This.
I need to upgrade mine and my processor.

Didn't realize this little thing had night sights until I went into my safe this morning and saw them looking back at me. They were saying "take my picture!" So I obliged.

Hahaha I have a tripod that would hold it but I don't use it. Seriously I use my wife's vanity for lighting there is no room for anything other than what I am taking a picture of and the fabric I use for a back drop

It took a lot of practice. This was with the shutter staying open for 6 seconds and using my phone's LED to "paint" light on the pistol.

Not as bad as people make it out to be. I wouldn't recommend running and gunning with it but it's manageable. Mostly due to the Hogue grips it comes with

Not everything I have is super pretty. This was my first handgun given to me by my grandfather. I tried to show the wear and use this gun saw while he had it. To give you an idea of the type of man my Grandfather was at one point this was his sidearm when he hunted deer, yep just deer lol. My grandfather is in a assisited living facility now but I still remember the 6'4'' man with arms the size of a volkswagen from when I was little.. ok enough of that mushy stuff...

I sold a Model 36 j-frame locally that had a wood Hogue grip I really liked. Today I bought it back for $25. They go for $125 new. Good looking coco bolo and the little pinky ledge makes a big difference for stability. It does jut out a bit more under shirt in an OWB, but makes pulling from pocket easier than the short rubber.

Look at what I got my hands on today! It stayed there as I don't have a 40 but still nice. Slide is a little beefier as it has more of a block cut vs the tapered cut on the VP9. Still a great trigger and I'm sure it shoots well.

That's a question I get asked all the time. I used to have another Nighthawk and a Wilson. Obviously I have a thing for Wilson a bit more since I own more but I'll be honest... You can't mess with my Nighthawk Falcon. Everything about it is perfect for my style of shooting. The texture, how it rides in your hand and it's just more rugged. It doesn't look like it but I've put thousands of rounds through those three. Never a malfunction. They are just made so perfect. But if I had to chose only one, it would be my Falcon.

Yes and No. Mine is the .380 "Government" model.

Slide and barrel a tad bit longer, grip a bit longer, 7 rounds versus 6. Pre Mustang/Pocketlite. Was in Salt Lake last month at MARS Armament, we discussed some options and upgrades for this. Front sight is a must do. I added a full length stainless rod and got rid of the PLASTIC nub of a guide rod. Dang thing is like a laser beam (if you can front sight the thing!)

Jerry-inspired 1911 envy? I DON"T THINK SO....BAM!

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/780/23157544853_e2ad560c4b_h.jpg

That's right. An in-original-box Rohm Gmbh RG14 in .22 LR. With hang tags, even.

$31 in 1975 and Gramps overpaid by a factor of two. Along with its predecessor (the RG10), this pistol is a real candidate for "The Worst Firearm Ever Produced." Yup, not just the worst handgun....the worst gun overall. Ever.

Here's the story: I've been trying to get the family legacy guns cleaned and stored after Dad's passing. There's a lot of great, interesting history in the collection. And some ummmmm, less valuable (near-worthless?) pieces. This is one of the latter, purchased by my grandfather seven years after the 1968 Gun Control Act classified this as a Saturday Night Special, halting importation. Somehow (surprise...) it sat around a shop until my poor grandpa wandered in. Every time I see this monstrosity, I can't help but laugh - and was in a perverse enough mood to share it tonight. I thought the red velvet backdrop was a nice finishing touch even though I didn't want to mess with staging and strobes.

It's also worth noticing that this model is closely tied to the Brady Bill - Hinckley used an RG14 in his desperate attempt to woo Jodie Foster by shooting President Reagan (WTF?). The uproar lead directly to the passing of that less-than-impactful legislation.

