Good afternoon,

First post in what I have found to be a very informative and knowledgeable site. Thank you for the stickies and help.

I am looking for a simple belt-mounted AR15 magazine pouch for competition shooting. I'd like to be able to wear two- whether separately or in one unit. I've seen many rigs here that mount on harnesses, etc, but not sure about a style that fits on an everyday-wear belt. I wear a 1.75" leather belt that currently holds my Comp-Tac mag' pouches for pistol shooting so I'd like the mag' pouch to fit the same belt.

Thanks in advance and happy new year.

Christian.

What type of material are you looking for? Nylon, plastic, other?

Here are a couple options from Blade-Tech Link (http://blade-tech.com/Double-Mag-Pouch-Accessories-c-283.html)

IMHO, mag pouches are about as much a personal preference as your holster would be. I would recommend that if you are carrying your handgun alone or with additional accessories, that you should invest in a tactical-type CQB or riggers belt that are designed for and can support a holster and accessories mounted to them.

If you'/re talking pistol mag pouches, I prefer polymer and I usually wear two double Blade-Tech pouches with Stingray loops on a 1.5 inch belt. Easy-in, easy-out, good retention.

If you're talking rifle mag pouches, look at ITW FastMags.

Thank you Zero7one. I realized I hadn't posted clearly when I read the post again. I am looking for an AR15 mag pouch. Thank you for the link and I agree with you on the pouch choice, I just don't know where to start so I'm not sure of my options.

Thank you Hmac for the reply. I will look at the ITW FastMags as suggested.

edit- I just looked at and read about the FastMags. The belt mounted version might be just the ticket. Thanks a lot.

If you don't need to sit in a car with this setup, have a look at Safarilands model 774 magazine holder.

They are not exactly slimline, but you can mount them either right or left hand side, tension can be adjusted and they offer enough space between body, clothing and magazine to establish a positive grip on the magazine even under stress.

I use a pair of G36 black magazine holders for light army duty and basic instructor tasks and an AR15 FDE pair for the range (in combination with a model 6378 ALS Paddle Holster and a pair of model 079 double pistol mag pouches, also in FDE).
These holders can either be mounted to a belt clip, standard safariland belt loops, drop leg plates or molle adaptors.
The belt used by me is a 1.75" 5.11 Operator Belt - but the belt clips can be adjusted for belt width.

I use, and recommend, the Ready Tactical from SKD (http://www.skdtac.com/Ready_Tactical_AR15_Mag_Pouch_p/rdt.110.htm). Be sure to pick the correct belt width, although the 1.75" will work on a 1.5". I have been using and recommending these for quite a while and many of our match shooters are using them to great success. I would say they are the single most common pouches we see now.

You can insert the mags bullet-forward or bullet-backward, easy to remove, easy to re-insert, and you can mount a MOLLE something-or-other on them, even double-stack them if you want.

Thank you Rob_s and Mike for the suggestions...........I've looked at both and like them. I'll read more in depth later when the kids are asleep.

Thank you for the follow up Hmac- the pictures helped a lot.

I'm sure I'll go through various iterations but thankfully I'm not advanced enough to probably know any better nor is my budget large enough to have a stream of attempts before I get it right. The Ready Tactical model's simplicity seems great. I read the reviews............no problem Rob_S with mag's falling out when running?

I've never lost a mag or seen one lost in the RT pouches. The ITW hold the mags tighter, for both the good and the bad that includes. I'm not a fan of the ITW attachment if you're using it on a pants belt because it takes too long to put on and take off but I do like them on warbelts. The thing that first attracted me to the RT was thrash on/off and I used the pistol mag holders for CCW.

Thanks for the follow up. My sentiments on the ITW at first glance as I'll be using them on my belt. I like my CompTac gear for my pistol for the same reason. Easy on/off but they hold on very well.

I use and prefer the wilderness ones. They are easy to put on and off, but I'm adding them to an EDC belt not a "war belt".

Hi again? Zero7one. I thought I had replied earlier to your post but either I failed to post it or it's in review.........if this is a duplicate please delete.

Thank you for your reply. I revised my OP to reflect a request for AR mag pouches. I did use your link to find a Blade Tech version which looks good.

rob_s,
do these mag pouches work with Magpul Pmags? Thanks

I would consider the Raven Concealment kydex AR mag pouch. It can be run single or pair with another. I've had mine for about a year and it's been great for my set up. They are a available for USGI, PMAG 30's and PMAG 20's. I run mine on a eagle industries belt, not a duty rig, but I have no complaints other than the wait time from RCS.
