Looks like this. (http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=15003063) $540. [:D]

I wish that I could give you an exact weight difference. There was a definate "WOW" factor with how lightweight all of the components were, but it would be hard to compare without physically weighing both of them. I will try to get you a more precise answer, but I would say that there is a weight savings.

Yes it does, probably for a good reason.

I think it you weighed the complete system (rail, upper, barrel nut) we could contrast that with traditional upper + various rails.

I'm working on getting an answer for you on that.

Per an Aero Precision representative:

The combined weight of the Upper, barrel nut, two handguard panels, three picatinny rails, and the screws is 1lb. 9.6oz.

Hope that helps out.

Will they have a rifle length model available?

When, not if.

Yes it does. I have some other weights to factor in on my end.

Just so I'm sure I understand...

Looking from the front down the barrel, you have a half-round top. To that you bolt the side "rail insert" of your choosing, and to those you bolt a 1/4-round "handguard panel" on each side, and those are joined at the bottom by another "rail insert". Rail inserts are available full-rail, half-rail/half-smooth, and full smooth.

Pretty much, but the kit also includes a version of the full-rail and full-smooth rail inserts with anti-rotation sling swivel sockets.

Bill,

Check your email when you get a chance, I sent you a reply.

Overall width with rails, overall height, and inside diameter?
(or did I miss it somewhere? Having a discussion thread separate from a review thread is hard to follow)

Agreed, but its the only way to keep things clean. Imagine having "the chart" open where people could post comments.... :P

The overall width with picatinny rail inserts is 2.426", with smooth inserts it is 2.156" the handuard's internal diameter is 1.35". It should accommodate a pistol suppressor inside the handguard, but we haven't had a chance to try that yet.

Wow this is sick.

Anyone know where to order one? I couldn't find it on Surplus Ammo's site.

Surplus has them, they just aren't on the website yet. Your best bet is to call them.

So it would be something like the opposite of a VLTOR CAS-V system? I like the ingenuity

Just curious to know what's the rail measurement of the Mid-Length version?
