INTRO:
This is my review of the Magpul AFG and the new AFG2.

AFG SPECS: (http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG411/88)
Weight: 2.92 oz.
Length: 5.55 in.
Height over rail: 1.75 in.
Width: 1.77 in.

I purchased the Magpul AFG because I like to shoot with a squared up stance and my weak hand forward. The AFG does feel very natural and when used properly, it really helps with controlling the weapon for the faster follow up shots and also aids in stabilizing the weapon. The AFG is best used with a longer rail system so you can extend your arms out. I am relatively short and even with the LMT MRP, which is equivalent to a 9" handguard, it still felt a little short. The AFG is really at home with a 12" handguard. If you are stuck with a handguard shorter than 12", you can always extend your stock out, which definitely helps. The one major complaint about the AFG is that it is so wide that you have a hard time mounting a weaponlight unless you mount it on the top rail. Even the Tangodown rail covers were tight with the AFG. The width, for me became a real problem for the fact that a weaponlight was very difficult to use, unless I wanted to spend more money on different mounts.

AFG2 SPECS: (http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG414/88)
Weight: 2.53 oz.
Length: 4.70 in.
Height over rail: 1.94 in.
Width: 1.37 in.

When I first received the AFG2, I immediately noticed the size difference. I knew it was going to be narrower, but I didn't know it was also going to be shorter. I feel no real difference between the two as they are pretty much identical in feel when shooting with it. The width is what really sets the AFG2 apart from the AFG. I was able to install a VTAC light mount without any issues. Pretty much any weaponlight can be mounted on the left or right side.

CONCLUSION:
The Magpul AFG and the AFG2 are very similar except the width. For Tactical Purposes, I would only recommend the AFG2 because of the ability to mount a weaponlight much easier.
