Ever noticed during your routine maintenance and cleaning, that your bolt face and the interior of your weapon are filled with tiny specs or flakes of brass? It could be that the ejector in your weapon has sharp edges, and during the ejection cycle as the empty case is extracted, the ejector wipes across the case rim shaving off minute particles or shavings of brass.

These minute particles can not only be a hindrance to cleaning. If they are left to accumulate on a weapon that sees limited maintenance, they could migrate down into the ejector pocket of the bolt where they can lead to sluggish ejector operation or worse, no ejection.

Outlined below are the basic steps I take on a new bolt, to chamfer and eliminate that sharp edge on the ejector and polish the ejector face. These few simple steps can greatly reduce or possibly eliminate all together, the brass flaking often encountered with sharp ejectors.

CAUTION: During the chamfer and polish procedure, avoid any altering to the trueness of the ejector face.
