So I've had a chance to get it out to the range. I shot both XM193 AE, and a bunch of Black Hills 75gr MHP.

This gun ran perfectly, I'm not surpirsed. Shooting off the bench with the fore end supported by sandbags I was grouping inside of an inch and a half at 50 yds, and inside 3 inches at 100yds using the Black Hills. I'm sure the rifle is capable of better. I was a little concerned going from an Eotech to an Aimpoint but the change over was painless. I could feel the difference between the H buffer in this and the C buffer in my RRA, I can see why the change is recommended.

I still have a couple of little things to work out but all in all this is better than I had hoped it would be.

Big thanks to the folks on this site and M4C who provided a lot of great information to help me select the bits and pieces, and to the Folks at Rainier, G an R, and Bravo Company for having stuff in stock. :D

Now for some pics

How is the balance?

Have you thought about using a front sling mount for 2 point use?

I like the carbine layout, and for the most part, I would only make a few minor changes for my own needs, then would happily carry it for duty use.

I slipped the CQD rail sling mount on the front of the starboard rail up against the XTN panels like you suggested and using the clip the way you showed me works fine.

Balance is great, I was a little concerned the Emod would make it a little butt heavy but it doesn't.

Now I'm thinking about a shorty TD vfg.

Glad that way works for you. You might not need a 2 point most of the time, but with the Magpul sling, its nice to be able to use both options. I think the heavier EMOD probably works real well for balance.
