So got to tackling cleaning for the first time and I just have a quick question. Using patches on the bcg to clean up what has been brushed clean and I can't help but get a ton of tiny fibers off the patches all on the bcg. Am I doing something wrong? Will these tiny fibers effect anything? Sorry if this is a stupid/anal question....

No ill effect, just cheap(er) patches. I probably have the same. Shop rags are effective, too.

The small fibers will not effect anything adversely, but if you want to get rid of them, just use a clean brush to get them off, then add your lube.

A trick I learned in the military was to take an old t-shirt ( 100% cotton ) and cut it into the size about the same as the patches for the final wipe down. I always used the leftover portions of the tshirt I used to polish my boots with.
