For LEOs, I know that carrying a spare mag or two when you deploy your rifle on duty can be an issue. I've seen pictures of guys who carry them on their duty belts. Others just slide them in pockets on their way out of the car.
I used to have a mag coupler, which I thought was a great idea because I would always have 60 rounds immediately available. Training is great, because I soon realized this was not a great idea. First off, it's heavy. I can deal with weight if the payoff is worth it. So, after shooting a lot of rounds through my rifle in one session, the malfunctions started occurring. After a few secondary malfunctions, I determined having a coupled mag was a horrible idea. I'm trained to rip that mag out and throw it to the ground. Well, there goes my spare mag. A redi-mag could be an option, but I came up with something else.
If you wear a jumpsuit with a tazer (ahem, Electronic Control Tool) pouch and don't actually keep your tazer in there, it makes a great mag pouch. Some guys have their tazers on their belts, other guys like me have them in a more secure hip holster.
So I took the old tazer pouch (our jumpsuits are from Bratwear) and modified it to hold a 20 round PMag. I tried the 30 rounder, but it was a little to big and uncomfortable. I stitched the bottom portion of the pouch insert to keep the mag high enough in the pouch to be secure. I then simply use the snap-strap to keep the mag in place.
The pics aren't great, but I'll try to get some taken of me actually wearing the jumpsuit and all of my gear.
Just another option in a world of options...
