I haven't had that experience, although I haven't shot mine suppressed extensively, it's just worked. Carb H buffer, carb spring, super gas block. I've run from 147 to 220 gr. and not had anything get weird.

All told, I'm about 3,600 rounds in and had a couple light strikes d/t sunken primers, and one crushed throat that never repeated. Between Magpul and DSG mil spec mags, the bolt (fathom) locks back every time.

That's flippin' awesome. What suppressor is that? Is it hearing safe in that length?

I've always wanted to build a proper suppressed pistol setup, but they all seem so ungainly with those super huge 9mm suppressors ...

AAC TiRant 9s. I'd say it's borderline hearing safe.... maybe when wet.

The dead air mount is wonderful. I don't have my sandman yet, but I do have their mount on my saker, which sees lots of full-auto use and is swapped between multiple rifles and calibers. Never gets stuck, always locks up tight, and gives me consistent point of impact shift on each gun.

It's not hard to be better than Butler Creek, but they're easy to procure and not at the Tennebreux level of pricing. That said, based on my crude measuring, I don't believe the ocular Vortex cap will fit that scope (cap ID is too big).

Definitely "-ish." But I've found the internet forgives such things if it's coated in a worn Krylon finish.

That said, pretty interesting to see how much (apparently) torque the light puts on the rail when using it as a push-point on a barricade today. The 416 today had none of the issues the ancient RAS rail did when trying to shoot through VTAC angles. A great learning experience.

I just really like shooting 10.3/10.5's with FSB's. Plus I think they look good with cans. Shot a duty carbine for years with a FSB, so I miss them when I'm shooting and don't see it through my aimpoint. Just a bombproof setup.

I have two cans in jail now. I bought them from a hotel room in China via the interweb. LOL!

I did it via the same way as before (the trust) because I am too lazy to do it any other way. The waiting is a real pain in the ass though.

I will just go ahead and get those two as soon as my money allows it. Griffin is supposed to be offering a new .22 can but they are being slow AF with it... I am in no hurry (for now) although a .45 can is actually looking pretty attractive. When my $$$ gets straightened out I will buy more cans since it takes so damn long. On the other hand I have a love hate relationship with pistol cans. I love em but they make the gun too long and awkward to handle.

My deal now is I need to get a crap load of suppressor hosts! LOL! 6.5 Creedmore is definitely coming but that ain't cheap for what I want, especially with the optics. I still have a .22LR built that has just been sitting forever. I also have a thing for CZ pistols. I like Sig too... but it's time to diversify.

You haven't used the right can/host.. lol.. Yes, they add length but that's just the way it is unless you get the maxim 9. I've never had any issues using my glock 19 and osprey 45. Which reminds me I need to call silencerco on my warlock II. Having serious issues with it and my M&P22c. Can off it's dead accurate by both me and another person who can shoot circles around me. Rainier got 2 FDE Mini's in. Grabbed one since I had not seen one in stock in forever.

At $899, surprised they still have one in stock

I ended up just going with a black one from AU. At $800, I figured I could live with a little spray paint after the fact.

I️ love it!! For the size it can’t be beat. Longer cans are quieter of course but for what it is the mini4 is awesome. I️ can still shoot without ear pro and everything about this rifle was built and bought with a purpose and job in mind. Be as short and functional as possible, while still getting cool guy points of course! The mini4 balances the weapon very well and I️ recommend it highly if someone is out looking for a “quiet” Short can. Former11B should jump on the mini wagon!! I️ have no regrets with my purchase!

Honestly, I'd drop the HK for my 12" Mini-Recce. One distance rifle, one red dot w/out the extra weight. But that HK certainly out-shoots the CQBR with it's factory barrel.

As 11B said, bottom one is a Colt 6920 cut down to 10.3" and Adco's gas port adjustment (I'm guessing somewhere around .070), plus the DD MK18 RIS rail. The rail is getting a bit dated, as it's heavier than it could be nowadays, but the receiver/rail interface is pretty bomb-proof. I just wish I could get the GL/SSC RIS II for my 12.5" carbine, and then I'd be set across all three lengths (10.3, 12.5, and 14.5). But alas....my unicorn.

Waiting on DSG and FedEx to deliver my XT-07 to go with a X300 that will go on the CQBR. For some reason it now takes 11 days to get from TX to FL. I really despise FedEx's Smartpost system more than UPSs, which isn't great either.

This actually brings up an honest question... Am I just seeing an exposure "issue" that's making it seem lighter (and therefore pristine)? My SOCOMs and my 212 are a nice shade of doo-doo brown and I don't beat them up with select-fire.

That photo was taken with an iPhone 7, it might have been over exposed. It's definitely not that bright. So far the coating on my SF cans have held up fine and don't look as used as some of the ones I've seen on line. But then again, I don't shoot my SF cans as much as some of my others.

I figured it was the picture. With the exception of an AEM 5, all my centerfire rifle shooting is with my SF cans, so they get cycled through the rotation and get exercised. And with my 212 being on a 10.3, it discolors. The finish itself holds up (other than scratches), but it does discolor.

I know your reason is you just have too much stuff to shoot all the time, but I see guys talking about extending the life of their cans and think, WTF? Is it really that limited of an item? Ti and inconel doesn't just wear down like mild steel. OTOH, if it's truly a consumable item, what are people "saving" their stuff for? You can't take it with ya!

