View Full Version : Gun parts in Stainless steel tumbler.
My buddy let me run his NP3 bolt in my Stainless steel media tumbler this weekend. 30 minutes and the thing looked amazing.
Since I tossed it in with a load of brass, the bolt got a little copper washed on the lugs, but Bore Tech cleaned it up. I might try a whole carrier in there. I'm not sure what it'd do to a phosphate finish.... I'm going to drop an old A2 flash hider in there to see if it damages a black finish.
I might get all my bolts NP3'd if I can just toss them into the tumbler. :P

Pics?
Agreed, pics or it didn't happen.
Crap. I didn't think to get pics. I was worried I'd fudged up the bolt, and started Bore Teching it immediately. He left another AR at the house though. I'll run that bolt tonight.
Screw it! I'm going to toss the carrier into the tumbler too!
Just 30 minutes... which isn't enough to even clean brass...

Damn. That is shinny. But Mark, wouldn't it just be easier to come to the dark side and get a piston AR? My LMT looks like the 2nd picture even after 1k rounds. LOL. Just busting on you Mark. That is actually pretty cool.
They still make pistons? ;)
Yeah.. it's not needed. Just had to try it. On some of my ARs, I've simple gone to adding froglube between shoots and leaving them be.

LOL. That was a good one.
Mark, what kind of tumbler do you have?
It's the Thumlers Tumbler you get from http://www.stainlesstumblingmedia.com/.

Mark, do you think tumbling non NP3 coated bolt and carrier would be OK? I don't see why it would make a difference just curious as to your thoughts.
