Out this past week on my boat, and one evening we messed around with some tracer rounds I had thru my 5.56 SBR with the SilencerCo brake. Good thing we were in a rain forest area that was still snow covered... note the tracer material ricocheting

Just got the 5.56 flash-comp taper mount for the jailed Recce7 today. Here is with the Griffin blast deflector. I slapped together available components to see how it looked. Waiting on SBR approval. I started laughing when trying the sight lines - two front sights!

Budget was the reason I went this route. So you're very likely correct.

No supressor mount for future though.

Guys, I've been using the SLR Synergy and love how smooth it made my carb-gassed rifle feel. Have any of you tried it, and how does it compare to these other devices for balance of recoil and concussion? My experience was previously limited to the A2-style, and I'd like to know if I'm missing out on something better. I'm tempted by the KX's and the new Hera out the front devices, and am curious if they're worth the bump from $80 to $150+.

I really thought this hybrid device would see broader adoption, but I don't see much of it around here. I did notice that the newest AFABs are cut differently at the top, likely intended to provide a greater downward pressure.

I tried orienting it differently during installation but it only threads on one way and that was how it ligned up with proper torque. To flip it 180 would be way over torqued.

I found some shims from when I had my M1A that worked, I got it turned around. My OCD was going crazy looking at it upside down lol. Probably doesn't make a huge difference, but it's correct now. I will have to retake that shot at some point.
I am sure it makes some difference.

Agreed, I luckily don't have any builds that require a pinned/welded brake. Usually like to torque around 15 to 20 ftlbs for muzzle devices if possible. It would have taken like 70 to get it 180 with the barrel/crush washer combo I had. Was able to use shims similar to peel washers with the crush washer to get it to 20 while correctly oriented.

At least you didn't send it off to be pinned and welded only to get it back about 5° off.

That would be more than just a little annoying. The one and only muzzle device i've had pinned and welded i installed and timed myself before having it sent out to be pinned. I did purchase a complete Daniel Defense rifle that has a pinned flash hider that was about 10 degrees off by my eye. When i called them about it, DD assured me it didn't need to be timed, yet they used a crash washer. I don't know about you, but if it doesn't need to be timed i don't bother with crush washers or shims.

Because there are so few pictures out there of the Griffin Armament Taper Mount Minimalist Flash Hider, I hope these can help someone else decide if this is the flash hider they want.

First is the flash hider on a lightweight 5.56 barrel (16" with 14" SMOS ARMS rail).
Second is the flash hider on a standard 5.56 barrel (18" with 14" Parallax Tactical rail).

I like it. Looks a little goofy on a light weight barrel but good.

I haven't noticed and flash but I've also only shot during the day with this rifle.

Not a problem here...I have a habit of buying heavy profile "match" barrels [BD]

I currently only have one muzzle device for my Recce 5, but I feel like a flash hider would be more suitable on my 16" "Recce" style rifle than this:

Full SBR pics to better compare before and after. I expect it be at least a little less obnoxious than the brake with blast shield. Balance feels noticeably better with 4 oz less on the end.

I had one on the only BCM complete rifle I purchased. IIRC, people even hated it back then. [emoji38]

I wonder if they lost the license to the 51T. I haven't seen any new ones for sale in years. I've got like 2 of them, and find them just fine for their 51T mounting.

The Plan A adapter I bought separately which was like $85ish (can be found on sale or cheaper depending on where you look) plus the cost of the conversion which is going to be about $200. That includes the work on the can, refinishing and return shipment

That EZ Brake looks interesting. The Griffin Taper mounts are great and I like their variety of MDs. They are pretty bad marketers, though, as I didn't even realize they had this and I only discovered their linear comp on accident.

I have a minimalist brake on a ~13" barrel and it's a wee bit loud in that confg.

Dude you nailed it about the advertising. I would probably own some Griffin Cans, but I always forget they even exist. I find some of their stuff pretty cool.... but they're never in the forefront of my thoughts when I'm buying.

Put this on instead of the shims and you'd get the crush washer look but an easier to install and clean looking timing washer.

It's an interesting design, but the Surefire shims are free. Plus I know they, along with the chamfered spacer, keep the muzzle device square for the suppressor.

I'm just impressed with how much shorter SF was able to make something and it still be compatible. I'm guessing there will be more blow back on the barrel, but that's not really a big deal.
