Interesting never saw they had a railed frame 1911 on the market until now. I haven't kept up to date on 1911 stuff in a year or so though. For the price those are going to be really hard to beat I would imagine. Comparable Springfield is going to run you 1k plus.

So with Ballistic advantage having their summer sale I've been eyeing a barrel for the umbrella build. Looking around I noticed the 17.7" Hanson barrel. Can anyone, or BA, comment on this barrel?

Edit: went ahead and ordered it. So if I'm the first I'll post my findings once I get my build done. Which all I need now is the rail.

I bought the 16" Hanson. I should be building my rifle in the next 6-8 weeks. I'll get my more experienced friends to help me with a report.

On a side note, how much lighter is a forged upper/lower than a billet set? I have thought about doing my SBR from a forged set...and try to set out to do a 'more lightweight' SBR...Honestly before I start buying stuff I would like to have the whole build thought out in my head. If I don't then the next thing you know I will be up to my eyeballs in stuff and someone will do a hoarders episode about me.

On a side note, how much lighter is a forged upper/lower than a billet set? I have thought about doing my SBR from a forged set...and try to set out to do a 'more lightweight' SBR...Honestly before I start buying stuff I would like to have the whole build thought out in my head. If I don't then the next thing you know I will be up to my eyeballs in stuff and someone will do a hoarders episode about me.

That (for me) would be an interesting concept. A light weight (or lighter weight) SBR... since the idea behind an SBR is all about handling and running around and shooting from the shoulder I would think both weight and balance would be really important. I obviously don't know for sure, but it sounds plausible.

To me the weight of the receivers is something that you will not notice, but I'm not a fan of ultra light weight rifles. On a SBR weight and balance don't usually end up being an issue due to using a shorter barrel. If anything you may want the additional weight back there to counter the weight of a suppressor. I would use the money towards finishing the CMT.

I love my hanson barrel! I mean it comes with a pinned GB which worth a good premium by itself. It's one of those you dont have a lot to loose deals, but I'd bet you'd be happily suprised!

A couple of years ago I read online about RRA 2-stage triggers starting to double. After reading about it, I took note and said whatever (I didn't own any). Then a month or two later, I was at an action rifle competition and sure enough, a shooter running a RRA 2-stage started having his rifle double. He was a good shooter and knew how to work a rifle, so don't think it was an inadvertent bump fire (it actually happened two different times).

I don't know if RRA changed anything, but just FYI for those that may care and worry about such things.

Yeah I'm sure it wouldn't. Magpul products typically 30% margins, so if you gave up another 20% on top of APEX you'd be giving it away.
