OK guys, I have a stockpile of magazines now (60 Pmags). There are 5 or 6 I will carry to the range each time I go, but what about the others? Should I remove the floor plates and leave them with the springs completely uncompressed? I know they come packaged fully assembled, but something tells me they don't sit in the warehouse or on store shelves for very long before being sold. I have read stories of finding loaded magazines 20 or 30 years after the fact that worked flawlessly. Is storing them with the springs completely uncompressed going too far?

Working a spring is what weakens them. Load them up and forget about them.

PS> That's after you have tested them in you carbine of course.

My box of go-to magazines are all tested, then loaded to 28 rounds and stuck in a shoe box.

Never have had a problem with them yet.

Good call. Compression and decompression cycles fatigue the spring more so than leaving them under a constant load. In the event that you actually manage to wear a spring out, replacement springs are inexpensive, as are new mags.
