it for me. Still, $1700 wasn't exactly cheap for a "basic" rifle, and i'd need to wait for the form 3 to come back before sending off my form 4. I asked him to let me think about it, and got an email back saying he had a police trade-in factory Colt SBR that he'd forgotten about, and that it's mine if i wanted it. Turns out it's a Colt 6933, just like i wanted! It's even got the standard .155 FCG pins! It's got a few scratches and dings in it (which i couldn't care less about), but is rock solid mechanically and looks like it was stored/carried in the trunk of a cruiser far more than it was shot. It comes complete with a JP hand guard and a functional Eotech (looks like a 512). The price? $750 with the Eotech! I'd call that a score in my book! While i wait for my stamp, i'll have plenty of time to think about what i want to do with the upper. Currently, i'm leaning toward putting it back the way Colt made it, with a carry handle sight and M4 hand guards (maybe a Knight's RAS). Anyway, here are the pics my dealer sent me of the rifle. I'm pleased as punch with this purchase and can't wait to get my hands on it!

Wow what a great score! The colt 6933 is one of only a few carbines I'd ever trust to replace our 6920 for HD use

I agree that it would look badass going back to Colt stock parts, but I'm a bit biased as the Commando is probably my favorite AR design of all time. I have a factory carry handle take off if you need one

I'm with you! I really dig the look of the Colt Commando, and would give a kidney to have an actual "Commando" roll marked lower with the happy switch. [BD]

As for the carry handle, thanks for the offer! I think i'll take you up on that! It'll be nice to have as many Colt parts as possible on this baby. Shoot me a PM and we can hash out the details.

I like the outward facing 5.56 rounds by the M4LE part of the stamp.

$750 with Eotech is awesome! If you don't want to keep it you could probably sell it and fund the stamp.

That's a hell of a deal. I would have bought it too lol

They use a filler in addition to the powder to make up for the low case volume so no flash detonation occurs.

One guy pulled a bunch of bullets who had the yellow grit but nothing like that filler was observed in the powder tray. Wonder if it changes color during the explosion?

Others have said the Gemtech 220s do it also. Remington 220 subs don't but are carbony-dirty.

I'd buy a single stage press & the basics and load my own with 208 A-max or 220 SMKs if I were you.

AA1680, IMR4198, Lil Gun, and H110 are popular

Thank you. I was looking for that info as I knew I read about it somewhere. Next time out I'm gonna try some Remi 220 subs.

I really dig the roll mark on this lower. It's probably my favorite post-'86 roll mark available on the civilian market. The outward facing 5.56 rounds definitely a nice touch. I'll probably keep the Eotech, as it'll get put to good use even if it's not kept on this rifle. And I still can't believe the deal I got. I get good deals here and there, but this one takes the cake lol.

Thanks, Jerry! I'm chomping at the bit waiting for this one. Feels like my first stamp all over again!

VooDoo, I like the look of that Cole Tac cover. I was thinking about a Just Rifles MAD or HAD (not sure which suits my needs better) but I like the straps versus the cords for tension.

I'm not so much worried about heat abatement but I do have a mirage issue especially with .308.

Always enjoy seeing new options

I just received the HAD. I would've went with the Cole-Tac but wasn't really aware it existed or didn't think about it. :(

Looks like the Cole Tac is my choice but deciding the model.

The Baby Python is for Mini/K cans so that's a no.

Then there's the Python/$60, the Metal Python/$63, the Summit/$67, and the Heavy Metal Python/$93.

The Heavy Metal Python is the only one warranties due to melting because of FA/mag dumps, however, the others are rated plenty high for my use, so the Heavy Metal is out.

I think the Python is out...it's the lightest but uses plastic buckles. I'm worried about them breaking over time/use/abuse.

That leaves the Summit: Metal buckles and non-Velcro adjustable straps.

-or-

The Metal Python: has metal buckles and Velcro straps.

I think I like the Metal Python: I think I'll be able to get it as firm/snug of a hold and will have fewer issues in that department....$5 cheaper doesn't hurt. I'm thinking Coyote Brown sleeve and Ranger Green straps

If anyone wants to weigh in on this, I'd appreciate it

:D That's a sweet stick, not aside from the fact it's ten times more expensive and better than mine and I'm plotting ways to unhome it. I am green, yes.

Is that a B5/LMT stock? Did you replace the stock DD, er.. stock? Those things are proof that interior decorators shouldn't be designing AR parts! [:D]
