View Full Version : S&W M&P15T Pistol Grip Detent Spring(s) - How Many?

I recently changed out the stock pistol grip that came with my M&P15T to a Hogue pistol grip. The question I have for those who has this model is when you remove the pistol grip, is there just one detent sping or two?

When I removed mine, I have just one, which is the one that goes into the grip itself, but for some reason, I was expecting or thinking there would be two detent springs, the one in front for the grip, and a smaller one toward the rear.

By the way, the Hogue grip is so much better. [:D]

There is only one spring, housed in the right side of the grip. It provides tension on the selector detent.

Here are some graphics to go along with Eric’s description.....

Thanks Eric, Quib!

I had already finished the swap last night, but just wanted to do a sanity check.

I thought there was only one spring, not sure where I remember seeing two springs -- I think it was on the M&P15-22 cal model, but since I don't have that model, I can't say that with certainty.

Anyway, thanks again!

Most, if not all, of the .308 ARs have two springs captured by the pistol grip: one for the selector, and one for the rear takedown pin.

Thanks Eric, Quib!

No problem. Glad to help. [:)]
