Does anyone know the size of the threads on the Olympic Arms GI 16? I tried putting a phantom on it but the threads did not match. Looks like the common size is 1x28, I think. Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am relatively new to working on firearms. Any help or possibly an explanation of why they are different would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What caliber G.I.16? 1/2 x 28 is the threads on a standard 5.56/.223 barrel.

All of the OA barrels I have seen are 1/2x28. Is the Phantom replacing an A2 type FH that fit on okay?

It's 5.56, yes there is a standard a2 bird cage on it which went back on it just fine?

Ok, so I just called Olympic and they said all of there barrels are standard thread 1/2x28. The guy said my phantom must be wrong. It's marked 1/2x 28 I purchased is from Midway. So I can't figure it out.

Have you cleaned the threads? Sometimes crude build up can interfer with the "screwing" process.

No I haven't but it's worth a try. My gunsmith put them under a magnifier and said the threads are different, but I'll give it a try. Thanks, I'll let you know how it goes.

No, not yet haven't had a chance to get it apart yet. Just using the A2 for now. I'm working on getting my own vice and blocks.
