No different now. Going to be a Sandy Hook, leading up to the election type deal again.

Dropping by Rainier, they're out of most ammo, and the shelves are bare of full rifles and lowers. I think it'll be 9-12 months before it returns back to normal. Glad I stocked up over that last 2 years or so, a case here, a case there, plus a bunch of 9mm and .40 cal.

Vowed never to get caught with my pants around my knees due to panic buying. Same for mags.

Ditto. Way to go man! Brings me at least some small amount of peace when I look around and see how well I've prepared. Instead of being gouged for preps, I can focus on other things, even make a few bucks because I thought ahead [:)]

Midway has some Viper HS LR 4-16x50mm scopes on clearance for $350. I don't care for the BDC reticle, but that's a good price for a Viper. It's a side focus / parallax adjustable optic which is hard to get in this price range so wouldn't be a bad choice for rimfire, either.

i've been looking everywhere for a mega gtr-3h lower but couldn't find any. thought id share a place with some hard to find MEGA items. not really "deals" but not the worst pricing I've ever seen.

https://www.jsesurplus.com/search.aspx?find=mega

some mega gtr-3s lowers, some mega forged lowers with JSE logo, some mega uppers, and some MATEN receiver combos

if anyone happens to come across a gtr-3h or even better a gtr-3h ambi lower and would post here that would be great.

I think it's like Toilet Paper last year. Everyone wants what they can't have.

I'm just hoping to get a BCM BCG at close to MSRP sometime soon. And my wait for a backordered LMT 308 BCG will probably be worse than waiting for a tax stamp.

What I don't get is the optics shortage.

As if there is legislation coming down to ban optics.

Uffdaphil
6 May 2021, 08:52
I suspect one factor is the Chicom Flu disrupting supply chains internationally. How many sources are there for fine lenses and other optic components? Do their home countries have restrictive work rules? Are their social welfare programs lucrative enough to incentivize workers staying home?

Possibly the increased demand for low end optics for new gun owners plays a role. Slow down production on the quality lines and step it up on the budget end.

How about slow international shipping of parts creating a backlog for parts? That’s all I can think of offhand.

My guess is folks are just fully equipping their new stuff. I know personally I've also been buying gear like slings and WMLs and need a new optic for my EPC and would like an RMR. I don't like having guns that are missing the basics or require canibalizing parts from other builds in order to shoot (e.g., I have more uppers than I have BCGs). After a certain number of stripped lowers in the safe, you kind of start buying other stuff.

Could be, but I've also noticed higher end stuff is hard to find, Razor 1-10's, NF Optics, as well as Aimpoints and EoTechs, but that could be like what Phil mentioned, supply chain disruptions.

I agree, I outfit all of my guns completely... well most of them anyway. I don't want to re-zero or have firearms not setup ready to go.

Well, I don't think it's the poors who are driving the prices this high.

What does surprise me is that there really hasn't been a run on mags. If you need imported "high capacity" magazines, I'd suggest you cover that base now.

Back when I was on the hunt for a Razor 1-10, Vortex was saying the hold up was Asia. I believe NF is having the same issues, along with their DoD contract they recently won. When I was contemplating getting another ATACR a few months ago, Sonny at NF confirmed they were back-logged 6 months, and didn't argue when I was supposed that it was due to their contract. (Also, sadly, FDE is not available, even for mil/LE purchasing...rats).

Yeah anyone who imports optics from Asia (pretty much everyone) is having a hell of time with backorders. Plus the US ports are understaffed due to covid and container ships are sitting waiting to be unloaded for weeks. Also raw material are hard to get so that’s an added factor. The appliance world is going through the same thing, my great uncle owns a furniture store and he has over a million in inventory sitting on a ship waiting to be processed.

That's a good deal. Been seeing some RMR's pop up under $500, but not too often under $450, and when they do, they're the 1 MOA version.

