Just found the site recently and really like the layout. Been a pistol shooter and training for personal defense for 20 years but I am new to the AR platform. I picked up a cheap Oly carbine that had some issues and intended to fix it and re-sell pretty quick but along the way I got the dreaded BRD. The receivers are about all that is left from that rifle. I just got a new unfired Colt 6721 upper in a trade and haven't decided if I want to trade it off for what I really want or try some of that Colt coolaid. I am here to learn, to help, and to share. Thanks for having me.

Greetings everyone, I'm glad to be a new member of a group of like minded people. By like minded people, I mean people who are bitter clingers to God and guns, who love this great country, who value its history, who honor all those who serve and protect us, who cherish and promote family values. I come to these forums to glean information and to learn from you all and occasionally share my 2 cents.

Mike, savoy5

Couldn't have said that better myself.

I've been lurking on the site for awhile now, I figured now would be a good time to join and introduce myself.
I'm ex-Army from the "Clinton Era" and that was about as far as the extent of my training went, but this past January I finally purchased an AR and reignited my passion for firearms.
There has been a monumental leap in training and tactics as compared to over 15 years ago when I was taught, I want to shake of the rust and hopefully relearn some new things.
I have been working in the Sewn Nylon Gear industry for almost 11 years now and since the "New Ideas" of training and tactics has changed, and it seems like it is always evolving, that gear will always evolve and change with it too.

HI All,

FNG here. I live in the Denver metro area and recently decided that I don't shoot enough and need to improve my skill set as I consider firearm ownership to be a huge responsibility and not to be taken lightly. I am taking a defensive pistol course in December with my wife followed by a CCW application for both of us just to get the ball rolling. I also decided that I needed an AR and some training to boot as well as some competitive shooting to make spending the money on rounds that much easier.

Once i decided that an AR was in my future I started looking for all credible information I could find and then I found Wevo. I really appreciate the no-nonsense approach you guys take on this forum, the obvious experience of it's members and the lack of bickering about who's AR is better and why someone else doesn't know what they are talking about. It is very refreshing to say the least.

I especially appreciate seeing threads from guys who have been shooting for a long time still talking about "hard use" and "durability" and instead of just assuming, actually building what is talked about and putting it through the paces. You can't find a better approach to real world data nor put a price on it unless you have a ton of money and free time to do that yourself. [:D]

I will have a lot of questions for a while and hope to contribute in a positive fashion on Wevo someday but I promise you won't find me offering opinions on subjects I know nothing about. In the meantime I want to thank everyone who has already been kind enough to point me in the right direction on my upcoming build. I promise to post plenty of range reports, new AR build porn as it happens and drool over all the other beautiful toys I see posted.

Hello All,
Name's David, stumbled across this forum while planning my SPR build. Hopefully my post in the "explain your setup" thread will be approved soon. I just assembled my first upper receiver, and will likely be doing this more often. Building a dedicated stripped lower for my new Mk12 Mod 0 inspired upper will be the next step. I spent 4 years in the Marines as an 8152/0311, did guard duty but got to spend plenty of ammunition training on MP-5's, M4s, M9s, M16A2s, and the M1014. Also got to do the MP-5 armorers course at the Sterling, VA facility and was taught by none other than Bob Schultz. I love to shoot, and would love to find out if anyone up here in the Northern Virginia area has anywhere they shoot outdoors at ranges beyond 100 yards, ie private land or such. I'm also looking forward to diving into reloading, for if I get a 6.5 Grendel upper and for my 6.5 Swede Mauser.

Well, I've been a member here for a couple of months but haven't chimed in. I've never been one to post on forums for fear of starting a fight [BD] But I'm pretty sure the folks here at WEVO aren't the kind that get bent out of shape simply because you have a differing opinion. So far all I've seen is a good group who are interested in hearing honest opinions - differing views and perspectives being welcomed.

So I'll try to contribute. Please keep in mind that I'm not LEO or military. All I can do is give my sincere evaluation of how things work for me. I'm not ashamed to admit when I do something stupid. The problem is that when I'm being stupid, I may not know it. So please tell me when you think I'm making a mistake.

