I am planing to purchase a 6.5 upper. Quality ( reliability) trumps price for me. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Waveman

Are you looking for a precision build or something with a chrome lined barrel? I'd go to the Grendel Forum for the best info. www.65grendel.com

Sabres are supposed to be good.

I am looking for a chromed barrel. Maybe I should reconsider and go with AR 6.8. I have a RA XCR in 6.8, and a few AR 5.56, so I already have 6.8 mags. I am interested in the Grendel 6.5 because ammo is much less $ and I have been led to believe ( from what I have read) that the 6.8 ballistics are not as good as 6.5.

As far as ballistics what we need is a .408 cheytac version of the AR :)

There were numerous back and forth posts on M4C regarding 6.5 v 6.8, same on Arfcom. I'm also on the fence, but I may toss myself into the 6.5 camp based on the rarity/oddity factor.

I don't think you can really go too wrong with either choice. Its kind of like a granny smith apple or a red delicious? If you like apples--hey, its an apple!!

Rainierarms also has 6.5 uppers in stock in at least 2 configurations as well as the 6.5 mags.

They also have chrome lined 6.5 uppers as well as 6.8

How far do you plan on shooting? If it is under 500 yards I'd stick with the 6.8SPC Since you already have one. One 6.? caliber is good enough for now. The only Grendel ammo that is cheaper is the Wolf ammo. The good thing about the 6.8SPC ammo is that you can call up SSA at any time and they pretty much have the ammo in stock.

Ryanm,

Do you have any experience with Rainer Arms products? They are not to far from me.

Thanks,

You have a good point there!

I can vouch for Rainier in a customer service aspect. I have gone from scouring the web for vendors with marginal cheaper prices to buying every single thing I need for the platform from Rainier. They are usually one of the best prices; their shipping is greatness, (like 3 days); they keep their online stocks up to date; and if you havent noticed from this site, they only carry reputable gear. Im pretty much in the same boat as you as far an being in the market for a 6.x for this fall season. I have found RR's on gunbroker, used uppers on arfcomm...but forget it. I would rather get a top quality upper from Rainer and be assured that if I run into any reasonable mechanical hangups that they will help me out. Besides being an e-business for a volatile product line; they are a flat out awesome online business period. Its like tech stuff if your familiar; "once you know you newegg.." well "if you want premier, shop Rainier."
