View Full Version : Final ordered a Rifle... Flip BUIS?

Well, long story short, i suppose i didnt ask quite enough questions before i ordered the rifle.
I ordered a 16 inch Palmetto State Armory rifle kit:
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/rifle-kits/16-hammer-forged-mid-length-rifle-kit.html
With the full magpul MOE setup...
*Rant* well i planned to mount a short to mid range scope on it, and i was told by the seller "Yes, if you order the front and rear mbus sights the upper will be equiped to mount them and it will NOT have the standard a2 style front sight" well i called to verify after placing the order and a new person answered, he informed me the sights will be sent, but it will have the a2 gas block still, which makes me paying for the sight option ABSOLUTELY pointless. *END RANT*

So basically, i am calling back monday to most likely cancel the mbus sights all together and ask for a refund on that portion. I was wondering what setup you all on the forum would recommend? I need a Gas block sight with fold down, and a rear fold down. i plan to utilize a Millet DMS-1 in most cases but i prefer irons on the range.

(or better off getting a railed gas block and rail mounted flip ups?)

Brands ive looked at:
Yankee Hill Machine
GG&G
BCM

Anyone got any recomendations? i would prefer something i can do myself with basic tools, ive heard good and bad about all of the above companies so i have no idea what to look at.

Thanks for the info!

You can still use the MBUS rear sight with the A2 front, that's how I run mine anyway. Matech might be worth a look, it's about as simple as can be.

You can always get it as is and dremmel the front A2 gas block down and put an 11-12" handguard over it and put the front and rear MBUS. It is very easy to do if you have a dremmel tool.

I talked to PSA today and they said they recommend YHM gas block sights and would install it for me at no charge given my issues, so i may just go with that.

@Paulo_Santos- i was planning to avoid rails if at all possible. im not one of those mr gadget shooters. worst case ill cut stock one down so its not in my scope view

The A.R.M.S.® #41™-B Silhouette™ is always an option. Retails around $153.50.

Folding Front Sight with integral gas block. Fits Standard size AR15 (750) barrel. 100% MADE IN THE USA.

The NEW A.R.M.S.® #41™-B SILHOUETTE™ Front Folding Sight solves the problem of trying to fold the well known triangle shape of the conventional non folding front sights. Barrel mounted in place. Utilizes a rugged spring loaded angled support system to eliminate getting caught up in brush and other combat hazards. Also uses the standard front sight post. Optional Bayonet Lug also available. Pat. No. D588228.

That is actually pretty neat, What is the height on it? we talking standard a2 height went up? Actually, they have a fantastic .5 moa rear flip up, i think ive found my choice. ill comment back after i hear from PSA tomorrow.

Optional bayonet lug available??? Who'd be nuts enought to mount a bayo to that fragile thing?

I'd just order a new gas block, or dremel down the existing one to fit under a FF handguard, and do the Dremel thing too myself. The Centurion C4 rail comes to mind, since it would need no additional tools, gives you a very solid rail with sling mounts, and you'd have a free floated rifle with a good barrel and low powered variable optic.

Incorrect, it is not fragile at all. When they first came out I locked one into its upright position and beat on it with a hammer to see how fast it folded or when ti would break. The ARMS 41b is not fragile by any stretch of the imagination, though I cheerfully admit there isn't much which can compare to a standard pinned FSB.

To the OP, I would recommend getting what you wanted from the start. Why in the world would you be buying something with a fixed FSB when you were told you were paying for one without. The idea of paying more to fix something instead of getting what you ordered is obscene to me.

well at this point, they have readily made it available that i can get a refund on the sight. however, as i have already ordered the rifle, and the rest of the order is exactly what i requested, it seems the error was the miscommunication on the part that the rail is extra (on top of sights if i wanted them to be mounted) and on top of that they are out of stock on that rail. They have offered that if i would like to purchase a rail they would install it at no charge to me with a low profile gas block. at this point, i'm not sure if i want a refund on the MBUS and just buy the flip up gas block and rear, or if i should just refund for the hand guard and put a railed on it to mount the mbus. They said that they would make this clear on their website from now onward, but stated that they typically did not have orders for anything other than the fixed A2 sight.

So at this point:
a) Keep the moe hand guard, buy ARMS fold down gas block, and flip up rear sight (the .5 moa seems great)

b)Buy a railed hand guard and use the MBUS sights.

opinions?

75 yards with basic cheap federal ammo, that was a 5 shot after sighting in (two shots to get sighting level down, one fragged hard into the top and the other hit the base). I REALLY dislike these iron sights, perhaps i havent gotten the hang of them, but im always high or low.

I am still waiting for my fold down front gas block to arrive, i also was wondering if anyone could recommend a good scope? something around the range of 2-7 or 3-9, i dont want to lose my close sighting capabilities but i cant deal with these irons lol.

currently eying the Nikon 2-8x or 1-4x m223...

I'd guess your high and low due to having an inconsistent sight picture (not placing the front sight in the dead center of the rear every time) and or/not focusing on the front sight. Also, watch your breathing.

This is just my advice, but take the time to get good with the irons. It'll make you a better scope shooter. For the scope question, you're likely to get a different answer from everyone who responds. Me personally, I'm kind of digging Vortex right now.

Yea, i have an issue finding where to actually sight, its got so much room of play lol, maybe i need to move my rear sight up a bit or something but my picture is huge and i have the gun stock at max extension. What Vortex do you have?

@Csmith - Which vortex you have?

Yea, i have a 55 inch flatscreen and surround sound in there aswell. Two fold out couches and i just finished the insulation and A/C. its quite the place lol. I call it the doghouse though. Gotta escape the wife sometimes =P

If I may chime in I just received a Vortex PST 1-4x24 with TMQR MOA reticle. I haven't had a chance to get some trigger time behind it yet but I have been impressed so far. Very clear glass with good lighting and illuminated reticle. The finish is fantastic and when mounted in a LaRue SPR mount it's a great setup.

I'll try to get some more information onto the forum as I get some time behind the rifle. The immediate response would be that its a great quality scope at a pretty good price compared to the alternatives.

I saw the PST when i was at Palmetto State, i do like the reticle, but its roughly 500$ and i still need a mount, im hopping for 425$ tops all said and done. I am also eying the SPARC, i doubt ill be shooting past 200 yards ever so i cant decide 1-4x scope or red dot with magnification. the SPARC comes with mount and a 3x attachment for 200ish. the larger vortex red dot is also well priced.

I've got a Viper PST 4-16 for my hunting rifle, my first Vortex. I run an Aimpoint PRO on my AR, my intended use is to mimic (to a degree) my issued rifle. Go here (http://swfa.com/) and click on Riflescopes. They carry most of the major brands and you can compare from there.
