The first batch of rounds that I fired (and was able to recover) out of my PPS-43c has primers that have a puckered area around the firing pin, much like an over-pressure load. The rounds are commercial S&B 85 grain FMJs. Anyone have any ideas where this is coming from?

Looks like an excessive firing pin orifice diameter. Fairly common amongst many different manufacturers and calibers.
I've got an 8040 Beretta Cougar that produces about the same characteristics.
Unless it results in burst primers I wouldn't get too worked up about it.
The gun may have been developed for ammo that had much harder primer cups as a rule ( mil. surp.).
