Adaptive Carbine One:

“From beginner to advanced shooter, the Adaptive Carbine program starts with a proper fundamentals package and escalates to high stress situations where speed, efficiency and accuracy mean shooter survival.” Haley Strategic Partners.

I had the opportunity to attend a Magpul carbine/pistol class when Travis Haley was still working with Magpul Dynamics. Moving ahead a few years later, Travis has created his own company, Haley Strategic Partners, I wanted to see what one of the top tier instructors was offering with his new company. Bottom line, you will not be disappointed. I am not here to provide an AAR, rather a pictorial of the class and my own thoughts.

As stated above from the Haley Strategic website, the student is put through the pace of a 3 day class, where fundamentals, stress levels and your skill proficiency is tested and elevated. At the end of the class you will get rewarded with self-confidents and raised awareness of yourself and your surroundings.

This may sound out of touch in a game controller world like your PS-3 or X-Box, but in the real world of shooting and tactical mindset, this is your Zen moment in learning a skill and about you. The class was filled with folks from all walks of life, young and old, tech and gearheads, and shooters who wanted to improve themselves. The Adaptive Carbine Class is a good platform for any student to start with.

Travis and his co-instructor Brannon LeBouef used every minute to teach and demonstrate to the class. If there was a down time it was setting up your targets and a water break. Nevada was hot and dusty when the class was going on. Your classroom was the northern Nevada desert at the LMS range.

The students were attentive and wanting more from both instructors. There were opportunities for the students to try various shoulder fired weapons, (auto & suppressed AR and AK rifles). Consider that a bonus in this day and age. The class started at 0800 hrs. and ran approximately to 1630 hrs. The class covered fundamentals from zeroing your AR, proper stance and holding your AR, magazine manipulation, malfunction drills, weapon transition from AR to pistol and back, shooting strong hand and weak hand. At the end, you will master your weapon.

Travis brought to the class his drive, persona, and hunger to teach. Whether you heard, read, or seen Travis on the Magpul Dynamic videos, youtube or had met him in person, Travis is the skilled warrior, teacher and philosopher. When you walk away from the class, your mind is racing with yourself to better your performance and in the back of your mind, you know your skill level has increased and you will deal with problems that may challenge you on any field or boardroom. Be safe all.

I will be following up at another Haley Strategic class next month, so more to follow.

While at the Haley Strategic class, the folks from Rifle Dynamics arrived and presented a custom build AK to Travis, very cool. If you're into a well made AK check out Rifle Dynamics out of Las Vegas.
