I'm told this procedure isn't too hard, anyone here done it already?

After having personally witnessed ( I shot it too) a bone stock DPMS LR308 (.308 AR 24" barrel) shoot maybe a hair over 1.5 MOA with surplus ammo (we were shooting clay pigeons at 100 yards and we hit the pieces until we couldn't see them in the 10x scope we were using), I bought me up one of dem bad boys.

I had my talented gunsmith friend Rob cut the barrel to just under 21" so that it's lighter, shorter, has a stiffer barrel, and still has the legs to go to 1000 yards. He also installed a CMMG 2 stage trigger, an Armalite scope mount, and a Magpul PRS stock. A Pride Fowler 3-9x scope finished her off. He's checking the gun over to see if the gas port needs opened up and I should have it by next week.
FYI, Rob built an AR15 that shots sub 3" groups at 600 yards. The guy does exacting work to your specification and his work is safe.

I just found a hex wrench that fit the MIAD hole for the AR selector switch detent spring, cut it down to size with a Dremel, and epoxied it in place. Took five minutes, tops.

I have a MIAD on my DPMS LR-308 and it required no mods; fit perfectly.

I also put the PRS on it, an ADM Recon Scope Mount, and I just posted a thread on "how do I replace the tube with a DD rail?" (I have it on order).

Yeah, there is that wedge, but I think it's more for the Armalite AR-10 or Knight Armament SR-25 receiver. The DPMS receiver is different, as is the RRA (which is FAL like from what I hear). It was not needed on my DPMS--its just like a .223 receiver, which is nice because it makes it easier to find the furniture I want.

I bought the PRS stock for .308 (DPMS) and compared it to my .223 PRS stock on another rifle and they are the same from what I can tell. I did not swap them out and try them on each platform, just a visual, but they are the same size.

My other Lower will be available for pick-up at my FFL's place this week. I am also tempted to get a Leupold Mark 4 LRT 8.5-25X50 for this.

My gunsmith quickly determined that the .223 and .308 PRS stocks are not the same and that you will not be able to retract the charging handle all of the way back using the .223 stock on a .308 weapon. Be warned.

Like I said, on visual comparison it looks the same size. I stand corrected.

I measured some things on the .308 and .223 PRS stocks.

The .223 PRS stock has a length of 3.5 inches from the receiver end plate to the cheek riser, while the cheek riser itself is 5 inches long. The .308 PRS stock has a length of 4 inches from the receiver end plate to the cheek riser, while the cheek riser itself is 4.5 inches long. Both stocks are ~9.5 inches in length from the receiver end plate to the end of the stock where it meets the adjustable butt pad.

It makes sense, what you stated, that the .308 needs more charging handle clearance, since the .308 charging handle is longer than the .223, and Magpul did compensate for that.

Another note on the Magpul MIAD fit on the DPMS LR-308: I bought the MIAD AR-10/SR-25 grip wedge to try and close the small gap at the rear of the grip where it meets the receiver. Although Magpul does not mention specific manufacturers in its product page on the MIAD grip wedge, I can say that the wedge does not fit DPMS LR-308 lowers using the B2 and B3 backstraps--it's too thick to allow the grip to seat properly. I did not try it with a B1 flat back strap. On the DPMS fit of a MIAD grip, from the pic above, you can see the gap is minimal and probably does not need a wedge.