They have hella good prices on almost all their RMR's. Pick your dot size, you'll find something around 430-ish bones. Heck, there's some going for $370. Of course that's with a 13 MOA dot! [BD]

Yeah I've been watching that too. If people just stop buying at high prices it will drive the price down because they wont want to sit on inventory. I think availability is getting much better but our currency is being devalued so much that prices on everything are going up. So, we have a bad Supply v Demand issue with a heavy inflationary overlay that makes it hard to tell which is worse.

Going on business day 5 since receiving a shipping notice (shipping label created and invoice saying "Shipped") and still no delivery to UPS. I sent an email yesterday and awaiting a response. I've placed several orders with other companies recently. I had the exact same issue. Just seemed like a really slow roll to get products out the door. I got them (eventually) but it left a bad taste in my mouth. In other instances I got a shipping notification but the tracking said something like 'pending acceptance' or something like that. Not even two days later my stuff was delivered to me.

It seems like shipping is a roll of the dice these days.

Their own website says if you haven't seen any tracking data 48 hours after receiving a shipping notice you should email them. They also imply a one-business day response on email.

They responded to the email yesterday so the 24 hour turnaround was true. I had previously emailed them about receiving the FFL and never got a response other than the automated shipping notice (which was good enough for me). Regardless, apparently it was finally picked up yesterday by UPS. Why it took that long, I don't know. I get the feeling that AU was kind of a side hustle that got popular, but maybe I'm wrong.

You can call all you want, but it goes straight to the automated message and there's no VM. But they did answer the email and UPS shows it moving, so all is good now. The next wicket will be to see what I actually get (NOS, new stock, etc).

Just a general question (or thought) for you. I'm definitely not familiar with the new law that passed but I am wondering how they can enforce that kind of thing.

It obviously doesn't ban ownership of the mags so in that context how would they even know if your mags were pre ban or not?

It seems to me that it would pretty much just impact online sales and in theory stop companies from shipping directly to a residence.

It's not so much a question about buying mags but rather getting a better feel of that law from people who are impacted by it and who are watching it more closely.

For your line of work it's probably safer than sorry I would imagine.

11B the poorly written law states that you can't "import" them. The intent, of course, is that you can't carry them over the state line, but even WA law treats "import" to mean from a different country. And I believe they put a provision in at the last minute that residents can bring a mag back to the state if they took it out of state, but they can't "import" new ones. To Alamo's point, possession will be pretty much unenforceable but merchants won't be able to sell.

Besides, most LEO in this state, at least in western Washington (or any Blue county), won't enforce ANY misdemeanor because the local governments treat them like crap and don't prosecute anything.

Joelski
13 March 2022, 07:32
It seems that with over 60% of the nation's Counties having some form of Second Amendment Sanctuary status, this law is meaningless grandstanding and more of a way to open the worm can than anything truly enforceable. Those changes and add-ons were to achieve a semblance of conformity with the Constitution and cracking down any more will land it in the Supreme Court even sooner.

This is the same path CA went down. They first banned imports of magazines (as defined by the PC), but people still shipped in repair kits. CA started going after out of state retailers for that (yes, CA was exceeding its jurisdiction, but that's nothing new. They do it with fees and taxes, as well). Finally CA banned OWNERSHIP of magazines, regardless of prior possession. Freedom Week obviously made a mess of things, and a final decision on the law is still awaiting final adjudication.

Many mags have date codes on them, which is how you can technically claim they were pre-ban. But as you said, that doesn't actually mean people will abide by the law.

UWone77

gator is 100% right.

It doesn't matter what the wording is, it doesn't matter if it's enforceable or not (it's definitely not) this law effectively jams the democrat foot into the doorway. Give it a few more years and grandfathering will be taken away, and then they'll come after your scary rifles. They tried to ban "ghost guns" this sessions as well, but that didn't get enough traction.

