Original SOE Gear Deployable CAT2 Pouch

Tourniquets have been seeing an increased level of attention in recent years. with a variety of manufacturers offering different versions. The use of the tourniquet is being instructed more, and it has proven to be a lifesaver. Because of this, they have become a widely issued and carried means of combat life support. As with anything else that is carried, how to carry it has been addressed through a variety of measures. When a tourniquet is needed, it's needed badly and the clock is against you. You want to be able to get the tourniquet applied in a hurry. That means it needs to be readily available, quick to get into action, yet securely held so that you know it is where it should be.

Some of the simplest measures are to pack the tourniquet in a pocket or inside a larger med pouch. Rubber bands have been used, as has shock cord. They've been Velcroed to other items, PCs, or rifle stocks. While these work in a pinch, John Willis came up with a more secure means of not only keeping the tourniquet handy, but also secure so that when you need it, it's where it should be and you don't have to dig through other items or containers to get to it.

The OSOE Deployable TQ Pouch. Pull tab release is made of red nylon to ID the contents as medical gear.

The Deployable TQ Pouch provides an enclosed pouch that holds either a CAT2 or SOF CAT type tourniquet inside and rapidly pops open to give you access to the tourniquet with a simple pull. The pouch itself is a folding flap design that secures with Velcro and a metal snap.

The flaps open up, allowing the pouch to be spread open. A CAT2 or SOF CAT is placed inside and centered in the pouch. The pouch will hold either of these two TQs, but the CAT2 fits better due to the lack of the turnscrew as found on the SOF CAT. The flaps are closed around the TQ, and then this is folded up on the "hinge" of the flaps so that the hook tape catches the loop pile on the base of the pouch.

With the flaps of the pouch secured to the base, the pull tab and top strap are snapped together, holding the walls of the pouch in place and TQ packed inside. The bright red pull tab quickly identifies the contents as medical items, and a quick pull of the tab pulls the pouch open, spreading the flaps and dropping the TQ into your hand.

The Deployable TQ Pouch is an easy way to keep a TQ on hand and ready to go. Like John's other items, it is constructed of quality materials here in the US.

OSOE TK-4 Self Deploy Pouch

As with the TQ pouch above, John Willis at OSOE developed a pouch that fits the smaller and simpler TK4 models of tourniquet. The idea was the same: make a pouch that would secure the TQ in such a way that it did not interfere with deploying it, and keep it simple.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a391/m24shooter/OSOE%20Bungee%20slings/100_3706.jpg
The TK-4 pouch. Red pull tab is attached to a tape inside that deploys the contents when the tab is pulled.

The TK-4 pouch is a simpler design than the larger TQ deployable pouch. It is basically a simple pouch with a flap opening secured with Velcro. A red pull tab is attached to a pull tape that opens the flap as the tab is pulled. Inside, the TK-4 sits on top of the pull tape and is withdrawn as the pouch is opened.

It has PALS webbing on the back so that it can be mounted to belts, PCs, vests, bags, other pouches or whatever. The PALS webbing also has a vertical pass-through so that a sling or narrow belt can be used to mount the pouch.

Because of the size of the TK4, the pouch might be a little more adaptable than the larger pouch. I've mounted mine on a sling, securing it by looping the attachment point of the sling through the PALS webbing to keep the pouch in place and not sliding for the full length of the sling.

The TK-4 pouch can be used for other items of a similar size as well. Here, primed gauze, a pair of gloves, and roll of duct tape are shown to illustrate what else can be put in the pouch.

OSOE Visor Cover

You may ask why a visor cover would be needed. For me, I had a lot of stuff that I tended to use rather frequently, but that was a hassle to get to. If I kept it out, then it would tend to slide around. I would need something, and I would have to either dig between or under seats to get to it or open up compartments and sometimes move other things around to get to what I needed. Some things that were small would end up cluttered with other small items inside the glove box or console.

John, being an innovative guy, developed the tactical gear maker's solution: an easy to install simple nylon organzier that uses Velcro, elastic, and pockets to let the driver keep all kinds of stuff handy and secured. I decided to give one a try, and I am very glad I did. The cover easily fit my visor and kept all my stuff organized.

Detail of one corner of the cover.

The cover is simply a folding nylon platform that uses detachable Velcro staps to secure the cover to the visors. Depending on the particular arrangement of your vehicle, the cover is folded over and then you simply use the straps to attach it around as needed. If your visors are smaller than the cover, John indicates that the cover can be folded over.

The cover has several slip pockets that can be used to hold maps, Class III paperwork, mail, or what have you. An arrangement of elastic loops of various sizes provide several options for securing items of different sizes. I have chemlights, a gate and garage opener, battery case, knife, extraction tool, pens, multitool, and SOF CAT among other things in mine. The Velcro fields provide areas to secure moto patches or other items as desired.

I've found this to be a very useful item for everyday use.

John also notes that if you drive something along the lines of Prius you should probably upgrade to a more manly means of transport so that the cover will fit your new ride.

Original SOE Micro Wallet

If you're needing a low profile, no-frills means to carry your DL, a few cards, and a little cash John Willis may have just the wallet you're looking for. This simple wallet has three sections. Three slip pockets are on the inside of the wallet, with one on the outside. A Velcro field is also on the outside for an ID or moto patch. This is a great minimalist wallet.

Original SOE ID/Business Card Case

With this offering, OSOE has come out with a way to carry business or ID cards in a simpler version of their micro wallet. If you need a way to keep some business cards or similiar sized items organized and protected, this is a good way to do it. Like the micro wallet, there is a Velcro field on the outside for patches. The inside of the case has two slip pockets, and the halves are secured with a small Velcro closure.

The slip pockets are large enough for several business cards.

I've found that it is a good way of keeping a small signal mirror secure and protected.
