I recently purchased a PSA 300 blackout 16" upper and am fairly new to the 300BLK game. Was wondering what cartridge (besides a handload) y'all would recommend for a deer/hog round for hunting most shots will be under 300yds. Also not running a suppressor (saving for it)
Thanks!

Barnes

These or the TTSX rounds will be a hammer

I don't hunt, but I've got one buddy who does it with 300 BLK and the Barnes is all he uses.

BTW... welcome to the board!

Another vote for the Barnes. One of the few bullets that will get good expansion at any distance out of the 300 BLK (which is why I switched to 6.8 SPC for hunting)

I built a 300 upper for hunting awhile back but aborted it.

But I would feel good about it from 300 in for sure

I hand loaded some 110gr Barnes and had stellar results from a 16” barrel.

I have a 300BLK. I just finished up deer season. I shot a deer with a 150 grain bullet. That thing can do some damage. I've shot deer with a 30-06, 30-30, and now a 300 blackout. From what I remember the 300 did more damage. I shot it in the leg due to my scope being off. I just about had to throw out the whole leg where it was shot. You will have no problem hunting pigs and deer with that round. That's just my story about them.

Anyone have any updates on this topic from this last hunting season? Especially interested in results from 10" .300blk on deer and hogs.

Still trying to get out coyote hunting. Best location I have to hunt on is a friend's place with 360 acres. We're running out some trail cams, but Turkey season is coming. After that, provided some 'yotes smile for the camera, we'll just need to set up some bait buckets.

Finally got it built. Now I'm more anxious for some hog blasting.

Re: the hunting, I gotta get Whitey some friends! One of my shooting buddies has the beetles that pick skulls clean. Takes a couple days and it's like this inside and out!

A trust for a can is definitely on the wishlist! Still not sure about stock/sbr stamp since I cross state lines a lot.

That's awesome! Sure beats boiling them in water with Dawn soap, scraping scrubbing.

What does crossing state lines have to do with SBRing your gun? Just file a bunch of the advisory notes, no reply, or permission necessary. AFAIK, you just keep the notice with your other NFA paperwork and you're gtg. Hopefully one of the resident NFA guru's *Paging slippers, UWOne, or Stick* will pop along and confirm, or call B.S. Ok I thought it was more to it than that, like having to notify each trip out of state. I tend to shoot/hunt more in Mississippi than Louisiana, that's why I was concerned. And the Thordsen/MFT saddle setup is pretty dang comfy.

Only other perk to staying pistol that comes to my mind is I can have it loaded in the vehicle here while traveling, but the minute it gets a stock and becomes a rifle it falls under game laws and has to be unloaded. Ridiculous, but that's Louisiana laws for you.

This may mean that when funds allow for a gun trust I may pickup a nicer lower like an Aero and have it SBR'd and leave this Anderson lower in pistol configuration for traveling.

Unless you're evacuating, technically you do have to wait for the response, but it doesn't take long. You can file multiple forms to different locations at the same time and if you fill in the form correctly, it's good for one year, no matter how many trips you make.

If moving around in-state, no form is required, however the NFA branch requests a form be submitted for a permanent move in-state.
