View Full Version : Looking for a fixed front sight

Title says it all, I've been shooting with my irons up anyway so I'm replacing them with fixed sights.

I already know which rear sight I want, but I'm not sure about the front yet.

So far this one has caught my eye:

I like how it mimics a standard sight base, the only thing I don't care for is the thumbscrew - is the LMT my only option for this style of sight?

Check out the Daniel Defense Fixed Front Sight (https://danieldefense.com/components-parts/upper-half/sights/rail-mounted-fixed-front-sight.html)

Yes, that is much, much better.

Thanks for the link!

I can't have a big thumbscrew hanging off the left side because my Scout is mounted right there.

Looks like the DD clamp will be ok.

Also check out Troy.

Thanks Paulo, I didn't even know Troy was making fixed sights.

I'm liking the price, too.

I use the DD fixed front but I have a LMT rear sight. Modified the thumb screw like many others have so we don't have the large knob on the side. Not quick to put on and off but we don't have the large knob and when would you want to quickly remove and fixed sight anyways? Just an option if you're set on the LMT front that there are ways to remove the knob.

Not what you asked, but I am using the Troy fixed rear on the BCM Dissipator and like it quite a bit in that application. Haven't used the fixed front from them.

Yeah, I thought about buying the LMT and replacing the thumbscrew with a low profile jam nut but it looks like it won't be necessary.

Rob, are you shooting irons only on that dissy? If not, what optic and what height?

I've gotten used to shooting with my irons up and with my T-1 at absolute co-witness, I'm thinking about swapping my T-1 for something with a slightly larger tube. Maybe a CompM4/M4s?

I know, I know, I bitched about my sights being in my FOV before but now they don't even bother me.

The Dissipator is irons only for me.

I run either fixed irons with RDS in lower 1/3 or folding rear with RDS in absolute when I have an FSB available, or folding front/rear with RDS in absolute, or typically folding front/rear for magnified optics.

I really like that dissipator, especially with those handguards.

I need a 2nd job so I can build more rifles.

I also need to stay away from this forum LOL

I know I am a bit late to this party, but I am in the same situation as the OP. I have done some research and it comes down to only 2 sights. The Troy HK fixed and the DD fixed. My question is, the ones that have or used the Daniel Defense model, will the DD mounting system have any stress that could cause it to break? It seems to me that the two relief cuts allow the base of the sight to flex, resulting in a clamping style mount. Any chance of this breaking?

My gut is leaning towards the Troy HK style fixed front based on shape alone.

It's hard to tell, I can't find a good image of the left side of the DD front sight.

What I do know is, with my Scout sitting on a Gear Sector offset mount, I have very little room for anything at the tip of my 12 o'clock rail.

I even had to shave down the nut plate on my folding Troy sight at an angle to get it on.

I'd rather not move my light so I need to find something that will fit or can be easily modified to fit.

You can see it's a pretty tight fit:

I've banged the front sight of the DD around at an EAG class and it's not going anywhere. The DD sight is secured by a flathead screw which clamps it to the rail. Unless you don't have it secured, it's not going anywhere unless you want it to or you put enough force to bear on it to have it shear off.

Thanks for the info Keebsley, I found the DD at Primary Arms for $47.99 so I am ordering one.

From what I can see, it looks nice and thin on the left side so I shouldn't have a problem getting it on next to my light mount.

I had a VTAC light mount and then a Danger Close Consulting light mount and the DD site never interfered in the slightest. The DCC light mount has been the closest fitting light mount to the rail I've used and it was perfect and right there next to the site. Good luck with it. You won't be disappointed.