I won't be enforcing this, neither will any of the other LEO's I work with. The jails here don't accept misdemeanors except for domestic issues, even low level-mid level felonies are cite and release like Residential and Commercial Burglaries. How'd you like for someone to break into your house, get away, get apprehended later, only to be told that the suspect was just given a stern talking to and the threat of a future summons being sent to their non-existent address?

Last year my unit confiscated 4 converted F/A's during the course of unrelated investigations. The prosecutors did not charge, and the ATF/Feds had no interest. Where do you think laws like this will be in terms of being enforced in the pecking order? Like I said though, this is just step 1 in a bigger plan to grab your guns under the guise of public safety and "common sense" gun laws.

Wow, I'm surprised no one was interested in going after NFA violations. That seems like a nice juicy conviction.

It just goes to show the intentions and/or piss poor management.

If there is one thing I can say about the cops (in general) in my specific area is that typically if you are a generally good person they will let a lot of things slide (provided that it's not creating a danger, ie going 75mph through a school zone or beating up your girlfriend). I've seen the ones here talk to people and basically say, 'we know you and every time we get a call it's remarkable how many times you are present at whatever disturbances there are...now someone called because there was a fight and yes you do have a black eye, but you are the one going to jail today...' (the dude was present [on the wrong side] at something like 16 different disturbance calls over the past few months)

I say that because 'in general' the top people have the guy on the street's back. When it comes to brass tacks they try to focus on the people that start or create problems and don't bother at all with these social changey things like mag bans or whatever. Yes of course they will give out frivolous speeding tickets as well, but in general that's an exception rather than the norm, at least in my area.

That being said recovering TWO actual machine guns, especially in light of the other criminal activity attached to the owners of those, and declining to prosecute the whole thing tells me that it's not the cops but rather the politicians that are the problem.

Regarding all these mag bans... not just in WA. I wonder if a company would make a follower for standard mags that would technically limit the round capacity to 10 rounds...'on paper' they should still be able to sell those mags in these ban states...I would imagine.

If people purchased a separate follower to 'standardize' their mags that would be up to them...I am wondering if that could ever become a thing...

All they would really have to do is buy a ton of mags, make the capacity limited follower for said mag brand, then go on their way. Or if they could just sell parts, like a mag body or whatever and then have your friend open up another online store for mag springs, or floor plates, or whatever...

I would think someone has probably tried that or something similar to that in California....

Blocked mags are already very much a thing, be it "home made" or commercially manufactured.

The way around the original magazine ban in CA was similar to what (I think) you were saying. The law essentially said you can't buy a new axe. But you can buy a new axe handle and new axe head. So vendors would take existing conventional mags, open up the bag and pop the base plate off so the mag was "sprung" and then ship it into CA. Now they haven't shipped a magazine, but shipped a parts kit. Many vendors did this, but PSA became notorious for it in the CA DoJ and CA went after them (and a couple others).

Eventually a new law was passed that was an outright ban on ownership.

Heh, I left that for you... they asked me if I wanted a MARS, and I'm like ehhhh, kind of but I don't need it. Surprised it lasted that long.

Not sure who all reloads but RMR redesigned their 9mm bullet to create a new expanding hollow point. The price is under .11 cents per bullet depending on how many you buy. That includes free shipping. I bought a bunch of their regular MPR but I just picked up a thousand of these as well to test out.

Basically these bullets are jacketed hollow points and are cheaper than any other plated or FMJ 9mm bullets that I have found (other than pure cast lead bullets). Berry's plated round nose bullets for example are over .12 cents per bullet.

Fortunately I made use of MidSouthShooters sale on Berrys…115gr plated are still 9 cents each right now.

I haven't found anything that comes close to RMR for pistol bullets. Their 115gr FMJ bullets can be had for a little over 9 cents per bullet and that includes shipping. By the time you include shipping from MidSouth (or almost anyone else) the price comes out the exact same. The difference to me is I think RMR is a vastly superior bullet at the same price point. It's FMJ vs plated. They have definitely earned my business. Their price to value ratio is better than anything I've seen from anyone. MidSouth is selling plated bullets on sale at that price and RMR has that price every single day (even after recent price increases).

