Very Nice !
I jump on too many bandwagons, too soon. I bought a 22-45 about a year before replaceable grips and fluted, threaded, Lite barrels. Put a Tac-Sol on mine. But, it does shoot.

No. I wish! This is one I had re-blued some years ago by Mike Williamson out of Stanwood, Washington. The guy is a truly gifted artisan but his business sense isn't worth a damn. He's been getting a lot of bad reviews lately, not because of his workmanship, but because of the way he conducts his business. It's unfortunate. I personally didn't have any issues with the man.

Everybody got XD jokes [:D] Thanks though!
- I bought it in '08 before I knew they were supposed to be bad. Got 2 of them actually. Carried it daily until a Glock 19 Gen 4 took over this year. Nobody must have given this one the memo that it is bad, other than a PRP striker retaining pin and the Sig Trijicon HDs, it's bone stock, has over 5k through it, and never gave me shit. There were stoppages here and there, but same shit that happens with any gun.
I can't help but still love it, hence the refinish.

A paddle mag release is the first thing i plan on adding. I'm trying to source the parts from someplace other than hkparts.net, and i'd like to see if i can figure out a way to install it without having to molest the receiver. I think i've got a solid plan for that, but i won't know for sure until i get the parts.
I do have a Swiss made B&T cold hammer forged 3-lug barrel (threaded in 1/2-28) for it. That i will need to have sent out to a competent H&K smith for the install. Although, the idea of keeping the original non-threaded barrel on the gun and going the true MP5K route (as opposed to the MP5K-PDW with threaded 3-lug barrel) is rather appealing. Keeping the gun as original as i can and preserving it's factory finish, value, and collectability, as well as keeping it as small as possible are all considerations. Of course, this means i'll have to acquire another one to deck out with the threaded 3-lug barrel and whatnot. [BD]
As for price, i think i did alright. I got around $300 knocked off retail, plus a nice discount on the fees for a few transfers i was picking up at the same time. So i'm pleased with how things worked out. If i get another one, i will wait until it can be had for that $2200 figure you mentioned.

That's what I'm leaning towards for this one, leave it as is except for a B&T folder and MP5K vertical foregrip. If I can do the paddle mag release without having to drill/weld the receiver, I'll ad that as well. If not, I'll install it on the second one, should I get one. Which stock are you thinking of for yours, when the time comes? B&T? Choate?
I'm curious what the used market will look like for the SP5K. As long as it's still being imported, I imagine one will be able to score a clean used example for less than street price of a new one. But like the Mark 23, I'm sure they will retain much of their value. Once they're no longer being imported, I can see these selling for as much as, if not more than the SP89s are fetching.
UWone77
28 November 2016, 09:47
In my non-expert opinion, I don't think the secondary market will be as good on these as far as holding their value. They are neutered and there is plenty of competition out there, even arguably better. These aren't like USC's or SL8's either where people will buy them up on the secondary market as hosts. There are no other options with UMP and G36 conversions. MP5's the clones are plentiful.
I'd love to see HK just release what the consumer wants... yes I know it's easier said than done and it's more than just a hurdle or two. I don't subscribe to the, "they're HK and they hate us." They could easily put all the cloners out of business though.

Time will tell. I think that as long as the SP5K is still being imported into the US, the secondary market may be a little soft but i think they will still hold their value better than say an MKE. But if the SP89 is any indicator, once they stop being imported, if that ever happens, they will command a premium. MP5 clones might be plentiful, but genuine civilian legal German HKs are a bit more scarce. Not as scarce as USCs or SL8s, but far less numerous than any of the major players in the clone market. Some people will always be willing to pay a premium to have a German gun as the starting point for their project, hence the hefty price tags on guns like the SP89 (which was just as neutered as the SP5K is) and the HK94.
As for the whole "you suck and we hate you" thing, i'm with you. I don't believe it for a minute. I've found HK's customer service to be superior to just about every other firearm manufacturer i've ever dealt with. The neutered state of the SP5K has as much to do with German export laws as it does with US import restrictions. I'm sure HK could've saved a boat load of cash selling us standard MP5Ks with a semi auto trigger pack as opposed to having to engineer a bunch of crap that makes conversion to full auto difficult to do. But i'm happy they did, as it's tough to beat a real HK even if it is slightly neutered.

Nice. It's a shame Sig doesn't just cut a M1913 Picatinny rail on every railed pistol they make. All my Sig P-series pistols have Sig's half-assed accessory rail instead of a real M1913 rail.

I hear you, though at the same time, it's worked out well for me because Glock is also non-standard. Because the Sigs push the light forward in the rail, I'm able to run a Glock attachment clip and sand down the front face of the lug ever so slightly. Now I can run my Glock lights on my Sigs and it's not loose on either gun.
A little ghetto, I know, but saved me a little money in case I want to move a light around, which is fairly rare, and doesn't make me want to go all out and buy another.

