I have the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream an buy a lever gun. I am looking at the Marlin 336bl and 336 Dark. Would a vg6 gamma be a suitable muzzle device for the Marlin. I know the gamma is designed around the ar15 platform. Will it still function well on a 30-30 lever gun?

I grew up shooting them. My 18th b-day I bought myself a new Winchester 94 in 30-30, loved that gun..about a year later, I was heading home from ellensburg and got caught in a flash flood.. my rifle was in the back, kinda buried..It should be all right..Nope..2 hours later, got home and unpacked it..all the bluing has come off.. Sold that thing next day for big loss..

Anyways.. can’t say I’m a fan of muzzle brakes on them, a can would be cool. Not enough recoil yo justify for me.

Just do your homework on the Marlins, there’s some bad years in there you want to avoid.

If you want recoil, the .45-70 Govt ought to hook you up pretty nicely. One would think that as long as the 1894 has been in continuous production, somebody would have chambered it in .30-06, or .243... something with balls in the boiler room!

After a .22 rifle my dad bought me a Win .30-30 for a deer rifle. around '73. Accidently left at a hunting campsite until I realized it was missing, about 3 weeks later in the late 80's. I drove about 150 miles back there, hoping it was still there. It was, but it was just a rusted POS by then. Broke my heart. Wish I could get it back somehow.[bash]

Me. I run a Henry .45-70. I absolutely love it. Minus the misfire problems I’ve been having. I need to call them, and seek counsel about what to do with it. Anyway. This is my 2nd lever gun. First one was a Winchester ‘94 I believe it was. Chambered in .30-30. Bought it used. Didn’t have it very long though, due to insurance screwing me when I had to have my wisdom teeth extracted. Had to sell it and a 1911 I had JUST bought. I was not happy. But. I like my Henry MUCH more. I’d LOVE to have an 1895SBL as well, but those are BIG money. My Henry was only $795. Haha

Those color case hardened Henry's are pretty sweet for low dough. I'm having one someday soon.

I grew up shooting lever guns. Two of my favorites. A Marlin 336 in .35 And a Winchester 71 in .348 WCF. The Winchester was manufactured in 1939. The Marlin in 1951.

I really want to get one of the new threaded ones from Winchester, but the new gate loading threaded Henry rifles also look great.