I've always been a handgun guy. I've also always been left eye dominant, so I never really liked rifles. Well I sucked it up and started shooting lefty. It was weird at first but I made the adjustment. I only recently got bit by the AR bug (about 2 years ago). I started off with a DD M4v2. It looks a bit different now.

I'm finishing up a 6.5 Grendel build. Before you chastise me for being stupid by not building a 6.8, please note that it will likely be my next build. I did research the 6.5 vs 6.8, and in the end I determined that the 6.5 guys love them, and there's no convincing the 6.8 guys that a 6.5 is better. So why not have both? Then I'll decide for myself.

Anyway...glad to be on board. PM me if you want. I'll try to post some information on my build in the appropriate thread.

Steve here. Just joined yesterday. I gotta confess I'm just a civvie. Never had the opportunity to serve in the military, or as a LEO. My hat's off to those here who have served, or are now serving. Have had an interest in firearms ever since I was in a hold-up on the job as a grocery clerk in San Diego back in 1987. Had a S&W 686 stuck in my face for the 2 mins(longest couple of minutes in my life!) it took the armed assailant to rob 8 registers, taking me along to open each one.
I'm living in NorCal now, and found out 2 years ago we here in the PRK can own ARs if configured 'legally'. So now I own an AR! Although I belong to a few other weapons sites, WEVO is incredibly well put together. I wish I had known about y'all two years ago when I started my build. This is definitely the go-to site for weapons info. I'll be here often. Here and at Calguns...'cause I live in Cali;(.

Hey scholarly armorers :) Or armed scholars...

I don't usually participate in forums, but I like the group here. I've seen pretty much every staff member here on other forums, and I figured I'd follow the fountain back to the source. Dunno if I have much to contribute to this group, given that my experience is almost completely military (Active Duty Army, and dug in like a tick). Within just the last year, I've began to branch out into the civilian personal defense world, and am enjoying being able to experiment on my own terms.

In terms of non-issued weapons, I own an XDm .40 which I very much enjoy. I'm just now building my first AR-15, and am looking at picking up a .38 or .357 revolver for Mrs. Cannon Fodder. I'm also considering purchasing a smaller CCW, perhaps a Ruger LCP.

You sure hid it well enough. LOL.

I usually don't reveal much about myself on the internet.

I will just say I am ex law enforcement. My claim to fame was to convince my department to write their procurement specifications so that a top tier manufacturer like Colt would get their AR15 order, instead of a bottom tier manufacturer.

Other than that, I believe in pursuing the best quality in firearms, and that's why I joined this site and M4Carbine.net.

I know that I have been a member for a bit now. And have made several posts before this one. Just wanting to say hello and take my hat off to the staff and some of the senior members here. It is quite obvious that you guys walk the walk, as it is a part of your daily duties in your "real world" professions to do so, and how refreshing it is to know that and see that in your work here. The advice and critiques here are very sound and can be assured that its coming from first hand, real life experience and wisdom, not just some lame regurgitation of the same ol' same ol' that some misinformed individual read somewhere and decided to take it as his own personal experience and opinion.
I literally re-read some threads and pick up on things that I missed before. The staff here is truly dedicated to this lifestyle and very well rounded. I cant even imagine the combined years of experience you all have together.
Anyway, Im just your average joe who is a firearms enthusiast and has been all my life. And as of late, I have chosen the AR-15 platform for my primary defensive system. It feels good to know that a place like Weapons Evolution is around so I can lurk and soak up some good down to earth references for the system and a lot of other systems as well.
Anyway, back to lurking. Just wanted to say thank you for all your time and effort to bring a forum like this to the public.

I know of some of the staff here from other sites and have only good things to say about them and how they conduct themselves there. So you see it was a no brainer to join here as I am knowledgeable on some subjects but always aim to improve myself further. Goes with the ole Brain is the deadliest weapon theme. A quick shout out to AC and Stick you guys are my inspiration to be better informed internet user and I really want to help new people with a great hobby and tool for home and homeland protection. If you guys ever need an apprentice look no further as I am more than willing. All I ask in return is to play with some of those goods you got.