I like that idea and wouldn't say that it's ghetto at all. More like clever and practical. That's money in the bank (or spent on ammo). I'm going to file that trick away for future use.

For being about the same size as a 1911, with the HK45 you gain two rounds of magazine capacity, the ability to have a multitude of trigger configurations (i converted mine to light LEM), and lose 13 or so ounces of weight. Obviously, it's an apples to oranges comparison in just about every other aspect. But the HK45 is a pretty slick package for a full size .45 pistol. And i actually carry mine, although it's usually in winter when i can wear heavier clothing.
I haven't shot my HK45 suppressed yet simply because i haven't purchased a threaded barrel for it yet (i bought it in 2011, which was years before i purchased my first silencer). Every time i catch wind of a good deal on a factory threaded barrel for it, they are sold out before i can grab one. i've got pistons for it though, so i'm ready to rock when i finally get a barrel.

But here's the thing, does it really need any more power? I already find it frustrating when I hit 80 and I'm in 6th gear and it's time to click into 8th. Then again, I'm raining money upon a new home, so a Dinan isn't in my future either.

I just wish it had a HUD. Since I've owned manuals before, I never felt I needed one, but in my F22 with Step, I find it very easy to lose track of what gear I'm in, even by looking at the tac and speedometer, and the extra distance I have to look down to find the gear number before going into a turn (to know how many downshifts I need) is less than optimal. Certainly a first world problem...and probably a topic for another thread.

No changes yet... need to play more with the double action to figure out if it's needed or not...

Funny you ask. I don't have any vested interest in ZEV. I don't even know anyone that works there. No discounts, No freebies, I just like their stuff and so far it's worked well for me.

That Texas Rifle Co one I think is so far the best for a pistol, but I don't think you'll see any benefit to comps at all on pistols unless you're running +P or +P+ loads.

I mean...Maybe? It depends on the person as much as the gun. A shitty shooter won't notice much difference, a skilled shooter will.
I've noticed that most of my drill times are 1/4 faster with a comped gun. That may also be the optic, but I've run them with and without optics and they are all very similar with a comp than without.
I think little guns like the 26 and 43 are where comps are going to be the bread and butter.

I run 147gr Gold Dots so honestly, I don't see or feel much of a difference. You probably shoot more pistol than I do though.
I feel quite a difference and the timer seems to enforce it. I am running 147 HSTs.

I find the G19 is very snappy in my hands, but when I shoot my buddy's Roland, recoil change was very noticeable and felt like my G17. I haven't run it on a timer, but shot-to-shot follow through was easier.

I guess it's just me then. I find the G19 and G17 to be almost perfect. The G23 and G22 are obviously .40 and much snappier. I would love to try it out on a .40, but I sold off almost all my 40's awhile back.

I really don't like the way .40S&W Glocks shoot. I dumped my G22 a while back and haven't once regretted it. In fact, i've only got two .40s left, both HKs. Anyway, i agree; it would be interesting to try a comp on a .40 Glock.

I've got 1 .40 USP 40c. I find that 40 USP's are not as bad, probably because the USP was designed around the 40, while the Glock was designed around the 9mm.
Glock accessories seem to be the thing right now, I'm sure there will be many more comp designs in the near future.

I've got a USP40C and a P30 in .40. That the USP was designed around the .40 probably has something to do with the better recoil characteristics compared to Glocks in .40. But both the USP40C and P30 .40 have a nylon recoil buffer on the recoil spring assembly. How much that actually contributes, your guess is as good as mine. But whatever HK engineers did to mitigate recoil in their .40 weapons, it worked.

Somebody summed it up perfectly in the thread about med kits. The pistol comp is a solution that needs a problem. The proper solution is shoot more, or get a girl gun.
This talk about contact shots... PAH! You're going to be wearing it no matter what you shoot at that range. A comp ain't gonna keep your mom from from shouting you out when you come home slathered in sauce like you just left the Rendezvous.
Deadwing
10 April 2017, 22:01
I thought the purpose of those "stand-off" devices was to prevent the gun from going out of battery and allow one to get off a contact shot, not to prevent one from becoming slathered in sauce.

Theory is a billion dollar industry. Some proven, some not so much. Is it plausible? Sure. I'd be curious to know the incidence of that type of situation. I'll be the first to admit that just because I've never heard of such a thing doesn't mean it can't happen. It seems like there might be better options.
The stand off device concept is not new, most just used their weapon mounted light as one. Most cases I've read about where a stand off device would have helped involved LEO's.

Also helps people in Agencies where lights are not approved. We just had our lights approved not that long ago. It's only been a few years. Many departments are not forward thinking or receptive to anything but stock firearms.

I got a Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrel for my Glock 23 and have been happy with it. Cheap and simple switch, and I still can run .40SW if I care to (I even picked up a .357SIG barrel as well).

X300's are superior IMHO, but the XC1 offers a lot of concealability. I carry a G19 with an XC1 (not the pistol pictured) in a Raven Phantom, and even with the light you barely notice the size difference between just the pistol.
