Been registered awhile but have yet to introduce yourself?

Well here’s your chance to drop a quick line or two and do just that!

I've been here a while just not much of a poster, you guys do such a good job of covering a topic it leaves me with very little to comment on.

I use to be on gun related websites all the time and over time found that they all were about the same in the offerings they have/had. This site seems to offer me a bit more, write ups are well done, photos are outstanding and the overall group seems to be well informed of the goings on in the weapon/gear/warfighting world.

Well done.

Hi,

I have just found this site, and I am very impressed with the quality of information here, especially the photos. I belong to a couple of similar sites, and the more information I can get the better.

Finally I registered, being a long-time lurker around here.

Hi guys,

my name is Mike and I'm from Germany.

Why am I here?

First of all I have a personal interest in guns, gear and affiliated equipment.
So this is the place to be.

After more than a decade in contact with the german side of the industry I was offered the position as technical editor for a german speaking publication that was established just a year ago by a friend of mine. Of course I accepted, helping him to get on track with his project - which is a lot of work but fun nonetheless.

We publish "Kommando - International Special Operations Magazine" which is distributed in german-speaking Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxemburg, Liechtenstein). We cover the worlds elite military and law enforcement special operation units in a high quality publication format, using mostly never-before-published, high quality imagery. As already said I hold the position as the technical editor of the magazine and specialize in doing features about armament, weapons and affiliated equipment.

Just a bit about my background:

My main occupation is as an engineer with a big german corp.

My military career started as a draftee, after that went into Army Reserve where I am pretty active acting as a shooting instructor e.g..

On the sideline I do contract security work, actually being one of the few in Germany with a carry permit (plus some more). Although that suffers a bit when time has to be divided between occupations, there are just so few hours in a day... [BD]

I hope that I can learn from you guys.

And I will try to contribute to the forums as this is one of the few places out there on the internet that is really refreshing, keeping bullshit to the minimum, maximising content, news and interesting information. After reading-only here for quite a while, I really feel comfortable. Kudos to the founders and members. Please keep it that way!

Mike,

Just returned to the USA after more than nine years in Germany, so it's good to see the board gain another connection to that part of the world. More to the point, having spent some time on the K-ISOM web site, I'm more than a little impressed with what you guys are accomplishing. Prima!

We're a stronger community with you here -- welcome!

Mike,

Who would have thought that you guys have that many connections to the old continent and good ol' Germany...

Well, I already picked up that AC was stationed abroad but missed the "returned to the USA" part. A pity, as we could have had a cometogether of some sort (on a range, preferably... [:D] ).

We do a lot of liasion stuff with US units here, running them through the Schützenschnur badge, doing some cross training and the like.

Out of curiosity: Where were you guys located at?

Hello.. New here, live in the Seattle area and have recently gotten into guns within the last couple months. Have a Glock 23 and a Beretta Neos u22 and my buddy at work (who I introduced to this site) who got me into this addiction has got me wanting to build an AR now.

Hopefully I'll be able to pick up a lower from Rainier Arms next week and get the ball rolling! Am very glad to have stumbled upon this site it has provided some great information and reviews so far. I look forward to learning more as I build my AR with the confidence that you guys are a couple keystrokes away.

Where were you guys located at?

I was all over the place, but actually lived -- and was assigned -- primarily in Hanau for the first several years. When we pulled the Aviation Brigade out of there around 2005, I then went to Wiesbaden, and ultimately to Heidelberg, as the USAREUR Aviation Assignments Manager. In that capacity, my largest account was obviously in the Ansbach area (Illesheim and Katterbach), so I got out there quite often as well. Like most GIs in Europe, I did my share of time at Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels, too.

Since I always lived off-post, I had the great privilege of actually getting to experience the culture, and I "went native" for the most part (DMSB Class A racing license, Jagdschein/WBK, picked up a couple of Dackels, etc.). When it came time to leave, I left claw marks on the tarmac at FRA.

I'm still in close contact with the Stammtisch crew in Main-Kinzig Kreis, which isn't surprising, since I spent nearly a decade with these guys, and most are now just a part of the family. I'll actually be headed back for a week in February to celebrate a 50th birthday, and on that note, I should probably start pre-loading with aspirin now ...

