View Full Version : Did you buy yourself anything for Christmas?

To be honest I was not planning on getting any gun related stuff for Christmas but at the end of the day I did an impulse buy from SLR.
I built my 6 ARC a while back but one of the quirks I had was the hard guard I originally picked out for it.
The gas block is where it is and the ID of the handguard is what it is so the net result was that I couldn't run my bipod out where I prefer it. The M Lok screws caused interference. At the time I identified a potential solution but it wasn't a priority at the moment. Eventually I forgot about it and went on with life as usual.
That is until I get an email showing the exact handguard I was looking at previously, but for 40% off.
It wasn't in the plan but I splurged on it because eventually I would have bought one anyway.
That was my only real gun related purchase this Christmas, although leading up to the holiday I bought some other small parts that I have been on the waiting list for (backorder) for a few months already.
Anyway if you bought yourself anything cool please feel free to share. It doesn't have to be gun related at all either so show off those new cars and wrist watches if you got em.

I bought myself a Ruger Super Blackhawk, and matching Stainless Leupold scope and rings for myself for handgun hunting next year. May take it hog hunting this year.

Not this year.
I have a few SLR handguards. They are excellent, just a little pricey, so it's very nice you were able to grab the one you wanted at such a discount.

I have SLR handguards on everything except for the one, but that's about to change thanks to the 40% off.

That sucks. I had to shoot one in the middle of the road a while back. Someone else hit it and just left. It was still alive but very injured. She was picking her head up and crying so I felt bad for her. I went home and got my 300 BLK with solid copper expanding subs and finished what I had to do. She was hit about half a mile from my house.

I’ve got a PWS MK2 Mod2 coming in hopefully January. 14.5” barreled 6.5 Creedmoor. and their 7.62 BDE suppressor. First large frame for me so I’m excited.
Still need to figure out glass.

Nice! I have to say, despite all the options and competition, my subcompact Glock (26) is still my favorite for carry.

Jerry, was thinking about one myself. Write a review when you get it and let us know how you like it. For folks like me that don't have baseball glove sized hands and at 10 rounds, it's an attractive option for me.

Books and gun parts. Oh, and a drill press, belt sander, air compressor, and a buffer for my little workshop.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250104/e505cf6f7662a81690f0ef0a48dde6f3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250104/43c35102ace6918aa0af9dc712c488d4.jpg

I did a little peeking at the Glock web site. All Gen 4 45's grips are 34mm 1.24" thick. All Gen 5 45's grips are 35mm 1.38" thick, so they are a wee bit thicker. But they take the same magazines. Not sure if 0.04 inches will help your grip on them. I hope to get to the range soon. I will write up a review once I have had some trigger time. Trigger on the Gen 5 "seems" to be a lot better than previous generations, so I may not swap the fire control. Cell phone photo comparing the Glock 30 and the Shield 45. I know 8 plus 1 is less than 10 plus 1, but ... the Shield is a single stack.

Jerry, did you get the Glock 30 yet? Wondering how you liked it out of the box?

Yessir, the photo 3 posts up is my new Gen 5 G30 next to the Shield 45 for comparison. I like it. Trigger is better than earlier Gens, in my limited opinion, and the barrel no longer has pure polygonal rifling. Gonna try my hardcast lead reloads to see how it does, don't really want to buy an aftermarket barrel for it. Slide finish is not as dull as previous versions, but not a problem for me. Tore it down, got it "range ready" but it looks like I won't make the range until the 18th. Updates after trigger time.

Cool. Can't wait to hear. I'm still thinking it's going to be a bit big for my hands and will have to stick with 1911 format pistols, for .45ACP. Interesting that they switched from Polygonal to regular rifling. Wonder what's up with that?

They didn't really switch from Polygonal. The Marksman barrel is a "modified" polygonal. Supposed to be slightly more accurate, but not as much as a National Match barrel. We'll see how it does with my old eyes, off a bag.

Firearms related? A couple things, but they won't get here till next month, so not necessarily for Christmas.
I did treat myself to an Omega Speedmaster Dark of the Moon.
Hope you guys all had a great start to 2025.

That's a nice present, and probably more practical than what I splurged on.
You've also reminded me I REALLY need to call Omega to set up my free service for my X-33 and ship it off. It's been traveling forward through time for the last 6+ months.

Just one...and I was practical enough to jump on buying it for $600 at the time (2002). It was a steal of a deal military group buy, which also gave us free service for life. All I have to do is show the engraving on the case back. I really do need to get it fixed.

Dude $600 is a steal... even in 2002 dollars. Looks like that's seen a lot of faithful use.
I remember the first Speedmaster I bought was at a dealer in the Virgin Islands. Promptly got shaken down by US Customs on the way back to the mainland.

Customs...they always find a way...
Yeah, I'm not sure why the bezel looks so dirty. It probably had some hydraulic fluid on it or something at the time. I would never wear it on a ship and/or during deployment, for a variety of reasons (some of the ships are capable of frying watches with the radar), but otherwise it would get regular use.
When I got it, I was visiting my parents and my dad and I went in to a local Omega dealer to get the band sized. None of them had seen the watch before, so they were curious. I asked them if they knew the retail price. They went into their Big Book of Omega Watches and finally found it towards the back of the book where the prices went up. Hearing the retail price made the deal even better.
There were some sold commercially, but there's not a lot of them. Otherwise they were just issued by NASA to astronauts and sold by Omega through their military program.

I wasn't going to buy myself anything but I happened to stumble on a Taurus TX22 Competition for a decent price locally. Wife has the regular version and it's been fun so figured might as well.

LOL, I didn't buy anything "For Christmas" but a few days before Christmas I "saved" a ton of money on a new expensive hobby. I picked up a nice camera drone. After playing with this thing I can definitely see the appeal of these things.I really wish I had one when I was on patrol. A thermal drone would have been even better. With that and a K-9 things would have been way simpler.
