Gen 3 mags will work with HK guns (think: IAR). Gen 2 won't. Gen 2s will work just fine in regular AR-15 designs.

I have an unopened case of Gen 3 mags already but you never know...

Gen3 PMAGs use a different formula polymer, but i think i read someplace that the current production Gen2 mags are now made of the same material. Gen3 mags have more aggressive texture on the front and back of the mag body to help you get a better grip should you need to rip it out of the gun, they have some little dot matrix on them so you can mark your mags, and they have an over-insertion stop on them (which i needed to grind off on some 20 rounders, as they prevented the mags from seating in an early Gen 2 Noveske lower). The gen3 PMAGs also include the little dust cover thingy that gets lost the first time you take it off a mag at the range. The Gen3 mags are supposed to be a better mag in just about every way. But i've bought plenty on Gen 2 PMAGs since the Gen3s came out because i've never had a problem with them in any of my guns and they can be found cheaper. Buy as many as you can for $9 now, and sell them for $50 in a few months. [BD]

For a very very specific case, Gen 2's will not drop free out of a Tavor while a Gen 3 will. They have slightly different geometries.

Gen 3's also have a small dot matrix near the floorplate if you want to have an ID system for your mags.

The ribbing on Gen 3's, IMO, are much more pronounced than on Gen 2's.

At first glance you might not be able to visually tell the difference, but if you put the two side by side, you'll see the difference.

I'm definitely biased towards a factory 308, but I couldn't be happier with my LMT MWS. It has functioned perfectly from day one.

Meanwhile I have friends struggling with AR10 builds, who have spent just as much money swapping out parts trying to troubleshoot. They could have gotten a LMT MWS in the first place and their range trips would involve shooting instead of tinkering.

I ordered one as my very first piece of reloading gear, so I'm not an expert (I'm not even a novice yet!). However, the Forster Co-Ax is very popular with bench rest / long range shooters becuase the floating dies are self-centering and are supposed to produce the least amount of runout of all presses, plus the dies are super quick to swap out, making its efficiency more like a turret press instead of a single state. Read the reviews and apply your Google-fu skills. Midway had the price at $263 late last week (which is a great price), $245 on Friday (when I ordered mine) and now $236. It will be interesting to see if they drop it any further.

That's exactly it. If you want a normal size backpack, this is the way to go. If you use a shockwave, LOP doesn't matter much since the brace can be adjusted. But if you just want a long buffer tube, the folder with an A5 adds a lot. You can't shoulder a brace but I've read nothing about not shouldering a tube.

Heh. If you've ever been tracking cloners the going rate for M4A1 marked colts are $500-700 with M4 Carbine marked ones like this going for slightly less. If you're not into that I'd rather get a KAC lower

Initially, based off of what I researched, the Expanse lowers had "Colt M4 Carbine" roll marks. Then they didn't for a while. I'm not sure if they went back to that roll mark. My particular lower had all of the Expanse properties, to include non-USGI hammer, non-USGI trigger (which I literally just discovered today when replacing it with a G-trigger), non-Colt machining (tough to prove, but none-the-less a thing), etc.

The word on the internet (there's a M4C thread about it) was that initially the Expanse rifles had "M4 Carbine" roll marks but were machined in TX. Then the Expanse lowers got a different less-than-Colt roll mark. It seems that Arms Unlimited (and I'm sure others) took complete Expanse rifles and split them up so the could sell various parts. I have a Colt bolt that also seems to have come from an Expanse upper, based on all of the evidence.

The whole thing is frustrating, but wasn't worth my time trying to prove to a vendor. And at the end of the day, the lower fits as good as or better than my other known-Colt lowers, so meh.

I'm not surprised by this. I know that Expanse guns were being stripped down for M4 Carbine Lowers, as I was thinking about doing the same thing. Buying a couple of Expanse guns so I could keep the lowers and dump the lowers to recoup some of my money. However, like you mentioned they quit having the M4 Carbine roll marks and I couldn't find a reliable dealer that would check the markings for me. I ended up forgetting that idea and moved on to other things.

Reminds me of the Colt Competition guns that weren't actually Colts.