MfG,
AC

P.S. Given your level of access/involvement, I'm guessing you might know Alexander K. in Russelheim/Frankfurt. Spent some very interesting days out at his place shooting our way through the collection.

Gentlemen: I wasn't too far out your neck of the woods. I was assigned in Schweinfurt from 2002-2006 with an obligatory fieldtrip down range in 2004. Last Graf Jan 06. Prefer not to remember Hohenfels. Grew up in Hanau in the late 70s when my dad was still in. We loved it in Northern Bavaria and family wants to go back.

Tried like the devil to go to Ansbach, but no luck. We had native friends about 30 mins south of there that were our BOL.

I've been here for a while. I think I have a grand total of 5 posts. More of a keep my mouth shut and learn for a while.

I'm a 21 year old guy in the EMS Academy right now. Probably going Fire soon. I shoot 3-gun and do the occasional course when one fits in budget. I really like doing the whole "basement gunsmithing". I just got done building my AR, and I'm working on an AK right now.

This site has been a huge help with my AR. From installing things to making decisions on parts based off of your guy's reviews. Hell, I've even put off on some things just becasue Stick gives the heads up that something else is coming out soon.

Anyways, great site, no bull, amazing resource.

All the best,
-Matt

Last Graf Jan 06. Prefer not to remember Hohenfels.

First Hohenfels was a gunnery in the summer of 1985. At that time Hohenfels was a live-fire range. Last Graf’ was a winter gunnery in 1993.

I ETS’d and did a European Out shortly thereafter, and remained in the Illesheim/Ansbach area as a DOD civilian.

Hohenfels was where I had my first experience with Germany’s wild boars. No one bothered to tell me about them until AFTER guard duty the next morning. :o

ETA: One thing I liked about going to Hohenfels, is one of my sister-in-laws lives not too far away in Schwandorf. So, Frau Quib could stay at her sisters place, and pay me visits while I was in the field. [:D]

Hello, long time lurker, recent joiner. I've been learning a great deal from everyone here. I'm planning an AR build for this summer, and the site and everyone's insights have been invaluable! I would be considered a geek in most circles, with no LE or MIL experience, but I grew up in southern Indiana and so have owned a few firearms. Now I've got the AR/M4 itch!

Hello everyone. Thank you for having me on your forum.

I'm a civilian with a strong interest in mechanical things. I started out with auto mechanics and eventually made my way to firearms, then specifically to the AR platform. I've been building ARs for about 10 years now.

I have no military or police background, but I do enjoy shooting and building ARs is one of my favorite hobbies. With little time to shoot and no practical use I have relied heavily on the internet to gather information.

I'd like to thank the members of this forum for helping educate me in the practical aspects of the AR. This is by far the most straightforward, no-bs forum I've seen.

I'd like to thank Stickman in particular for your gorgeous photos. I learn by watching so your detailed images have been instrumental in my education.

I've been hesitant to talk about my interest in guns on the internet simply because it's such a devisive topic nowadays, but I've decided to "come out of the closet" so to speak, and finally quit lurking ;-)

Take it easy,

Dave

Hey all,

I forgot to check in here when I first joined.

I'm a full time cop in a suburb of Washington DC, but I have a part time firearms business. At the full time gig, I'm a patrol shift supervisor and adjuct firearms instructor.

I'm not here trying to scare up business....I'm here to learn and contribute where I can. I fancy myself an amatuer phtographer, so I try to combine that passion with my firearms passion whenever possible. Hopefully I can at least provide some cool pics for the group.

Glad to be here!

I can thank Noveske for bringing me here.

A couple weeks ago I was shopping a new AR and reading all the reviews the web had to offer. Google brought me here and Stick sold me...not just on the Noveske, but also this great site. (Great write-up on the N4, who knows how many you sold with that post)

For the past 18 months I have been lurking on other sites and got so tired of the bashing and overly opinionated posts that I actually stopped visiting all forums entirely. After reading Stickman's review I spent the next couple nights checking this forum out and could not believe the staggering amount of insightful information- all prestented without the slightest bit of hating or bashing from the gallery.

