View Full Version : How would you get your irons on the same plane on this upper

I am looking at some Accuracy Systems AR-10 uppers and I noticed a few of them have gas blocks and flat-tops that are not on the same plane.

Here's one:

If I were to buy one of these, what would I put under the front sight to correct this?

A spacer?

Front Sights come in two heights:

Hand Guard Height
Gas Block Height

You would need a front sight specifically built for mounting on a Gas Block.

I never knew that, thanks.

I just noticed on Troy's website that they are making front sights for gas blocks but they aren't out yet.

Or, a new railed gas block of proper height, or a new railed handguard. Looks like you have a bull barrel there in the pic (.936").

There are other manufacturers making sights and gas blocks that compensate for that height difference, like Yankee Hill Mfg:

- Gas Block .936" - http://yankeehillmachine.com/store/product649.html

- Sights - http://www.yhm.net/store/sights.html - pics that should resemble the scenario you posted above.

Glad to help, and it's a good thing you thought to ask.......

It's a pretty common occurrence to unknowingly purchase the wrong front sight. Then when it comes time to zero the weapon, the shooter starts wondering why things are not going as they should and sights reach their travel limits long before zero is achieved.
