Fortis Manufacturing (Fortis) has made a big splash with a small product in their minimalistic Rail Attachment Point (RAP) which is the smallest and lightest weight rail mounted QD sling swivel sockets available.

Fortis was recently kind enough to reveal a prototype of their rail system to me, which will be finalized and in production in a month or shorter time.

The Fortis rail system is truly impressive upon first handling. Despite being fitted with QD sockets, anti-rotation tabs and a full length upper and lower picatinny rail, the prototype is impressively light. Further lightening cuts will be utilized on the final production models, so we can't really say what the final weight is, but it feels as light as a minimalist tube rail handguard system.

The rail is of a mostly one piece design, with a removable rear section which allows for the rigid and complete rail system to clamp to a standard AR15/M16 family barrel nut. Most notably, this rail features the open source VLTOR Keymod system for a majority of the rail's lateral area, allowing for easy customization and drastic reduction in weight and material.

Fortis told me that the pricing is not finalized yet, as they are working out the final details on premium finishing touches such as chamfered rails (which greatly increases comfort), but they are aiming to release these rails at an extremely competitive price point given its many premium features.

I read on ar15news that these will run under $200. I know what gift I'm getting for my dad.

I got to play with this a bit. Excellent design. One piece that clamps onto the standard barrel nut. Interior dimensions remind me of Daniel Defense lite rail but with the versatility of a KAC URX III. Can't wait to pick one up.

It's hard to convey just how slim this rail system is. It is definitely a lot taller than it is wider, which I find to be very ergonomic.

Given the many premium features combined with impressively lightweight, not to mention an aesthetically pleasing design, I'm thinking these rails will be very popular.