Anyways a little about myself. My name is Matt I'm from Sturgis, located in the beautiful Black hills of South Dakota. Currently winding down my 5 yr enlistment (adventure) in the US Army with the 82nd Airborne Div. I have served with them for all of my career in a RSTA (reconnaissance, surveillance, target acquisition) unit as an infantry scout observer, senior scout observer, sniper, sniper team leader, sniper section leader, weapons platoon sergeant which I am currently as an E5 (Buck SGT :) ) until Aug when I will be getting out. Hopefully to pursue a career with Triple Canopy. I grew up in a very gun friendly part of the country. I try to Bird hunt whenever I can but will always settle for just getting rounds down range no matter what grain it is. I have experience in quite a few different forms of firearms from 50BMG Anti Material weapons to Bows. I by no means know everything about them but can help a beginner or two. I have hopes to one day open a gun shop/manufacture as it has been my dream since I was little.

ETA I forgot to say thanks for you all being here to share and letting me be a part of your site.

Hey everyone!
Like Ghost, I am also a long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks for such a great, informative site! The amount of information here, without all the BS found elsewhere, is refreshing to say the least. I feel like it is similar to a secret fishing spot, one that all the mouth-breathers haven't found yet. I promise I wont tell!

I see a couple of US Army brethren here, that's good.

I'm an 11A currently in the USAR with C Troop, 2/107 ACR. Sometime in the next 6-12mo. I'll be transferring to active duty, and PCSing to 1/187 down at Ft. Campbell, as soon as I finish up a few school reqs.

I've spent the last five years as a member of Xeros Services, with a couple of part time contracts through Triple Canopy. I spent several years as a PSD operator and then team leader/supervisor for US DoS officals in a wide locale between Kabul and Bagram. It was Fun (TM), but it was great, and I got to do a lot of cool stuff. Also probably one of the hardest jobs you can ever do, especially in light of the Blackwater issues in Iraq. We were under a lot of scrutiny and if we effed up, there was no passing the buck as "collateral damage due to war". We were fired, and probably going to prison. I am now CONUS, spending most of my time teaching Chair Forcies... sorry... Air Forcies... how to not shoot themselves with an M4, and how to last more than 2 mikes in an engagement. Which for quite a few of them is very hard to do. I am intimately familiar with the AR platform, and know just enough to get myself into trouble.

Cool, I'll do that. First posts with links is a red flag and not the first impression I wanted to set. I'll post a few links I have been reading up on. Some are treatment facilities and some are random internet posts about Cryo.

Anyways this forum seems like a cool one. I'd talk about myself more like people tend to do in these intro threads but who cares anyways :)

It was just you and us in the whole entire country for awhile. No CC. Now it's just us. Man, you can't understand how upset I am. Criminals have all the fun :( IL is supposed to vote on it (carry concealed) again in Feb 2012 (just in time for the end of the world LOL).

What part of WI? I often shoot at Bristol. I tried McMillers and liked it, wish it were closer.

I'm in Milwaukee. I typically shoot local indoor range (predominantly a pistol shooter). Its a busy life with sports, grad school and work but next summer I'll be joining a club in Muskego for league and multi-gun shoots. McMillers is nice but its a ways for me too.

Keep voting, you're bound to get there someday!

I guess I'll throw out a few words to introduce myself.

I'm currently 18, turning 19 next month, and live in Houston, Texas. As of about a year ago, I'm an Eagle Scout. I've been involved in firearms heavily since I was about 14. My first three years of high school I entered science fair projects on various terminal ballistics topics. All three were very successful. An article I wrote when I was 16, based on research I did when I was 15, was published in the Guns & Ammo Book of the AK47 2010 edition when I was 17. Not too bad for a snot-nosed kid. My last project resulted in Rice University offering me $5000 to attend their engineering program.

A business class I took during the second semester of my junior year got me a position at a local gun store. After the class I ended up staying with the company through that summer, worked every Friday and Saturday of my senior year, and worked most of this summer. As of now, I'm "retired" and just doing a bit of vacationing before I move to Utah next week for college.