Heh heh, wait until I can get pics of the Winchester 1911 S.L. "Widowmaker" for you guys. Perhaps the dumbest shotgun I've ever seen - though I'll probably put shells through it someday. [wow]

Well, the optic going on my build is a full 50% of your budget so thats part of why mine will be a bit more expensive. I am considering purchasing a slide with milling already completed so as to allow me to potentially sell the gun in the future with the OEM slide and keep my custom upper. (So I can buy another one and try different frame mods)

Keep an eye on Top Gun Supply's website. They sell a lot of Sigs and will sometimes have some crazy good deals on brand new guns. I've also seen used Sigs for less than the price of a new Gen 3 Glock. Some were police trade-ins with dead tritium sights and some holster wear, but otherwise very nice pistols. Add a short reset trigger, and you're in business. So, i wouldn't give up hope of owning a Sig just yet. You do have to act fast when they come up though, as they generally sell out rather quickly. I'll let you know if i come across any deals.

Your above project looks like a lot of fun! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Random question:

Why do people hate the finger grooves on Glock grips?

I don't like them on Gen 3's because where they are is just not where my fingers want to be, so instead of falling into the finger grooves, my fingers tend to ride on the sides and tops.

I don't mind the Gen 4's because they're smaller and less obtrusive. It's kinda like a couple AR grips. I like the bumps on an Erog, but abhor Hogue's

A properly executed undercut solves a lot of the issues people have with the finger grooves in gen 3's. I personally prefer to nub them down a bit though to allow my hand to fit itself to the frame better.

I've found the same, I leave them, but "toned down" a bit, which seems to make them work well with a good undercut. They are useful as an index point.

Sorry man, I missed your question! I was actually wondering if there was no love for this new pistol.

This is the spankin' new Ruger American Pistol Pro series in 9 mm. It's a full size pistol and nearly identical to my full size Glocks. It's actually more similar to my glocks than different. The one departure is the trigger, of course. I've got limited time with it so far, but it's growing on me (I walked into the shop ready buy an XD 4.0 Service). I started out curious about this pistol; I guess that was enough to plunk down the cash for it. I like the look and feel. The gun comes with 3 different size back/side covers to the grip's base and the medium fits me well, but I'm going to try the small later this evening just to see if it feels compellingly different. I have big hands and stubby fingers, but the way it comes the medium grip puts the trigger right on the pad of my finger. Not bad, but my problem with double stacks is I have to change my grip slightly to hit the mag release. With the American's ambi mag release, I can simply curl my trigger finger back and hit the release without manipulating the weapon. Cool work-around; may not ever come into play for my purposes, but it works and feels decent. It doesn't have the silly bar inside the action like my shield, to enable removing the slide. Being mainly a Glock shooter, that struck as a really odd step to breaking down a weapon... Sticking your pinky finger down inside the action (great use for a Twist, BTW!), isn't much different from putting your head in an alligator's mouth. :)

The trigger! It's set back in the guard and so takeup is shorter than what I'm used to in either my Glocks or my Shield. It breaks kind of so-so, and feels kind of gritty and I'm sure it's loaded with crap and could use a good cleaning. I tend to leave the stock stuff in for 500 rounds to let it have its break-in. I'm not a huge trigger snob, but its no Geissele, with it's snappy break. One thing I notied is you can feel the trigger break (un-cocked) in the same place as when it's firing live ammo. Never noticed that on my other pistols; not sure if its good, bad, or indifferent.

This is my first Ruger since I had a 10/22 as a kid. I've not been much a fan or the SR's or any other pistols until this one grabbed me. I've owned an H&K USP before, and though its by no stretch a USP, its pretty comparable, mainly the silhouette I guess.

200 rounds of a mixture of new Winchester and Freedom Munitions 115 gr jhp's without a hiccup. No target to show off; I bust pop cans and jumping targets around the yard. :)

For the longest time, I thought my friend had a .45 Ti-Rant, didn't realize it was a 9mm. OEM threaded barrel in the black. Got one more sitting NIW for the RAL8000 eventually. Ran just fine with Remington UMC 115 gr. (26 rounds) and Winchester W Train 147 gr. (50 rounds).