I probably have 6,000 plated bullets left to work through not including what I have loaded already, but I have been stocking up on RMR. I probably have 10K or 12K or more of them already. I bought several thousand of the RMR 124 MPR not long ago but I would have just bought all RMR Nukes had they been available at that time. Either way though it's just for practice ammo so it isn't hurting anything. I bought the nukes to test out. If I go out on a night time pig hunt or something it would be nice to have those for my sidearm.

I buy the 124 grain bullets because I like to practice with the same grain weight as my carry ammo. I work up a load that has similar velocity and POI so I can keep everything consistent. I bought a bunch of the 147 grain bullets too though, for subsonics.

I've never tried their 69 grain rifle bullets. I still have several thousand Sierra 69gr bullets, but I have been wanting to try the RMR version. Next time I place an order I might throw in a few to test out.

I wish someone like RMR though would make a simple heavy .308 bullet for 300 BLK. That would be really nice if they did. I don't need a bullet designed for ELR that costs .55 to .75 cents per bullet to shoot for blackout subs. Something simple and cheap would be awesome.

If you want to clear out some plated bullets to buy some of their FMJs just holler. I was going to make a decent sized order in a couple weeks…unfortunately I can’t do it all in one place or at one time anymore due to availability and wanting to shop for price since I’m trying to bulk buy these days. MSS has about the best price on 77gr and 168gr SMKs (6-7cents per bullet less and that adds up) i can’t justify buying anywhere else unless on sale….and hazmat purchases are just all over the map

alamo5000

If you want to clear out some plated bullets to buy some of their FMJs just holler.

Thanks for the offer. I've probably shot almost all plated bullets for 10 years or so. Absolutely nothing wrong with them but if you can get jacketed bullets for the same price, why not?

I will shoot through all of the plated bullets eventually. Shipping that many bullets is going to be expensive.

I have more bullets than primers at this point but I'm still going to be buying components to build up my stash. Every so often I will get some powder and bullets. If primers ever get back to normal I will probably get 50k or 100k of each small rifle/pistol. I have about 7k-8k of each left. That doesn't include already primed brass which probably adds 3k-4k each to my totals.

The P322 mags have been OOS everywhere until about...today. So, yeah, GB brings out the gougers, but I saw that people where bidding them up that high, too, so you can't really blame the seller for that.

I've actually gotten some fantastic deals on GB, including a full P320 lower/frame/FCU for cheaper than I can buy an FCU parts kit and even managed to pick up my P322 for cheaper than PSA is selling them for. I even "accidently" bought a G19 Gen 5 MOS a year or two ago because I put in a low-ball bid that I was sure would lose, but didn't. Just like any auction, you just have to be patient and let things go when the price exceeds what you are willing to pay. But, yeah, there is some cray cray BIN pricing there....

I don't know how much of a 'deal' it is, but I found some CCI 40gr subsonic 22LR for $8.99 per box of 100. Shipping was $11.95 and there was no tax.

The normal price on these is $13.99 per box of 100.

I bought 1,500 rounds of it to test out. I have several thousand rounds of .22LR ammo of various flavors already, but I am down to not that much subsonic so I figure why not try these out. Reviews say they will cycle a semi auto. The total to the door cost was 9.7 cents per round which was cheaper than most of the alternatives, especially once you start figuring out tax and shipping.

I like the looks of those and have been tempted. Inline Fabrication makes a base plate for them for their QD bench system. The price is what holds me back given that I can generally do everything I need with my existing vice, barrel block, reaction rod, and delrin upper / lower blocks. Plus it does look a little anemic for torqueing / removing MDs, at least compared to my very stout 4" Wilton. The times I wish I had one of these are when I'm working on something besides an AR. If working on guns was an actual gig for me I'm sure I'd have one of these, though.

