View Full Version : Need some sling advice

Object is a 16" middy with a CTR stock and MOE handguards.

I have a viking tactics standard sling. Currently using the vertical slot in the CTR and a H&K clip on the forward stock FSB sling position. This is less than optimal obviously.

My first question/observation is I'm having a hard time adjusting it to fit me. I'm 6' tall and 150lbs with an average skinny but not sickly size chest/shoulders, it seems this sling is built with someone either significantly larger or wearing a heck of a lot of gear in mind. I might just be up the creek on this I realize. To reach a point where I can snug it up to my chest or back enough to not flop around too much I end up with the adjusting latch quite far around on the left of my back. If I take out slack on the forward attachment I end up with very little adjustment room. I can work with it but am I missing something or is this just the way of things?

Next up is mounting. I'm interested in an end of receiver mounting with some sort of extension tube plate, and using either a MASH clip or another H&K clip. Such as this http://www.crosstac.com/store?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=69&category_id=39 or this http://www.skdtac.com/Vltor_Single_Attachment_Sling_Endplate_p/vlt.110.htm. Though the Vltor one I believe would be safer to use with a MASH clip, I've seen examples of the H&K clip un-clipping on it's own if the opening is too large and things bind just right. My complaint with the vertical slot on the CTR that I'm using now is transitions to the support side are next to impossible without choking as tight as I have to run the sling, even fully extended. I'm hoping the central rear of receiver attachment point helps with that. Thoughts?

On the front side, there is this http://store.impactweaponscomponents.com/mosnho.html which again looks like a job for a MASH clip, but it's light and simple and I can position it wherever feels good on the MOE handguard, I suspect high and near the receiver. The other thought has been this http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=118&parents=153,174 mounted to a piece of pic rail on the MOE, but it seems like two parts where one would suffice (the mount-n-slot). I'm trying to stay simple and durable, cheap would be nice but it costs what it costs I guess.

Thoughts and/or experience?