Moneyshot! Very nice!

A bit different, since I'm digging into the pistol anyway. Started with a SRT kit, broken hammer reset spring, and Gray Guns adjustable trigger. Needed a deep clean after lots of suppressed shooting, however I don't think I"ll venture this deep into a Sig again.

I haven't worked up the guts to completely tear down any of my Sigs. Glocks? No sweat. H&Ks? Covered. Sig? Ugh... I do wan't to learn to do it though, as i like having the ability to work on my own guns. I should get one that needs a little love to begin with, so i actually have a reason to tear it down.

GriffonSec
24 February 2016, 17:36
Wasn't my plan either, until I noticed the broken hammer reset spring. It's fairly intuitive, there's a couple of pins you must hit, and hitting them hurts your special place just in case. I have an Armorer's book. Tonight's work is installing a new hammer stop and reset spring, then hammer, strut and mainspring housing. The trigger from Gray's is still in transit. I may get the de-cocker in tonight as well. Tomorrow will be the SRT kit then wait on the rest to arrive.

GriffonSec
24 February 2016, 18:37
Wasn't as bad as I imagined, went very quickly. Used a punch to verify how the hammer set in relation to the reset spring, easy peasy. Had it back together in about 15 minutes, minus the trigger assembly that I'm waiting on. I can say a 17lb mainspring makes a WORLD of difference in just the feel of manually cocking the pistol and decocking it.

Nicely done! An armorer manual would definitely help things. I've got Gray's trigger in my P229 Legion that has an overtravel adjustment. I'm still playing with it, but have it adjusted pretty close to perfect now. Talk about quick follow up shots.

GriffonSec
24 February 2016, 19:05
I love my 220. Lots. Almost as much as my 1911s, but maybe more in a different way. My one gripe has been the trigger. I should have done the spring pack and SRT kit long ago, I can tell that already. I'm guessing the trigger will just be icing on the cake. Can't wait. You should try the 17 or 19lb mainsprings from Gray's. (I kinda wish Sig would release the flat trigger from the Legion P series, just to try it)

I was worked up over doing the work myself, but I can tell you, if I can do it, you'll have no trouble what-so-ever.

24 February 2016, 19:21
I'm spoiled i guess. My first Sig had the Short Reset Trigger in it from the factory. After that, nothing less would do. [BD]

I'm pretty confident that i'd be able to work on my Sigs. But that first step is the most difficult.

As for the flat trigger, i would like to try one of those myself. But, i think it's a feature that's only available of the SAO P226 Legion.

Bought my first Tupperware Glock today – a gen 3 G22!

Has a CVH serial prefix so I knew it was an early one. It came with 3 mags, paperwork, cleaning rod and brush for $350!!

http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa393/officerfrasher/6F1706C5-0865-4BCE-951C-831AF6FB8B9A_zpsxdjwdqqu.jpg

After I handed the guy the money and was about to walk away he said, “oh yeah, here’s 50 rounds of ammo for you.” Turned out to be Speer JHP. A sweet deal, I think!

http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa393/officerfrasher/415B384E-D0FF-4716-AB5A-7F6428D1D681_zps0a9vwecr.jpg

There’s some holster wear and a few other marks, nothing major. It has barely-visible night sights that will need to be replaced. The extractor is a non Loaded Chamber Indicator one.

Upon disassembly I noticed some gouge marks on the frame rails. It appeared to be where the locking block would make contact.

http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa393/officerfrasher/F1080459-3FD9-4813-9D7C-945A02BD9247_zpsmjiwlzdt.jpg

I was a little concerned about this so I contacted Glock to get their opinion, and I also wanted to know an approximate manufacture date. An armorer I spoke with said the wear was normal which is why they changed the locking block design. I was also advised that the gun was imported on 09/01/1998.

