I was informed that you are only allowed to have 5 round in your shotguns even though it has a higher capacity. Can anyone help me shed some light on the situation?

Informed by who? Did they give you a specific RCW? I have no idea what law that would be in reference to.
WA State Firearms Laws are primarily listed in RCW 9.41 (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=9.41) and RCW 77.15.460 (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=77.15.460) talks about loaded firearms in vehicles.

Not true. The only restriction on shotgun capacity is when hunting at three rounds.
