Guys, what is the best way to go about running multiple optics on one gun. I say this because I recently got an ACR and would love to run some sort of scope with lets say a 6.8 barrel and then switch to my eotech for the 5.56. I figured I could get a QD system for the scope but am worried that when I go to install it back on the rails it wont be in the exact same spot and im not sure if just having it in the same rail slot every time will maintain accuracy. Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks for the help!

If you are swapping barrels and optics, you are going to need to rezero each time. Something like a Bobro, ADM or others will get you close, but swapping barrels is adding something extra into the picture.

You can simply swap full uppers and not worry about removing optics and loosing zeros.

True story! If I could only swap optics on the same caliber and keep zero I would be set!

Of course you can just keep going the route your thinking of and let us all know how swapping parts affects your zero. With quality mounts it shouldn't be too bad, so long as Bushmaster didn't suck on their end of things; but I doubt there would be no affect.

If you have a dedicated optic for each barrel, I doubt that the POI will be significantly off. The only way to try it is by experimenting. On my LMT MRP, I can take out a barrel and put it back on and I won't notice much of a change at 100 yards, so I'm sure the ACR will be just as good.

Good to know! Things are looking up for this plastic gun.

Well, to add even more complication, pairing these with a low POI shift suppressor would add even more to the equation. I figure it simplifies somewhat because shorter barrels are most likely to be used with reflex sights, while longer barrels (single optic, same barrel) are most likely to be used with a precision optic up top.

How about multiple optics, multiple guns... [:D]

When I initially heard about being able to quickly change barrels in the field on the ACR and SCAR I thought it sounded good, but thinking about the re zero issue a second upper on an AR make a lot of sense, I second complete carbine even better.

My experience matches Cameron's.

I usually find myself justifying a different barrel/handguard configuration that tends to go best with a certain optic (something long and medium contour usually wants a magnified scope with external turrets; something lightweight and short wears a red-dot; do-all uppers get low powered variables or two optics), and these tend to end up with their own uppers.

I think the most common use would be if you're looking for something with a really high end optic but still want two barrel lengths (e.g. Short Dot on an MRP), but after a lot of calculating with excel spreadsheets the cost savings for these setups were only in the optics/flashlights/irons or if building them off gucci lowers (UBR/MIAD/BAD, GSSA, Norgon Ambi), and at that point I've discovered that I really like having rifles that have similar setps,
for example my SBR and 14.5" Lightweights that use VTAC/TROY Rails with X300's and DD Fixed sights.

For me it came down to a storage issue for a short period of time, and complete guns take up around the same packing space as uppers.
