I am looking to create a single lower for use with multi calibers. I want a .22lr, .223/5.56, possibly a 5.7x28 and a large bore for hunting. I would like some advise on which lower you all would think would be the best top hold up under the different stresses and also which large bore cal. would be recomended and why. I have been tossing around .450 Bushmaster, .458 SOCOM and .50 Beowolf. any oppinions? thanks ...also something in a middle caliber for comp shooting.

Any forged lower will be fine.

Any recomendations? I did figure a forged billet lower would be best but I see so many options of manufactures that I get confused.

A milspec lower are all pretty much the same. Then they do have the all billet ones that look very nice cost double the price but I don't really know if the strength is any difference.

so basiclly i can use my existing bushmaster m4 post ban lower and just get uppers for the cal. that i want. do i have to change the buffer?

Yes on the lowers. As for the buffers you might need to experiment with the different calibers. But I have a 5.56 upper and have used my friends 50 beawolf upper with out changing the buffer in mine and it ran fine.

You are confused, forged and billet are two different types of lowers.

LOL, I guess I am confused. Any discussion on larger calibers?

I'm in the process of building a SBR and I'm also looking for a very good lower receiver to handle multiple calibers (primarily 5.56, 300BLK, 6.8SPC) from various uppers used on this platform.

I've researched and narrowed my choices down to the following:

Noveske Gen 2 flared forged lower:

LMT Defender 2000 forged lower:

I was in the same boat as you. I went with the LMT with factory 2 Stage Trigger. Only thing I would change would be the Cal. mark. I would have preferred a "Multi" lower.

As for the OP, I would get a quality lower such as one of the ones above. Although, I like the LMT or Noveske the best, any would work. If you are looking for a billet lower I would suggest a MEGA or LaRue, though the LaRues are hard to come by at this time. Remember this is something that you will use alot if you are going to be used for multiple uppers. Spend a little extra and get something you are happy with.
