From time to time, on the various forums, someone will complain about how much of a pain it is to put on and take off most chest rigs, unbuckle this, unbuckle that, i can't reach the buckles to put the rig on, bla, bla bla. The usual responses are to get a a split front chest rig, and 9 out of 10 times the responding person(s) will recommend a 2 piece Tactical Tailor Mav. However, there are other options available. One of the more versitile options is the Essential Tactical (Esstac) Bush Boar A1. (http://www.skdtac.com/Esstac_Chest_Rig_Bush_Boar_A1_p/ess.502.htm)

As stated in the introduction to this article, the Bush Boar A1 is a split front chest rig. It is held together with a reversed YKK Zipper and two fastex buckles. instead of undoing the zipper like you would release the fly on your pants, it zips from bottom to top to undo it and top to bottom to resecure it.

In the past if your primary weapon was a m4/ar15 and your secondary weapon was based off a 7.62 platform, chances were your 7.62 magazines weren't going to fit in your AR/M4 chest rig, thus requiring you to lug around a second chest rig. What is unique about the EssTac Boar line (http://www.skdtac.com/SearchResults.asp?cat=2346&RefineBy_Manufacturer=E SSTAC&RefineBy_15003=&RefineBy_Price=&Search=) of chest rigs is that it is a two (three) piece system. Unlike other pals based chest rigs, there is no need to buy additional rifle pouches to mount to this chest rig. The Boar Series chest rig features a pals covered outter layer and a removable secondary panel. The removable panel is what actually houses your magazines and is available in either 5.56/.223 or 7.62; and in either a 6 magazine (http://www.skdtac.com/Esstac_Chest_Rig_Bush_Boar_A1_p/ess.502.htm) or 8 magazine (http://www.skdtac.com/Esstac_Chest_Rig_Boar_A1_p/ess.501.htm) version. These panels are not limited to magazines, however. The 7.62 model will hold MIBTR or smaller radios, and if you remove the insert it will hold a fully stuffed OSOE Medical Pull Out Tray (index.php/individual-pouches/medical-pouches/osoe-medical-insert.html), snuggly.

The Bush Boar A1 ships stock with non-padded criss cross style shoulder straps, and one waist strap. The Waist Strap is constructed of 38 inches of adjustable webbing. This allows ample room to fit over armor, or to cinch tight when not wearing armor. Unlike other criss cross styled shoulder straps I do not find that these irritate my neck. The lack of padding (a good thing) allows the shoulder straps to actually ride on the shoulders instead of the lower neck line.

Being that I am a skinnier guy, though my wife knudges me into working out by calling me a fat ass, the outter two magazine slots tend to wind up underneath my arm pits. Because of this I have found that I have to wear this rig as more of a belly rig. Normally I cannot stand to wear my second line this low. I prefer to run my second line as an actual chest rig, up around my pecks. This is.... the only.... rig that has been comfortable in this position. It is almost like it was designed to fit over IBAs, securing the magazines lower and allowing open access to the upper pals on the IBA carrier.
