I recently purchased a Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD and while i was scoping it in i noticed a few issues and i wanted to hear some opinions.

So first off, it scratches the shit out of the ammo in the rifle itself from the bolt going over them... and it leaves some nasty stains. i think thats partialy from the fact that this is cheap American Eagle ammo.

:confused::confused::confused::confused:
Also, if i load 4 (max capacity) into the rifle itself, and then press them down to allow for the 5th in the chamber it will not feed the first load from the internal magazine. I have to physically push down and let it come up a few times then it will feed properly the rest of the time. i have only put 20 rounds through the gun so far and im wondering if anyone has heard of this? google isnt helping much tonight.

THIS^^^^ is my main question

Not sure on the mag. My Rem 700 doesn't like to feed the last round in the mag... I may have re-assembled it goofy when I adjusted my trigger pull.

A couple of observations....

Zeroing with that garbage ammo is a waste of time. Spring for some Fed GMM 168s or 175 SMKs. Also... if you have the Xmark trigger, ditch it. It'll work for a while, but when you really want to start stacking holes, it will be a thorn in your side.

And think about skim bedding the action if it isn't already done.

The Mag body might not be positioned correctly in the stock... I can't say that I've seen any of our Rem 700 scratch the brass that badly.

i was getting the scope close enough to make it easy when i got to an actual range, my back yard is not ideal for scoping... alot of slopes and such. I managed to fix the feeding issues, i just bent the spring slightly and moved it back a little farther on the plate and then reinserted it and now it works flawlessly. I have to see if it still scratches shells though. i am going to get some hornady or federal match ammo to get a good zero. Whats the deal with the trigger though? i like mine so far. very crisp and exact. i have not bedded the action yet either as this is my first bolt gun lol. always been auto loading and shotguns. i do have a 30-06 pump... lol

Depends if you have the old trigger or the Xmark. I too was like... "this trigger isn't that bad" when I first got my SPS tactical.... Cuz I was coming off of USGI AR triggers.

The Xmark is Remington's lawyer approved trigger in the wake of that fiasco from idiots messing wtih the old trigger and getting accidental discharges. It's inconsitent, and not very adjustable.

The ONLY factory ammo I'd use is the Federal Gold Medal Match. It's the only ammo I've tried that hangs pretty good with hand loads. That stuff will give my hand loads a run for their money. The only difference is that I can load them for a lot cheaper.

20 rounds through the barrel?

Shoot a few hundred rounds, then see what hatches.

There's nothing wrong with those cases. A few scratches ain't nothin.'

When you resize 'em, they'll be good to go.

The only problem I've ever had with American Eagle cases, is, eventually the primer pockets may become stretched, and will not hold a primer securely. Otherwise, AE cases are good for several reloads.

i can actually run my finger across the cases and get brass or what ever it is staining my fingers lol. I did get it to feed properly though.