I am fairly new to "all things tactical", but two years ago I jumped in with both feet. It started innocently enough with the purchase of a Kimber Stainless II, which I thought at the time was the end-all to my firearm collection. Little did I know that it was just the gateway drug to BRD and tactical addiction. Since then, I bought a RRA Entry Tactical, the Kimber was upgraded to a Wilson CQB, I had to have the Ruger SR-556 when it came out and finally I stepped up and put down for a Noveske Recce VIS w/ SwitchBlock. Can't really say where I will go from here, but I know the next purchases will be run by the members here first.

Thanks for a great forum, I hope I can be a helpful participant.

Found this site after spending some time on a few others over the last year and a half. When I saw high quality people like Quib and the wealth of knowledge he and many others bring to this site I was hooked.
Located in eastern KS, originally from Columbus, OH. I have a S&W AR15R which I purchased to fire the lower cost 5.45 cartridge and also have a DDM4 in 5.56. Enjoy shooting both. My biggest need right now is training.

Hello to all!
Another new member who is looking to increase my knowledge of the current AR systems.

I'm retired Army ('95), and my experience with the platform is pre-rail, optics, etc. I've had a vanilla Bushmaster for many years and am now looking to upgrade and enter the 21st century with some of the modern accessories.
I found this site after a Google of the Noveske VTAC and came across Stick's outstanding photos and write-up. I'll be searching, reading and probably asking more than a few questions as I get ready to purchase a rifle and some goodies to go along with it.

Thanks for your patience, in advance!!

Empire of Alaska reporting in. I originally discovered this site due to some of Stickman's photography that, through searching, led me here. Firearms enthusiast, amateur gunsmith, amateur mechanical engineer. Currently sell weapons for a living arming the proletariat of the great white north while establishing a reputation for being the person to ask if you want your question answered correctly and in as much pedantic detail as you require. Very glad this forum exists since the few times I've visited Arfcom over the years, I've been very put off by the general population and the fact that they want you to pay to view publicly posted material more than a month old.

I have been curious: Who owns and runs this forum? I keep seeing Rainier Arms mentioned but didn't see a thread anywhere explaining who, what, or if it's connected to anyone or anything. Thanks.

P.S. - The name is a reference to the fact that I'm a fan of Colt's older stuff, not a diehard Colt AR-15 owner. In fact, the current incarnation of "Colt" ranks pretty high on my list of companies to dislike for various reasons.

Hello all!

I am a long time member on ARFCOM and happened to find this site while Googling MAGPUL product reviews.

This site came up and it let me come to this site! I know that doesn't sound too exciting, but I work for the school system and firearms related sites are filtered and banned! Not sure how long I will have access here via work but I will enjoy it while I can (while on my breaks).

First let me thank all of the members of WEVO for the professionalism those who comment and participate bring to the forum. After lurking on this board gleaning information on the AR-15 variants, it is refreshing to see that not only are opinions and different tastes accepted, they are encouraged. I have seen many other boards where the banter is so brand loyal that scathing attacks by some enrage a group into a lynch mob mentality just because they choose brand x over brand y. It’s crazy, but it is funny to see… Anyway, WEVO has been my go-to site and I check it several times a day to read and learn, so I just wanted to thank all the members for your input and hope to add some of my own in the future.

A little about my first AR… In the early 1980’s I purchased a CAR upper kit (barrel, BCG, CH, carbine grips, and A1 style upper) the carbine style stock and the lower parts to build an AR at a gunshow. I then ordered a EA lower receiver, Colt armors manual, and a barrel wrench and built my first AR. I put it together and had a true “Frankengun.” It was not pretty and many parts were questionable as QC was not very good back in those days, but it did shoot and shoot. The typical story ensues, I got married, joined the air force, and soon what little money I had went towards more practical things like food and family.

My interest in AR’s was resurrected lately by chance when I pulled out the old “frankengun” and I soon was enchanted by the familiar call. I was hooked when I started frequenting WEVO and some other sites. The first thing I noticed during my hiatus was the advances to the AR-15 platform and the abundance of aftermarket accessories. It is beyond dizzying! Good dizzy though!

I recently purchased a rifle constructed for AR15.com for their 2009 SEBR and it is essentially a Spikes lower with their enhanced parts kit, an ACS stock, MOE grip, Spikes forged upper with a Daniel Defense CHF 16” midlength barrel and 12” Lite rail. The initial price was right and it would have been close to assemble it with parts purchased. Right now I am using Troy BUIS for shooting and have a Vortex PST 1-4 scope on order (backorder) along with a GG&G bipod to punch paper at the range. I doubt I will use the rifle for much more than punching paper, but that’s fun too!

