I need to order some spare parts and I noticed some vendors sell two types of firing pins.

There was a thread on another forum that explained when you are and when you aren't supposed to use one or the other - unfortunately that thread is archived and I can no longer read it.

So, if I have a full-auto carrier with a shrouded pin, does that mean I can run either firing pin or do I have to stick with M16 firing pins?

I'm ordering M16 firing pins, I would just like to know for future reference.

Firing pins are the same between M16 and AR15. If a vendor says differently, I would stay away from that vendor. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

AR15 and M16 firing pin are different on the flange size. the M16 firing pin flange are slightly larger than the AR-15.

They are not the same, which is why I am asking.

One pin is suitable for use in any bolt carrier, the other pin is meant for a certain type of carrier.

I can't remember which, but it's not really important since I ordered M16 firing pins for my M16 bolt carrier.

I was just curious, SAW sells both types.

Small flange is okay in all applications.
Large flange is bad in the semi carrier with an exposed firing pin. The larger flange gets hung up on the hammer.

I thought I'd add these photos, to possibly help illustrate Eric's point.
