Here is my recent experience with BATF regarding a silencer transfer:

3/04 - Bought SPR/M4 from Polite Society, Inc (highly recommended)
3/29 - Transfer approved to local Class 3
4/6 - Received by local Class 3
6/18 - Transfer approved to me [:D]
6/19 - In my hands

Filling out all these forms and waiting for approval always makes me grumpy.

But, it's done and in BATF time, it was at light speed.

What are your current wait times?

My Form 1 went pending on 1 April...it still is pending. I stopped calling. I figured it will be more exciting when it just shows up in the mail. Who knows when.

Mailed 4/26
Check cashed 5/11
Pending 6/2

It'll get here when it gets here, I'm so busy at the moment I don't realize the time it's taking anyway.

Well, the NFA stamp showed in the mail Saturday! Dated Aug 3. (Form 1)

Damn pleased with the turn around, considering I had to cancel the initial application and resubmit. Now if I can just get a couple days off and assemble this pile o' parts.

I sent in a Form 1 for an SBR build on 15 December 2010 and received the tax stamp on 3 March 2011. I'm still waiting on the stamp for a Form 4 on an SPR/M4 sent in on 28 December 2010.

Just got approved for 2x Silencerco 22Sparrow cans. Waiting for the dealer to get the paperwork.

3/22/2013 - Forms delivered to ATF
3/26/2013 - Checks cashed
1/26/2014 - Forms approved

10 months this time around. The last can I bought took just under 4 months.

I'm excited to get the cans, but disappointed with the process.

The ridiculous wait times make me reluctant to participate in this boondoggle any longer, but if I give up, they've won.

NFA items are rarely used in crime. I'm tired of giving money to the government just because they said so.

All my NFA items are held by my company. Looking back, I wish I had put them in a trust instead. If I die or the company is dissolved, I lose all my NFA items. Now if I want to transfer them to a trust, it will cost me $200 a pop and with several stamps, that adds up quickly, not to mention it's a pain in the ass.

So ... lessons learned: if you're new to the NFA, use a trust and buy everything you want up front to make the best of the nearly year-long wait times. It's not going to get any better ...