Overall, I’m happy with my purchase! I plan to buy a spring kit and replace them and maybe an extended mag release and extended take down lever.

The search for a duty sized double stack continues though. My girly small hands really limit me. I rented a lane at Buds for an hour with unlimited free pistol swaps. Tried a VP9, P30, G34, SR9 and a CZ-SP01. I shot each really well slow fire which is typical for me, however when I started picking up the pace with failure drills and bill drills my small sized mitts really started affecting the controllability.

At this point I think I need to look into a grip reduced glock, but am open to suggestions.

Check out the new Ruger American Pistol with the small grip shell. It reduces the grip's depth and width, giving it a really nice, controllable feel. I have the "blocky" grip problem with Glocks and this is a way better feel than my full size G units. As to the fact it's still a Ruger; I think they really upped their game with this handgun. It's worth a try.

All back together, about to hit the backyard range to try that new trigger setup. SA may end up being a bit too light with that 17lb mainspring. The GGI adjustable trigger zeroed any overtravel in SA. It's like a different gun. Now to get my other set of factory grips off to Senor BattleCock....

Well, it's my first can so I can't compare with others. Positives are: does not feel all that front heavy; suppresses well with 147 gr - better on Sig than Glock 19; does not seem to shift POI much that I can tell. Feels extremely well machined. I did have to buy a separate metric piston. Comes with 1/2x28.

Periodically check tightness of the front cap. (thinking safe practices) It may vibrate loose. Ditto can itself after a few shots from cold and every mag or two. Maybe I'm paranoid about damaging. Shooting gloves NOT enough insulation. When done firing, at least crack the can open a half turn to break the seal. Seems more an issue with the taper mount rifle can. I keep threads and taper surface lubed with Aeroshell barrel grease. Others with experience may have better ideas.

Factory Glock high sights do not rise above can surface. But I seem to shoot as well can on or off. Same with standard Sig sights. At least at shorter distances.

A friend just polished my Silencerco barrel. This doesn't do it any justice. I'll have to get some other shots that show off how great it looks in my VP9.

I finally finished the HK USP9 project i've been collecting parts for over the past couple years. It started simple enough: buy a new USP9 and get a threaded barrel for it so i could use it as a suppressor host on occasion, and add other parts (tall sights, etc.) as i found deals on them. Well, i liked the way the basic gun shot so well that i decided to keep it as is and source another USP9 (a used one this time) to use as a dedicated suppressor host. I collected parts as i came across them, and had everything i needed to finish the project except a USP9. Not finding what i was looking for on the used market locally, i emailed my Koch dealer to see what sort of deal he could get me on a new pistol, and couldn't say no.

I used all new Heckler & Koch parts on this pistol to keep it looking like something HK might actually sell, and to ensure 100% function and reliability (no point in buying an HK only to sacrifice what makes it an HK). The slide was fitted with HK's (made by Meprolight) tall adjustable sights, and USP9SD barrel (threaded) and recoil spring assembly (designed to function with cans). The frame was gutted and the stock trigger was replaced with a combination of HK's Match and LEM trigger components, which makes for an incredibly smooth, crisp, reliable trigger pull with minimal (adjustable to personal preference) over travel. The frame was finished off with a Jet Funnel kit, which balances out the gun quite nicely (especially with a can attached) and makes the grip feel perfect to my hands.

The end result is a gun thats easy to shoot well and is stupid quiet with my Osprey 45 and subsonic ammo.

A full size USP 9 was my first 9mm handgun. It's a year shy of 20 years old, I have owned it for half of that. I carry it almost daily and it has never let me down.

They are nice shooters. And i find them to be very comfortable as well, despite what some have described as brick-like ergonomics.

I think it was 1998 or so when I first shot a USP, happened to be a full size 9mm. Was super comfortable and accurate. Over the years, I've obtained a few 9mm USPc's, but never added the full size to the collection. If I can find a USP9SD for a reasonable price, I might jump on one this year.
