Is this your wish list, or an actual build. The reason I ask is because we're on similar paths, but I'm going to move up to 11.5 or 12.5. Two primary reasons are the significant loss of velocity from 11.5 to 10.5, and muzzle blast. I just ordered an M4-2000 with Brakeout, as well. Take a look at this link. It shows the muzzle brake wear on a 10.5 vs 12.5. http://www.ar15.com/lite/topic.html?b=2&f=405&t=190413

I do love the look of the MK18.

How did you arrive at this parts list? What is your intended application? Are you going to shoot is suppressed fulltime or both with and without the can?
POD? RISR? What are you hoping to accomplish with these parts?

What you list may be the best rifle ever for one guy, and a complete waste of time/money for another. While all of the parts listed appear to be quality parts (even is some are probably totally useless in this application) the rifle as listed would be of zero interest to me personally. Could I shoot it? Yeah. Would it work? Probably. Would I put that exact assemblage of parts together? Not in a million years.

If this is intended to be a collector piece for internet-picture-posting (the 21st century equivalent of the "wall hanger") then rock on. But in that case it's all about the aesthetics and nobody can help you with that but you. Only you know what looks "cool" or best impresses your friends.

I think Rob nailed it. I'm not seeing the need for some of those components, its not that they won't work, but I don't see the need in a SBR application.

I personally wouldn't use fixed sights on the platform either.

I personally wouldn't use fixed sights on the platform either.

How come?

Since the SBR isn't meant to be a long range gun, there wouldn't be any need (that I can see) to have a folding rear to accomodate a X+ powered scope, or would there be?

I'm no AR expert which is why I ask.

I keep my sights down, but that's a personal preference.

I had a fixed front sight in front of my Aimpoint mounted at absolute co-witness height and it bothered me enough to make me cut the front sight off and replace it with a flip-up.

If I had gone with a lower 1/3 mount instead, I probably would have left the front sight alone because there isn't as much sight tower in your FOV.

Every shooter is different, but you'll never see me build an upper with fixed sights unless I'm going to shoot it with irons only or with an optic on a tall mount.

zollen, you really need to answer the questions above in regard to your application. It's your rifle so get it clear in your head before pulling out the credit card, no one can tell you what's best for you unless we know more about what you want. Also you have some conflicting threads. Do you want to buy a complete AR or the lower and upper separately?

I know this is hard and you don't want screw the pooch so take your time... One question, do you own a basic AR now, if not that might be a better choice and then go wild on the second AR.

This is utterly pointless. This guy is on at least one other forum posting this same stuff, with no responses to the questions being asked of him, no clarifications, etc.

I think this may explain a lot.

I have zero experience and knowledge when comes to firearms. I have been playing airsoft for a number of years and I would like to slowly transition to real M4 rifle. I am trying to learn as much as possible. These parts are very expensive to me and I want to take my time learning from you guys. I hope you do not mind.

I was planning to get a custom M4 rifle only for shooting in a range. I have no intention to bring it home.

Quentin

Don't mind at all. But you're at a point where lots of new people are where it's better to read threads and stickies here and at other AR sites and soak up knowledge. You'll be much happier with the firearms you buy if you do the research. Take all the time you need and try to stick to a basic configuration at first. You'll find that vague questions get vague answers and just waste everyone's time so try to ask specific well thought out questions.

I have no intention to bring it home.

The law doesn't allow you in Canada or is there something else?

Unless it's illegal, none of us have any problems with bringing our firearms home, we actually prefer them there.

It sounds like he is allowed to own an AR-15, but it must remain at the range. Is that correct, OP?

By the time you get an SBR, can, etc. (BTW, can you even register an SBR as a non-citizen or resident) you're going to have tousands of dollars poured into things just to leave it stateside? I don't care about the legalities as that's your problem, but if you're serious about learning to use the platform there are probably other, better, ways to go about it.
