What handguard for 8” barrel

Kinda brainstorming, and havent really built anything this short yet. So say one was gonna use an 8” barrel- like the RA nitride- https://www.rainierarms.com/rainier-arms-select-300blk-barrel-8-nitride-non-fluted/

What handguard length would be MAX for such a length if using a can, not tucked or anything but close to end.

I have multiple handguards (Noveske, CMT, KAC) a half inch shorter than barrel length and they fit perfectly.

The decision is based on how far your muzzle device indexes off the barrel shoulder. My dead air mounts index far enough that the can doesn’t touch the handguard with the keymo mount.

YMMV depending on which mount you use and how the can mounts.

I’d measure a barrel with the mount and can of choice on it. See how much gap sits between shoulder and can. That’ll give your answer. Some cans cans go on further back and snug forward so you need to account for that too.

As I got an extra upper and bcg (and gas block-if I replace 308 with adj. one) ..blah blah......lol....[BD].......so I figured with a incoming can I’d take advantage and build a cheap decent blackout upper for shits and giggles..

No ammo or cases..had a 16” years ago but lost interest as no can to take advantage

Make sure you get exact measurements from manufacturers you're looking at. Some 7" are actually 7.2" ect.

The Aero Precision 7" handguards are 7.25" and the BCM 7" handguards are 7.39". Either of those should work fine on an 8" barrel