If working on guns was an actual gig for me I'm sure I'd have one of these, though.

I am definitely going to get a plate from Inline. That's the original plan all along. I have a bunch of stuff from Inline. The QD mount, their wall organizer, etc. I like it a lot and it looks clean as can be. I will be buying more relatively soon.

The only vice I have now is in an outdoor work area where we weld or do other things. It can get messy/dirty out there in a hurry. This one will be indoors in my reloading room. It will also double as a cleaning station once I get this set up. I might even be able to use it for other things non gun related which would be an unrelated bonus. Also I don't have a reaction rod so that's a big upgrade from delrin upper blocks and 1/2 a roll of masking tape.

I read a bunch on the strength of this vice. If you look at the video above it has a solid pin that can hold it in place in various positions. According to the manufacturer it will hold up to 80 ft/lbs of torque when you use that pin. That's somewhere in the neighborhood of almost triple the torque specs on any muzzle device.

I also like that on the plastic jaws it has channels for barrels or whatever.

Yes these are expensive vs say a Harbor Freight generic vice, but it can do a bunch of other stuff that they can't. In my experience just buying a nice thing once has gotten me better results than buying something else then trying to upgrade...so I just splurged a bit. Also considering this will last me years and years, hopefully it will see a fair amount of use in not only firearms, but possibly other generic household use.

Flippers are great for the guys that have to have it right now. They can keep their scalped side hustler parts IMO, but that's just me.

How's the accuracy with the 4 prong? I had a three and accuracy was iffy out of a CHF Geissele FN barrel. I went back to the closed tine shortly after. My guess is something happened to the harmonics. I heard the fours were better at this.

my understanding and what you'll see repeated on many gun forums is that the 4-prong is just the older design that made it through the procurement system before SF came out with the 3 prong design which SF holds to be the better product. Hence UW's statement that the only real reason to get a 4 prong is if you want to clone. But the cloners were paying $200-$400 for these because they were hard to get since SF didn't sell them direct to the civilian market. I can't imagine there is much performance difference.

The flash performance was documented by SF as being better with the three prong.

I've never read of accuracy degradation between the two, but I suppose it might be possible. I do have degraded accuracy when I shoot my Centurion Arms MK12 with my AEM5. When I take it off (or when it used to wear a SF can), the group closes up.

Midway has Gold Dot bullets in stock and on sale. Picked up some 62 and 75gr which I hadn't seen available for quite a while.

I really wanted to try out some 75 grainers but they were all gone before I could get there. I did though buy some 62's. I am curious as to what kind of velocities I can get out of my 10.5.

I have several thousand 75 grain Hornady bullets, so if I can pick up some 75 grain gold dot bullets and/or ammo I would consider switching from the 77 grain that I use now. I could have a single zero and not have to mess around because I could just make everything about the same.

That being said I am not sure about the velocities of factory SPEER ammo out of 10.5 in barrel. If I recall the SPEER factory ammo is pretty anemic especially out of a short barrel. Which would mean I would either stick with my 77's or use my handloads for home defense.

That's somewhat tempting as I have a Mega Receiver set that I always kind-of wanted to put a wedgelok on because I like things to be all matchy-matchy. The added weight and cost over the BCM rail always kept me from it, though.

I was tempted too as I also have a Mega upper/lower set. But I just finished an expensive build and need to carefully plan what to make my last three lowers into.

MN state defacto registration went into effect today so my revolver purchase yesterday may be the last ever unless I di di mau from here.

Check out Optics Planet for Vortex Razor Gen II 3-18x50 on sale for $1139 + coupon code SCPRDT makes in $968. That's a fantastic deal. I think I paid $1,200 for a used one earlier this year and was happy to do so. Great scopes if you don't mind the heft. Makes me suspect Vortex is about to release a mid range Gen III.
