Hello all. As the title says I am new to ARs. I came across this site while looking for cleaning tips. From my brief time here it looks like a pretty friendly site compared to some of the other AR forums. I have been thinking about getting an AR for a long time and I decided the time was now. I'm not rich so it was important to get the best bang for the buck. I decided to go with PSA since it appears they put out a good product at a good price. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions and I look forward to learning from everyone here.

This is the one I bought when it was on sale for $799.

Let me know if you want me to post up a few pics.

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately it looks like it will be a while before I can actually shoot it. There is an outdoor private range that I am planning on joining and I have to send in the paperwork and payment. It will probably be a couple weeks before all that is finished.

Here are some pics. Let me know if you want to see anything specific.

Looks like a nice rifle. One of the common things we notice from many MFG are loose barrel nuts or over torqued barrel nuts. If you have a vise, it's easy enough to check.

You're right, this is a friendly forum, compared to others....a couple of us just had a discussion about that very thing. Well, you've went and done it now! Next, you'll want accesories, then optics, then another rifle, then another caliber......surrender your wallet to the AR God's, now, supplication is the only way to keep them happy...[:D]

Have fun! Hope you get your range pass soon!

BladeRunner - welcome to the WEVO Family! We are glad to have you over here. Since you are new to the AR, I'm glad that you went with a barebones rifle. Learn everything about the gun you have and learn how to shoot it and manipulate it before you decide on accessories. You'll have a better understanding on where you need to spend your hard earned dollars then.

Nice choice! I nearly picked one of those up a few weeks ago.

Well.... a few days after I received my PSA I bought a M&P15-22. [:D] It's not for me though, its a Christmas present for my son. I found what I thought was a good deal at a pawn shop so I bought it for him.

Luckily my tastes run pretty simple so I don't plan on doing much to my PSA. As of right now the only think I might buy is a magpul handguard with an AFG.

Thanks for the welcome. It did come with a Vortex optic, I just haven't got around to putting it on yet. I may even try it with just the iron sights for a while since I am a beginner with the AR.

This looks like a great site. I am loving the "how to" section. [adore]

A big plus one, take the time to learn your weapon before you get caught up in the inevitable aftermarket storm. Hopefully you don't have many other hobbies, they've just taken a back seat.

welcome to the forum! $799 for that rifle package is a helluva deal.

How old's your son? Mine is 7 ... he's been shooting a CMMG 22LR upper off a bipod or bogpod very well, but I've been pondering one of the S&W's as I believe it may be light enough that he could shoot from sitting without support (or at least constant support). Hate to buy it and be wrong, though.

Hi Flatlander,

My son is a bit older. He is 17. [:)]

It's hard to say if it would be too heavy for him or not. It is lighter than my 5.56, but that long quad rail they have definitely adds to the weight. Maybe you could borrow one for him to try out before buying. Or just buy it and he'll eventually grow into it. [:D]
