Rubber bands are a field expedient and cheap solution, you do get what you pay for. Pay peanuts, and you get monkeys (except our beloved shipping monkey, he's awesome). Most rubber bands deteriorate quickly, and none are adjustable in any way. Say no to rubber bands [:D]

TSK (Tape Switch Keeper) is an 8 inch 1/8 shock cord, tipped with an ITW Zipcord. It's far more durable, and can be adjusted for tension http://www.forwardcontrolsdesign.com/TSK-Tape-Switch-Keeper_p_130.html

TSK is actually a companion product for a thus unannounced project we're working on. So we got a bunch of SF tape switches for testing, and since they all work with the M600DF we just got from Will at Arisaka, we're using one of them until this project goes to production. Immediately we rediscovered the annoying part of a tape switch: cable management. The SF tape switch cables are short enough, but there's always a section that can't be tucked in.

We have plenty of material for Sling Keep A, so we made a simple cable tie for the tape switch cable, TSK can be adjusted for tension (by reducing its length), and will last much longer than rubber bands. The 1/8 shock cord fits nicely between 1913 rails and prevents it from unduly rolling on the hand guard.

TSK competes with rubber bands that cost almost nothing, $1 is reasonable in material and labor, each is hand made [BD]

Cord gets pretty awful smelling if you hunt, or fish. Or have some other occasion to get blood, grease, etc. on it. I ditched most of my knife lanyards for this reason. OTOH, it's a dollar, so easily replaceable. What happened to electrical tape and safety wire? Shit, I know a motor pool guy that uses zip ties for everything (way too much).
