My first Rifle! sorry old joke. But with all the insanity and price jacking I managed to find a gentleman that actually only wanted what I thought was a reasonable and fair price for what he had. So I bought it.

Excuse my poor attempt at product photography (I usually shoot people with my camera [:D] )

Now for what I bought;
16" middy, LW barrel 1/8 twist.
it's a Stag lower with a Mega upper, ARFCOM ionbonded BCG, BCM Mod 5 charging handle, VLTOR A5 buffer kit with a Magpul MOE stock. DD QD endplate, and has an Ergo grip (not digging the finger grooves, they don't line up with where I wanna hold the rifle so I'll be replacing that soon, kinda like how I don' t like the A2 grip), and a Spikes battle trigger (the NiB coated one), a Samson evo rail (11") and an AAC flash hider (non mount version). two aluminum mags, a blue force gear 2 point sling and bag (which is way too big lol) The two point sling interferes with my holding/manipulation so i traded a friend out and got a single point that doesn't get in the way. Sights should be in tomorrow and hitting the range this weekend to see how she shoots.

Lost me with the Fisher Price title. Are you making reference to the bogus claim that the original M16 was manufactured by Mattel?

I like the setup. I think I need a 16" LW mid. What are your plans for sights/optic? Feel free to put up a larger photo if you wish.

No it's a joke about fisher price's kids toys. Like their old "my first Walkman" old joke with friends. When ever we get our first anything it's a fisher price.

Sights for right now are a set of magpul BUIS. Eventually I want a 1-4x scope of some kind. I'm hoping to shoot some tactical carbine matches and a local club does 2 gun style "zombie" matches. But I need to get used to it first so for now
Just plan to shoot the BUIS.

Congratulations, looks like it should work out well enough for you. Make sure you take it apart and go through it, give it a cleaning, and lube it up before you go shooting.

Yeah I broke it down the night I got it. Guy had cleaned it I did a light check with a couple patches. I'll wipe it down and re lube it before shooting. Loaded a mag and chambered and ejected a round just for functionality. Ran fine so far. Can't wait for Sunday to actually shoot it. I get to compare it side to side with a brand new Ruger 556 that my buddy bought.

So the range we were gonna go to was closed on Sunday, so we went this past Sat. got the BUIS zeroed in using the 16" 300m target found here http://www.ar15.com/mobile/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=556355

Rookie move turned the front sight wrong way at first so I had to do an extra string.

string was an inch across (center of left to center of right) I've still got work to do on ME and the fundamentals. but i was more comfortable than I thought I was gonna be behind the gun. shooting it back to back with the SR556 of my friend was nice. both sweet shooting guns. I'm doubly happy with my purchase now.

If I may, I'd suggest taking a bit to look up the pros and cons of a 50 yard zero vs. 25 yards. I won't tell you one is better than the other because I don't know your intended use, but it'll atleast be food for thought.

I've read up on it. This is supposed to actually be a 300m zero (just shot at 25 due to range size restriction). Target is designed to give a 300m zero when shot at 25yds. Obviously I have yet to confirm the zero at 300m (I THINK the closest 300m range to me is a couple hours away) I honestly decided on this based of the section of Travis Haley's adaptive carbine video. but again, untill I can get to an outdoor range with some longer distances i won't know what works for me. :)

The 25m zero does cross your line of sight at two places, one of which being somewhere near 300m, but the issue is the path of the bullet gets pretty far from your line of sight on the way there. A 50 yard zero will keep the trajectory much closer to your line of sight, so you don't have to hold over (or under) at any distance out to about 220. I don't know about you, but I can't see much farther than 220, so the 50 yard zero works pretty well for almost everything.

The military uses a 25m zero because they happened to have a bunch of 25m ranges when they adopted the M16,not because it's the best range to zero an AR/M16/M4 at.
