I understand that most of the time, you guys take pictures with the dust cover open to show off the BCG, but in conditions like this... I mean come on! How are we going to win the war on terror when dust covers are left open in this kind of environment? Think of the children!

Simple. Just keeping pushing money at it until the problem goes away.

I'm in the process of applying for a patent for my picatinny rail-mounted wet/dry vac invention for just this type of emergent issue. It also functions as a CPAP machine when the airflow is reversed. [emoji6]

It's a little mix, Flat Od and titanium.

The color is hard to capture as it looks different under light and such, I have done different pics in the build section.

Yeah... they're round. Even the cheap ones.
I wear my distance glasses when shooting. Otherwise I could make a bottle of wine wth the cluster of grapes I see.

Several years ago was discussing budget optics. Turned a Primary Arms objective side down on my desk and took this pic to demonstrate how the dot was actually round despite what the eyes were telling some folks.

Yep. I see an exploding star. As long as I keep the brighten as low as manageable for the environment it's usable. I will say, a friend has a Strikefire and for some reason that dot for me is a crisp perfect circle. Makes me wonder what Vortex did with that optic.

Might be the larger 4moa dot on the SF. Some eyes don't resolve smaller dots well. The difference between a 3moa and 4moa dot for me is significant, and a 5moa dot appears to have very sharp edges to my eyes. Of course this is still with my distances glasses and keeping focus down range.

Yes, it's the UTG riser mount that came from Cabela's packaged with the RMR.
The UTG logo didn't survive the pic edit... but I think the mount will serve it's purpose.

Try sighting your red dot through your rear sight. Not as fast, but it cleans up the bloom.

Stone
19 September 2017, 19:29
Yeah and quit looking at the dot. Your supposed to look at your target and the dot is in the background like a rear sight. Turn it down as much as you can as well. When I run my carbine course during the day I am adjusting the brightness several times when going from shaded areas to bright sunlight. I run T2's and T1's, they only bloom out when the brightness is to high for lighting conditions...

GOST
19 September 2017, 19:52
Everyone's eyes are different and some RDS work better for some than others. About every RDS I've run has bloomed out when I poured the juice to it, and none of them were budget. For me I've had better luck with the smaller dots.

I've quit being as picky with how dots like look. Now I'm just more interested with what my times look like. The RDS I've done the best with is a SRS, and it gets horrible reviews. I'm personally not a fan of a RMR on a rifle. Yeah it's lite, but it's got a very small window. I've turned in better times with a 1x6 than a RMR. I understand a RMR on a pistol where the lite weight may reduce the chance of cyclic problems, but for me on a rifle I'd rather have the bigger window.

Pyzik

Once I start shooting I don't look at it and I don't even notice the bloom unless I need to slow down or when sighting in.

It's a Balor optics mount. It installs in conjuction with the rear sight dovetail and the rear plate. This is a rerun, but here it is off the gun:

The sights themselves are very nice. Solid “clicks”, very high quality fit and feel, easy install. I played with both configurations: regular and angle mount. There weren’t instructions to accompany the configurations/set screws but it was pretty obvious how things went together.

Will be zeroing them tomorrow so I can’t really give more info yet

Griffin sights are fine, but the attachment method with the set screw is a major turnoff.

The traditional “top of rifle” location has one set screw and that’s fine, no issues. The angle mount set up has two set screws and my only issue is that it’s not simply a “mount and tighten” operation; you have to make sure the screws are even so there’s no cant or tilt to the sight.

My only other complaint is a functional one. I use a Griffin SNACH charging handle, and in the angle mount configuration of the rear sight is folded/stowed, then it interferes with the right side ambi lever of the charging handle (would interfere with any, not just the SNACH). This would NOT be an issue for slick sided uppers with no forward assist because you could simply mount it where the FA would be.

Thanks for the information. This is good info to pay attention to. I don't have BIUS right now but soon will. The set I have coming will go on my SBR that only has an Aimpoint on it right now.

I will be putting mine top mount. But that sounds kind of off that they would design BIUS that would have interference like that. Your post got me to go look at their youtube channel. If you look at the video and pause it at the 20 second mark you see how they have theirs stowed.

Even on theirs in the angled set up it looks like your fingers might hit the sight post when stowed. If your scope has different eye relief or is mounted to the rear just one extra notch it will hit for sure. I could see interference depending on the mount, the scope, and other factors.

I have not, but I will be now. Thank you.

Honestly, I think for the money, an older Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 would be the way to go. I've seen them being dumped on various boards for less than $400.

Have only mocked everything up, but I think I've already run into an issue with my imagined DAGGER 22 "Mod 1" setup w/ a T-1. Although at 1x on this scope, I'm not sure it's even necessary. Will need to see how it does on the range with a timer.

I sure hope you start a thread on that scope! A lot of us are eyeballin it...[pop]

Will do. Already noticing some things when I mounted it. This is not a FFP version of the 2.5-10x24 scope, but as long as you understand that, that's not a bad thing.

I was under the impression the Vudu was not daylight bright. Have you found this to be true?

You know what, you bring up a good point, the vudu's daylight brightness does leave a lot to be desired.

I’ve only owned the German made Military Steiner’s so I really have no experience with those. I did play around with a P4Xi 1-4x24 and thought it was a steal for the $$.

Sorry I missed this. I have never used that particular optic but I know a few people who swear by them. Chris Tran did a long term test on one and was not gentle to it. Seems to take the abuse in stride.

I’ve never really understood this kind of a setup in conjunction with a LPV with a 1x on the low end. Can you explain it to me please?

Two is one and one is none I guess. This 1-4 runs great on 1x, like a red dot, but if your on 4x and a threat presents itself at close range, you're not going to be able to switch from 4x-1x quickly even with the throw lever. With this setup, you can just cant the rifle to the left and have a sight picture through the mini red dot.

I just talked to Chris Tran today.

He has 2 of the TXi Steiner optics. The 3-15x50 and the 1-5x24.

Says the glass is super clear and the LED red dot in the center of the reticle is daytime bright. After beating them up, he would be comfortable using them on a work gun.

He's got the MRAD FFP / SCR Mil reticle on his.