Because the internet. There's lots of internet pics of cans showing wear (one of mine had a really nice swirl going after a few shots through a 3-prong...wear!). But if you take a step back, like you're saying, and also do some research, the cans still last a long time, even with wear. And if you buy the right can for your use (whatever that is), I'd argue it's even less of an issue. Lots of people like to bash the SF cans. And this isn't meant to get into a can debate, but for their weight, they last an extremely long time. And again, if you do your research and get the "right" can, you can even get them rebuilt for less than a new one.

But really, I'm probably just preaching to the choir, at this point. Or at least certain members of the choir.

I think it's just one of those things where it wasn't exactly cheap, it took a long time to get it, and there was hassle involved with all the paperwork. For the cost/effort you want it to last.

If suppressors weren't title 2 items there would be a huge selection of lower cost offerings because there would not be as much of a need to make it out of stellite, inconel or any other expensive materials for longevity. We would consider them disposable wear items, and if it was $150 for a new suppressor, nobody would blink an eye at getting a new one every 10,000 rounds if your local walmart, cabelas, or dicks had them.

Joelski
4 December 2017, 20:03
I can see that. But on my side of the coin, I did work hard to pay a lot of money (to me), plus waited what seems like forever to have fondling and polishing be it's biggest source of handling (not that I see that here, but YKWIM). I'm gonna shoot it as much as I can, and if it shows signs of pooping out, I figure it'll last til a new one comes in. That's not to say I'm not going to squirrel away another couple when funds permit. I guess to me, wear is a sign of enjoyment (I don't frivolously abuse expensive things). Ideally, all my stuff will die the same time I do. I sure wouldn't want something just to fondle; that'd be the sure way to get hit by a bus!

One day I’m getting a 40mm photo prop! [:D]

Mostly smoke, chalk and flare rounds. If you can find actual 40mm rounds, they're subject to a stamp on each round. No refunds once you fire them. [BD]

If I was a go-zillionaire (as per Forrest Gump) Id probably buy a couple dozen

The chalk is neat and the flares are A LOT of fun. They’ll still punch through stuff like billboards and windshields. I’ve shot a ton of them

As far as I know even chalks and smokes are a no go now for 40mm.

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/07/foghorn/atf-re-classifies-certain-flares-and-40mm-chalk-rounds-as-explosives-begins-confiscation/

And you need a certified and yearly tested storage container to store the grenades. IIRC That’s about 3k initially and $500-700 for yearly certs.

No, that article is incorrect. Chalk does not require a stamp for each round. It's treated just like normal ammunition.

300BLK coming together - 8.3” BA SS w/ 7.75 SLR Lite rail. Probably going with Omega 9K, but the Reece 7 do look sleek. May put the K can on the obese 9”. Comparison pic is with a 10.5” 5.56.

EDIT: 2nd pic won’t load, so no can joy today. At least I got one full sized. Been only teeny pics for a long while. I’ll give it one attempt in a seperate post.

If you're uploading directly, go to your profile, near the bottom of the page, you should see an index of uploaded photo files. Delete some older ones and you should be able to post more pics. It's a function of the software and each member gets so much space.

Nothing in photos under profile. I’m on an iPad so maybe page appears different. Only reference to photos is directly under about me. But found attachments storage in settings. Deleted a bunch to see if that makes a difference.

And... nope that did not do it. Arrrgh.

Did you create an "Album" that you are uploading to? I believe the limit is 60 photos per album, but you can have multiple albums [:D] Nice thing about the albums is that there is a copy/paste BB Code box under the photos for ease of posting. That seems easier than using attachments.

Jerry, Nothing in any albums. Just tried uploading to one and got:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 48000001 bytes) in /homepages/26/d164419092/htdocs/www.weaponevolution.com/forum/includes/class_image.php on line 2411

48Mb is a huge allocation. I upload some big photos, but all less than 2Mb. Unsure of the exact nature of the error though. In "properties" how large is the photo you are trying to upload?

Try to upload to an album then link to the photo. I think that is easier than a direct upload unless from a 3rd party hosting site.

Uffdaphil
14 April 2018, 15:37
No idea how big. Just what automatically goes to the photo library from my iPad or iPhone camera. I see no way to modify the size.

Here goes with an app called Camera+ which allows downsizing and auto-loading into Apple photo library.
Qick dirty pic because there are 14+ inches of snow on my deck! 8.3” pdw vs 9” with normal stock.

Jerry, how are you connecting that? Direct thread or booster? Pardon the ignorant question. I have no pistol cans (yet) and am not properly educated on the various methods for connecting them.

Any fixed barrel firearm does not need a booster.

The 22 can is a direct attach due to the fixed barrel. The only suppressors requiring a Nielsen Device are "tilt" barrels like the 1911 platform and others.

I want a 10.4" XM-8, dammit! I don't want to pay some insane fee to convert an SL-8, because the ghost of its ugliness would surely linger like shame after a night of coyote love.

Doesn't anybody know a good black market arms dealer that sells Malaysian Army surplus at conflict pricing!?! Dammit!

Dear ATF guy: j/k! [:D]

Finally sending my SL8 to Tommy for a G36C Conversion here soon. Since Tommybuilt has his own US made G36 receivers, I bet he can make some XM8's.

Never cared for the looks of the XM-8, but it would definitely be a novelty.