My classes are currently split between those of a mechanical engineering major and a business major. Mechanical engineering has been my intention for a while, but since my real dream is to own and operate my own gun store someday a degree in business may actually be more appropriate. I'm far enough ahead due to AP classes that I have the luxury of taking classes from both fields to see what I like.

I'm very long-winded and enjoy a heated discussion at times. Understandably, I can get quite irate with people who dismiss me due merely to my age while ignoring my credentials.

My goal for the rest of this year is to not flunk out of college (that's the priority), and to try to do a little more shooting. At work I was always the guy who would rather take it apart than shoot it.

I think I've run out of things to carry on about. This is a great forum, and it never ceases to amaze me how knowledgeable the average contributor here is. Lot higher class of people than you see on most forums.

Thanks.

Most of my reading and a few questions will probably be directed towards the NFA forum as I am looking to build either a 10.5 or 11.5" canned SBR for fun. It will be my first build, and I'm looking forward to learning from the experts.

Hello WeVo members,

As Arnold would say, "He's Back"!

CD DEFENSE is back on the market! After going out of business two years ago, I've started a new company, Trans World Arms LLC, that will bring CD DEFENSE AR's, new tactical and home defense shotguns and new pistols to the market. We should start shipping in the next 60-90 days.

The new website is not ready yet but hopefully it will be completed and online right after SHOT Show. And yes, we will be exhibiting at SHOT so if any of you are attending the show, please stop by our booth if you have the time.

Hoping to interact with old and new WeVo friends here.

Hello - New here. Have been shooting since about 12 years of age, Shot my first handgun and AR (old M16) When I joined the service in 1975. Been doing it since. My latest gun is a LMT, which I "attached" not buillt Bought Complete LMT Lower, Stripped LMT Upper Centurion Rails, Spikes Nickel Boron BCU, PRI "Gas Buster" CH, Buris MTAC W/Burris QD P.E.P.R. mounts, Larue Index Clips, Gear Sector Stops, and LaRue index clips. So far it's my favorite AR I've owned. Also shoot a lot of pistol. Did some IPSC and USPSA, but knees are about gone, so I'm pretty much done there. This looks like a very well informed and friendly forum. Thanks for allowing me in. Added...after further looking around, I've got to say that this is one of the most informative, if not the largest AR site on the web. Many times, I'll do a Bing or Google search concerning AR's and associated subjects, and this site pops up. It seems like people here are friendly, no B.S., and no horribly arrogant thrashing of people new to the AR platform, as I've seen in other forums. Truly refreshing. Thanks for a well ran, well moderated site. I truly appreciate the privelidge of being a member. Years after shooting the AR platform, I'm still always learning something new.

Found this site last year and appreciate all the information and great user reviews I find here. Many a review here steered me in a different direction in my AR builds. Yeah got addicted to building custom AR's from the ground up last year, but having to restrain myself with all the stuff that is available and the empty pocketbook. Goes back to my Jeep building days (building AR's is actually cheaper) and love to figure out how to do it all. Been shooting most of my life. First time was a .22 and I was 5, come from a long line of military and sportsmen/sportswomen, so not new to shooting in anyway, kind of like a family tradition.

Relatively new here, few posts but I have been stopping in to read when I can. Sadly it's blocked from work and that would be my most likely time to visit =D
Actually found this forum by stalking Stickman.. my photographic idol.

Former USAF, Army contact and gun enthusiast. I own my own web development business and work full time at a tier one supplier in Michigan as a purchasing director/Intranet developer.

Looking for someone with property to let me shoot =D Oddly enough my sandwiched cookie cuter subdivision and local Sherrifs department won't allow me to shoot on my property... something about safety, neighbors and sound ordnance... pfffft...=D

Greetings everyone! Been lurking around here for a little while. After being a member on one of the other boards, I got tired of all the so-called "experts". I like the atmosphere here and the knowledge base is excellent. I am a full-time LEO and run a small shop on the side. My son and I started Warrior Arms (http://www.warrior-arms.com) last fall. We hold a type 07 FFL and build and repair most firearms. We specialize in the AR15 platform, but love working on all kinds of platforms. We have a website where we sell parts and accessories and the uppers we build. Like I said, we are a small shop and constantly growing and evolving. Stop by our website and look around. Feel free to send any suggestions or feedback, I welcome both! Thanks for having us!