I am now looking to build my next AR when the bills relax a little and would love to build a SBR using the CASV handguard, but I am still looking at others. Need to hit the lotto!

Anyway, just wanted to finally poke my head in and say Hi…

- Mike in Alabama

I ws into longrange/sniper shooting for a while but have kind of lost heart in it. I went from one extrem to the next. Now I got a woody for AR's and scatterguns. I have a DPMS which is fixing to get a different upper(Bravo or Spike's) also have a Stag. Both are 16" carbine length. Goin with a Middy now. Wish I had seen this site and another before I bought either. Neither have given me any problems. I just want one or two or three that I know wont give me problems.

A little bit about myself:

I do not come from a professional weapons related background. My profession for the past 25+ years is in the field of aviation maintenance- military, military contract, manufacturing and civilian aviation. As an FAA certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician with FAA Inspection Authorization, I have a variety of experience with both fixed-wing and rotor-wing airframes, reciprocating and turbine powerplants.

As a military veteran, I started my career in Army Aviation as an Aero Scout Crew Chief. I recently retired my tool box, and for the past 3+ years have been working on the Aircraft Quality Assurance/Airworthiness Certification side of aviation, currently involved with helicopter modifications and new system certification. As a life long shooter, I grew up with firearms and at an early age I learned to appreciate and respect them.

Combining my life long love for firearms, my military experience and technical background, I enjoy all aspects of the AR15/M16. The history and development, shooting, as well as building and maintaining.

I am by far not nearly as knowledgeable as those who call this their profession and will never claim to be. But through my on-line tutorials and tech information posted here at Weapon Evolution, I will make every attempt to pass along the knowledge and experience I have personally gained over the years from my involvement with the AR15, and from those who were so gracious enough to have helped me out.

Always kind of viewed the rifle as just one more tool to maintain and be proficient with, but recently have become more interested in it (after they took mine away) and bought my own - Stag, then Noveske, now building a Noveske-based SBR.

Anyway, nice forum here. Not quite as contentious as some of the other AR15 forums out there.

New here also. Former 82nd Airborne guy back in the day. Currently a full time medical student at University of Louisville Kentucky.

I spent the majority of my life as a broker with two of the largest Wall Street firms. ( dont hang me just yet) After becoming sickened by the industry I atteneded Northern Kentucky University for all the courses necessary for a pre-med requirment, most of the stuff I avoided in undergrad.

Just another gun guy that loves my rifles, pistols, sub-guns, NFA stuff and building new AR's.

I am also a member on M4C.

Have long been impressed with your site, especially the emphasis on information, as opposed to opinion. Elsewhere, the former seems to be in short supply, while the latter predominates. So, I congratulate the founders and the members for staying on target. At the moment, my focus (pun intended) is optics, so I ask your indulgence if my contributions are only occasional and somewhat narrow. As time goes along, I promise to be more active.

Let me stop by and say hello!

I've been lurking around here for a few weeks now and after I read two threads by Stick I couldn't resist signing up. I'm currently a college student working towards my AA degree (almost done!) and look forward, thereafter, to a military career; I aim toward a position as an Armorer in the USMC or USAF, but as I'm sure some here know, you can't always get the job you want. I've been interested in firearms ever since I nearly killed a group of men from church while they took me on a hunting trip (Let's just say, it isn't wise to kneel and track a flying bird with your shotgun while in the center of a group of six standing men), but enough of terrible childhood memories.

If asked the main reason I visit here, perhaps I would have to say, to learn more about the mechanical and ballistic workings of mainly, the M16/AR 15 family of firearms. I've been studying firearms since I was 16 and haven't lost a bit of interest in the years since then; though I am unfortunately not in a position where I have access to machining tools, I haven't been discouraged from creating my own firearm designs on paper - if only I had the power to make them real, and see if they work more than just on paper.

Most of this research, is motivated now not only by a curiosity, but the prospect that perhaps it'll become of real use in the military, and even in a civilian career.

A wonderful place of information you have here, I look forward to contributing what I can, and perhaps learning something too.

Stick's two articles that brought me here (I think I found them on arfcom or something.)

I just realized that stopping in to say hello was on my list of things to do and I've some where along the lines lost my list.

