The German company Nobilta-TWM has decided to manufacture a complete AR-15ish rifle, called the SLG36/15 (SLG stands for Selbstladegewehr or "self/autoloading rifle") referring to the HK G36 and the AR15 who's caracteristics are used is this new concept.

The upper & lower receiver in the raw:

It's piston operated (hence the G36 reference):

Apart from what I could read on their homepage, I have no further info on pricing, availability, performance etc.
Oh yeah, it should become available in 223 Rem, 6.8 SPC and 6.8 Grendel.

Link to their homepage (unfortunately only in German)

I also noticed that they're producing milspec AR15 lowers at a MSRP of 375 Eurodollars (that's about $545 at today's exchange rates). http://www.twm-waffen.de/produ...ten/lower/index.html (http://www.twm-waffen.de/produkte/komponenten/lower/index.html)

The upper has a stamped appearance, odd that they would make it squared off. I don't see that handguard as being comfortable, but I would guess this is geared only toward civilian shooters and the recreational market of Germany.

Well the "softening" of German gunlegislation wrt "assault" rifles has opened a nice nichemarket I guess.
I can understand the idea about wanting to combine the caracteristics of two nice platforms (piston of the G36 and AR-15 lower/looks).
Had they gone for a closer AR15 look, I think they'd have a real seller, especially since they only have Oberland Arms, Sabre Defense and HK as AR manufacturers / sellers.
My guess for the hidious look is that they didn't want to infringe on any HK416/MR223 patents.
But that's just my 2 eurocents.

Looks like something from WWII.

Looks like a AR-18/AR-180 style upper on a AR-15 lower. Might be decent mechanically but needs to have a bit of asthetic refinement.

It may very well be a fine rifle...but compared to our AR's...it just doesn't do much for me.