Hello to all. I was wondering if there was a welcome topic for the new guys. I've been a firearm guy my whole life but I've just started to build an AR rifle. I figure I better do it now before uncle Sam says its illegal, lol.

Hello everyone, just joined a few days ago, really enjoying the wealth of knowledge here. Had a few AR's a couple years ago, money trouble, you know the rest. Just put together a lower and picked up a Spikes carbine upper for it. Slowly rebuilding the ammo/mag stash while personalizing my weapon.

Hey, new here but not to shooting. Been shooting for awhile, mostly USPSA style matches and a really fun group here in North Carolina called the Zombie Shooting Association. Take the name with a grain of salt, its a really fun group using some a mix of USPSA and IDPA rules and you can't hit them on using the new hype around the whole "zombie" thing. I am active duty with the Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune, working in my units armory. Currently I only have my 1911 out here with me but building up my AR part by part.

LENCAD HERE> I arrived because of my mini 30 stainless steel purchased in 1995. And was searching for info from mini 30 users for deer hunting. I have a bolt action 270 with a great scope but most deer are close in and the 270 is over kill. Anyway while in viet nam I used the ar15 223 and it was fantastic if you are wondering about the date in country we were advisors sort of.

If there are any folks from field 9 at ft. walton beach I would love to share how it was being one of the first to land at Bien Hoa. With our WW 2 ventage planes.

I assume your AR15 platform is what we were issued back in 1961 it was fantastic for us back then but I read it had problems later must have been the army mud and such anyway I loved it but have never owned one. Now I use the ruger mini 30 as my main rifle it works for what I need.

I am a long time shooter/hunter. Not an expert by any means. I have several hand guns, including some black plastic ones, however my favorite is a COLT CCO Gunsite. I do prefer A 1911, and I am COLT fan. I am also a fan/follower of Jeff Cooper (R.I.P.) I have never been to the gunsite academy but hope to be able to take some training there someday. After A year of reading and saving up ($$$) I got my first AR/M4, back in sept. I am addicted. I am a member of M4c and Teaxsguntalk, I dont post much, I do read a lot. @ the time of this writing both of those sites are down. That is how i found this forum. At any rate, not sure how much ill be able to contribute but i will help out when i can. Oh the new AR? ..... COLT of course. I see some of the same user names here that i see on M4c, and i have to say that my choice for my first AR was made using a lot of info learned form the forums. I thank, those of you that spend your time and share your knowledge, here as well as there

Relatively new member here. I'm a civil; never had the privilege of serving in the military. I've been interested in defensive firearms for about 8 years. I recently picked up my second AR, a DD M4V3. My first was a RRA, purchased when I was less informed about the differences in AR manufacturer's quality.

Howdy,
just getting into the AR arena (midlife crisis/can now afford what I want). My tendencies are towards custom knives until recently. I like my 1911s and trips to the gun range.
Born, raised and plan on staying in Texas. I have been to half of America...just like it better here. I love Texas Summers...bring the heat!
I am mainly here to lurk as pitiful as it seems due to my own ignorance and need to learn before proving myself an idiot.

OK, I'll bite.

I'm a long time civilian shooter, but new to the world of AR15s. Mid-2012, I decided to build a rifle from individual parts to get acquainted with the platform. The engineer in me finds selecting and assembling role-specific components to be an appealing feature, even as I better learn the strengths and limitations of the platform. All in all, it was fun enough that I ended up building a couple of rifles, instead of just one, and I expect I'll submit an application for an SBR while it's still possible.

My initial research led me to this site when I started speccing parts. I got hooked when I found the folks here more well-informed and more rational than those I found on other sites. In particular, I found the "Explain your AR15 Layout" thread to be unique and extremely helpful. Pictures alone are fine, but it's the "why" and "then I did this...." that make that thread valuable.

Being a shutterbug, the eye candy on this site doesn't hurt either. Here's a vote of thanks to the people that spend the extra time on their images.

At any rate, when I tie up a couple of loose ends on the two new AR15's, I'll include a write-up for the "Explain" thread.

Cheers,
Rat.