I've been a member for some time now and absolutely love the photos and information I've found here. I'm a 26 year old engineer living in Milwaukee, WI and working in the hydraulics industry (mobile transmissions). I've been a long time long gun shooter for hunting and sport, and have shot pistols for a few years at some local ranges. My latest endeavor has been customizing a piston driven AR and I'm now moving into higher end handguns and home built SBR's. Eventually I do hope to get some experience shooting in 3 gun matches. Anyone who has local information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for having me and I'm extremely excited to be here!!! Great people and a great wealth of knowledge!!

Whats up guys. Im Brandon from North Carolina.
Ive been trolling around the site for a while and see many things that catch my interest (product reviews mostly).
Ive looked on the other boards (M4C.net and ARFcom) and they seem like a place for net ninja/ mall ninjas/ and board ninjas. Im sure there are people that know a lot on those sites but it seems that if you dont go shoot 1000 rounds every trip or have a BCM/Colt/Noveske you aint nothin and youre gun is junk.
I love reading about how the AR runs and what makes the difference between a good one and a great one, attention to detail mostly and process/QC.
I got my Spikes ML about 4-5 months ago and built one of thier lower with a DD LPK and Magpul gear and enjoy pistol shooting as well. I wish I could go shoot more but time and finances dictate other wise.
Hope to learn some more about these rifles from the very knowledgeable people here.

OOPS! Had a little problemo posting and after it was fixed I forgot to say hello..

Well...Hello...

Dunno what to say but I am mighty impressed with this place. All the BS is down to a hush hush compared to what Ive seen around and the information is top notch.

A little about me..

Im a LEO with a major Metropolitan Police Department (location not important). Im not, what we call, "Tackleberries" but I do take my equipment seriously. I don't buy just to buy. I buy and USE. For a long time, I did foolishly believe that what I had is enough but reality is reality. I look around and try to absorb everything I can. The area I work in is EXTREMELY diverse and pretty much anything is possible. We have had active shooter situations in our area and it is just a matter of time before another one comes. I train when I can and just recently started doing some 3 gun competitions. I'm also am a avid motorcycle rider and just started to race with CCS (Champion Cup Series). Mostly because I only have the weekends free and cant take off a lot of time off of work and its great practice! I plan to take a couple of carbine classes but well see (funds, time, etc)

Hello everyone!

I am an avid reader (semi-daily for about two years), seldom poster. It is easy to be intimidated by the knowledge on this board. I prefer smaller online communities where people keep it civil (aimed directly at another well known gun board). Thank you all for your contributions.

I am a manager at a fairly large gunstore with indoor range. I enjoy the hobby so much, it turned into a job that doesn't pay nearly well enough! Ah well, I get to shoot whenever I want (I have the keys [:D]) and get some decent discounts. I carry daily and pray I'll never have to use deadly force, but am ready to do so. I love the knowledge offered here and will try to contribute where I can. I shoot lots of handgun, not enough long gun and reload. I have to admit, I'm a gear geek and need to spend more dollars on training (all my free in-house stuff can only take me so far).

If anyone is ever in the SW Ohio area and would like to shoot or talk guns, shoot me a PM and we'll hit the range!

Greetings everyone, I'm glad to be a new member of a group of like minded people. By like minded people, I mean people who are bitter clingers to God and guns, who love this great country, who value its history, who honor all those who serve and protect us, who cherish and promote family values. I come to these forums to glean information and to learn from you all and occasionally share my 2 cents.

A little info about myself. I was born into the military. My father was career Army and a WWII and Korean combat vet, so all things military are in my blood. I served eight years in the AF security forces under "Ronaldous Magnus" Reagan and Bush I, PSD'd in C. America and guarded nukes in W. Germany. The last 23+ years I've been a Deputy Jailer. I've been fortunate enough to be able to still train with the AF security forces as an "OPFOR" member on a regular basis. I try to invest a lot of time in formal training (finances permitting), I love "trigger pulling" time on the ranges and I am constantly studying, researching and practicing to become a better warrior. Hurricane Katrina showed me that unfortunately our federal, state and local governments are woefully unable to provide and protect us when the SHTF. So that 's why I'm here. To be prepared.

Thanks for your acceptance. I value your expertise and above all, your camaraderie!
